Building reflected the staff, downtrodden

Customer review rating 1.0/5

J.m.c Business - 18/06/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

My roof wasn't properly cleaned, toilet bin was still full from last guests, which instantly put me at unease. The room was stuffy and warn with a hint of a smell. Wifi was almost none existence, I ended up tethering from my phone. The bar wasn't stocked and understaffed meaning long wait for a drink, the barman was clearly inexperienced when he had to question what a larger shandy was and had no idea of of his way around the bar. Very slow service. Food was dreadful, who manages to mess up a pizza. I thought that was a safe option. Clearly not. I beautiful building that has been left to look warn out. In much need of a revamp and potentially restaffing.

Given the circumstances, we enjoyed our stay - a good place to return to after sightseeing etc. We were not told beforehand that the restaurant was closed and we had to eat in the Bar - food was good but did not enjoy eating at lower tables. Felt sorry for the guy on Reception on the Monday night - he was totally on his own and had to do everything but cook - staff numbers improved thereafter.

Our "privilege" room was in a very poor state, and needed a complete overhaul/refurb. Floor in bathroom is soft/rotten and all the furniture in the room has chipped veneer. Got a shock when there were no proper cups in the room, just paper ones, so we had to go to the restaurant and ask for real ones. Breakfast was prohibitively expensive, with no option of anything other than a full English. I would only have wanted a bowl of cereal, so £11 was too much to ask. One of our keys stopped working before we left.

Good location and very good value

Pleasant stay had to book a room as was visiting family and had no space to accommodate. Checking was fast and painless and no hassle at all.

I really enjoyed my time and thankful for the hospitality of the staff, especially Peter. I was not, though, impressed with the bed, as It felt quite hard for me and the pillows not as soft. Thank you regardless!

Nice location, service very good when needed

All the staff were great, room comfortable. The grounds were used as the weather allowed for us to eat and drink outside. The hotel is located with walking distance of good pubs, restaurants and the heritage area of Saltaire. We were on the site for business and the meeting room was excellent.

Comfy room Hotel could do with a bit of a spruce up but was clean and comfortable.

Good base for exploring Saltaire and the surrounding area.

Pleasant stay, considering the current restrictions. It felt as though the hotel was only partially open. Only one draught beer in the bar and the restaurant was only open for breakfast.

Stayed in the older part of the hotel. Room had single glazed windows which didn't seem to close properly, luckily weather was warm, in winter I imagine it would have been freezing! Room and corridors just felt really tired, need modernising!

good but not as good as expected

Nothing tangible to complain about, but it did not come up to my expectations. I remember the Bankfield as THE place to stay in the area, but it is looking tired and needs a lot of care and attention. Split carpet in dining room, scuffed corners on woodwork, a hot tap that needed two full revolutions to produce hot water. Breakfast very overpriced.

Definitely improving

williambb54 Solo travel - 06/11/2019 TripAdvisor review

I have stayed at this hotel numerous times, I know that some of the facilities are tired, the building is old. That said, on my last visit, I found a real warmth about the hotel which made me feel very welcome.

Thank you for your kind review from your stay with us. It is always nice to have a retuning guest see the hotel in the light we try to portray it, we hopefully make our guest feel warm when they enter into the hotel with our Yorkshire hospitality

19Christine49 Couples - 31/10/2019 TripAdvisor review

We stay at the Bankfield fairly regularly when visiting family. We normally book a basic room (which is perfectly good for a short stay) and would just like to say 'thank you' to the staff for upgrading our room on the occasions when the hotel isn't too busy! Much appreciated!.

Thank you for your review from your stay. It was very pleasant to read your review, I am glad you took the upgrade which was offered to you, we do like to read such nice reviews. We hope to see you soon when you are next in the area for your family visit
