Brighton is becoming a no go area for cars. Not the fault of Accor group. Nice room and excellent packed breakfast. Guests should be able to request rooms with lift access at time of booking

Information on website was incorrect and room was underprepared.The reported problems were not addressed as promised.I have written to the Manager to explain my dissatisfaction and have had an apologetic reply.

The staff did their best considering C19 restrictions but things did seem rather regimented on arrival -not very welcoming. Room was satisfactory but crack in washbasin, kettle had a hole in it and was replaced, net curtain coming off curtain rail. The £18 daily parking fee should be mentioned at the outset.

Disappointed that we had to wait over 45 minutes for our room, even though the web site says 3.00 pn and were still charged the same even though we lost an hour. Breakfast was laughable. First day didn't even arrive, in room, phone wasn't working so had to ring main hotel number on my mobile. When it arrived at 9.00 ( 2 hours late) it was laughable. Stale crosssaint, boring muffin, banana which was brown in the middle etc. We went to the meeting place over the road and had a lovely breakfast for 2.50 Inc coffee. Next day we ate what we could as it was pouring and meeting place closed. Coffee machine didn't work,we asked for it to be changed but it wasn't. Very mean with coffee and tea but lots of milk!! Staff fairly indifferent. Still, having said all that, room was lovely and bed deliciously comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. We did upgrade from our 'buy a gift' booking and paid 100 extra.

We stayed in the privilege suite and the room was so beautiful and comfortable, the balcony and giant bed were amazing! The COVID precautions were very well thought out, and being able to pay early in the day and leave the car there for longer than our stay was very appreciated.

Lovely room but in comparison to the approach taken in other hotels it felt not providing a breakfast for the money we paid for two nights was somewhat taking the mick. Equally I always think it’s terrible when hotels charge for their onsite parking. Added to which we were not given the exit code when we checked out so got stuck at the barrier. A shame as it’s a nice hotel

Had to order a lot of things (extra towels, extra drinks) as the facilities in the room were poor. The drinks never came but we were charged for them; there was no apology from the staff when we confronted them about this though the drinks cost was refunded. We were up two flights of stairs and one member of the party is elderly, but there was no offer to help with the suitcases. When we asked for help, the staff member didn't wear gloves. Many of the staff were caught not wearing masks on reception but did put them on when we acknowledged them. Very basic amenities in the room and we were very disappointed that the 'grab and go' breakfast was so poor. A blueberry muffin and a banana for a fiver! Unbelievable. Every other hotel managed breakfasts so unsure why this one couldn't. Have already left a review via booking.com but having read other people's similar reviews since returning I was disappointed to see that the staff member just did copy and paste replies. It really felt through the whole process (and even in reviews) ike the staff couldn't give a toss. Would not stay in the same place again nor would I recommend.

Despite the hotel emailing me three times about the ‘save Covid procedures’ they failed to mention that check in had changed from the advertised 2pm to 4pm. Abrupt staff checked us in at 2pm and then just said “you can collect your key at 4pm”. I asked if we could leave our luggage in a secure place and was told we could as a public space was around the corner ie not secure at all They had a sensible Covid one way system with signs saying to wear masks outside your room. Sadly only a third of guests managed to do it. We asked for a quiet room so they put us towards the back. A party was going on in a room across the hallway until the early hours (not the hotels fault) but in the morning we were woken early as our room was above the collection point for the laundry. I emailed to complain but was just fobbed off

The hotel is situated in an amazing position and has the luxury of a car park . The hotel itself was a let down though . It was grubby and in need of a deep clean in our opinion . We booked 2 rooms and both of them had hairs in the shower . Our room had hair in the toilet and around the sink area . The hotel has an opportunity with its location to be amazing but sadly it lets itself down with cleanliness. Sadly I wouldn’t stay here again .

We enjoyed our stay, the hotel is very handy for all things To do in and around Brighton, Our room at the hotel was comfortable. The staff was very helpful. I really missed a proper breakfast though, the pack up one we was given was not to my liking, I know it is hard to please everyone during the pandemic but I don’t eat sweet things or yogurts. Would definitely stay again.

Great seafront location

We liked the style of the building, with its impressive facade and lobby area, although at night there was no illuminated sign outside with the name of the hotel so we drove past it a couple of times. Our room was very nicely furnished, with thick carpet, large beds and tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was sparkling clean. The only negative was that the room backed onto a central courtyard area, which connected about 50 rooms so you couldn’t open the sliding doors to get air into the room as anyone could have walked in so it would have been a security risk. The room therefore got very hot and stuffy overnight and we couldn’t sleep well u til it was light in the morning and we risked opening the french doors. Also, when we arrived at approx 9.15pm there were no spaces left in the hotel car park, however, we found a place not too far away to park until 0900 the following morning. The hotel recommended an Italian restaurant in The Lanes which a great location but the food at Pinnochio’s was awful. The calamaris were fried to death and sitting in oil with a 1970’s salad on the side, my main was an overcooked dry piece of salmon sitting on its own in the middle of a sea of sauce and my husband’s veal was so thin and overcooked that the sides had curled up. Indigestion from the meal didn’t help sleeping in the stuffy room... The wine was lovely though!

Right by Brighton observation tower but further away from the best restaurants and and city centre. Great location just opposite the the beach. Opposite the hotel. Lovely outdoors cafe for breakfast, coffee, croissants, sitting area. My overall impression is positive since there were few suitable hotels reopening but I booked a single room but it tiny but perfectly clean and functional. I didn't expect that the windows would not open and there was no air con. The fan helped but I couldn't sleep during my holiday. The phone lines were not working so no wake-up call or else and the Broadband is very unstable. Not suitable for business stays. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Overcharged. No breakfast and room poor

Stayed for two nights, upgraded before arrival to privilege room. No breakfast because restaurant closed but hundreds of restaurants open locally. No refund but poor items in a bag. Room was filthy. Mold growing in fridge. Only discovered when placing milk in fridge because we were given coffee items for one day and had to buy own coffee and milk. Charged 50 pounds per night upgrade and looked on many sites and upgrade is 40 for both nights. Will leave a review on TripAdvisor. One of worst stays I have had due to staff and how hotel run. Bed was comfy and bathroom large but I suspect any hotel can achieve that. Will not recommend mercure hotel to any of my friends

enjoyable stay, given Covid restrictions, the Hotel has adapted well. Only two small criticisms; Needs significantly more parking or more detail of where to park more clearly called out on the website. One evening the bar area was very noisy. Otherwise, it was all lovely - great room, lovely balcony and view, room service food was excellent.

Disappointed and mislead

On arrival our room was not ready, but when allocated it was nothing like the room on the web listing. The Classic room on the listing was modern, spacious, had a walk in shower and Illy coffee machine. Our room was small, pokey and had neither the walk in shower or Illy coffee machine. The room was large enough for one person and dated. I had to ask reception for some toilet roll and told the lady on reception that it wasn,t the room on the web page and didn't have the coffee machine. She said it was a Classic room and they don't have coffee machines. I showed her the listing and she just said I will tell my manager because that is wrong. The restaurant was not open and the bar was pretty poor. Apart from the reception area the rest of the hotel was pretty tired. If I had known this beforehand I would not have booked this hotel.
