We had little sleep the first night because of a noisy wedding party that didn’t finish until 1230 by which time I was so wide awake I couldn’t sleep. I mentioned on checking out that it would have been nice to have been warned in advance so we could have tried to find a quieter room or buy ear plugs

It was my girlfriends birthday and I asked upon arrival at reception to bring ice bucket and 2 glasses of wine to the room and this request wasn't met which I was very dissapointed about. I arrived for breakfast at 9.45 am sunday and there wasn't much choice left also. One slice of toast was left.

Delightful room, very comfortable bed. Very hot water but would have preferred to have just a shower/wet room option offered on the Web at the room type option.

My family and I in the past couple of months have had a really torrid time, I had booked to stay at your hotel for the night of Tuesday 5th November 2019 as we were attending a funeral at the nearby crematorium the following afternoon as we live in Norfolk and I had my 88 year old mother who is very restricted with her mobility and requiring disabled facilities as well as my husband who was only 3 weeks in from a total knee replacement, who also requires at the moment disabled facilities, I requested 2 disabled rooms. A simple enough request and one I was assured I could have without any problem; except it really was. On arriving, tired and hungry after a four hour drive I single handedly unloaded the car, which in itself was no mean feat, to discover that we in fact only had one disabled room allocated to us, which was a long way away from the second room we had been allocated which was on the 1st floor. To say I was outraged and distressed is an understatement. Both my mum and my husband cannot use an ordinary height toilet or get in and out of the bath. If there had been a fire neither would have been able to vacate the building. We had no choice we had to take the rooms available. Your man Jeff was very apologetic, and he took the brunt of my disgust at the predicament I found ourselves in. I did apologise profusely to him as I knew it was not personally his fault, but his apologies were not going to alter the fact that my poor husband was not going to be able to have his daily ablutions, and my mum was isolated away from us. When I rang to book the hotel I thought I was dealing directly with the hotel, it soon became apparent I wasn’t. The operative had no local knowledge or apparently any idea that, of, the 2 disabled rooms at the hotel one was already booked. I seriously think your booking service needs changing for if my husband had been wheelchair bound I have absolutely no idea what we could have done that evening. As a customer of your service if I had spoken directly to the hotel they would have let me know that you could not have catered for our needs, which would have enabled me to make an informed decision about our course of actions. In addition to the above I felt physically sick, when I pulled back the bottom sheet on my mums bed to see a quilt that was intended for her to sleep on covered in stains. Needless to say I removed that before allowing her to sleep in the bed. In my husbands and my room his quilt cover was torn, a towel had a dried blood stain on it. The towel rail in the bathroom kept falling down. The tiles in the bathroom were dirty and there was only 1 breakfast tea bag for two people.

The hotel is at a reasonable price with most facilities required by most customers, good bar, restaurant and attentive staff. Making our way to our room we were surprised at the strong smell of cleaning fluid and saw that the hotel could be improved with some TLC with a refurbishment looking a little tired, the room was neat but again looked a little tired after obviously much use and overall the hotel appears to cater for the corporate business which many do today. We would use a Mercure hotel again but only for convenience of a one night stop.

We were so cordially greeted by Gary in reception, we thought we’d arrived at a five star. Despite there being a large dinner for charity supporters of MIND with speaker Frank Bruno, our dinner was great. I had Whitebait and Pork Cutlet. And everything was tasty and nicely presented and served. Our room, 20, was large and well equipped and we slept very well on the firm mattress. My wife said breakfast was the best of a week in which we’d stayed in three four star properties!

Hotel restaurant and room cold throughout stay. After walking through a long unlit conservatory, our room had no lights or heating on which was not very welcoming. Overall, for the standard of the hotel, I think it was over priced. Quality of the food was not very good either. Staff welcoming but need more training in terms of customer service. Unfortunately, even though there was 7 of us staying for a birthday celebration, there was no forethought to put together some tables for breakfast and reserve them for our use which resulted in 4 people sitting on a 2 person table (as the only tables for 4 were at the back of the room and inaccessible to a wheelchair) and the other 3 sitting in the nearest 2 person table. For a group booking of 4 rooms plus 9 for dinner more customer service was needed rather than leaving guests to their own devices. I am putting these comments forward in the hope that yr manager will be able to address these issues for other guests. Many thanks.

Poor customer service, booked privilege room but told not available with no apology or explanation. Hotel was full of non paying guests. Children playing in hallways & adults SMOKING in corridors. Rooms dated. Breakfast nice & restaurant staff polite & helpful.

We have stayed a few times now at the Hull Mercure. It is not to far from home but offers a spa experience and the restaurant serves lovely food. The rooms are spacious and well presented clean and tidy. We will be returning.

It wasn’t all bad but the experience for us was ruined by the fact the hotel is swamped with refugees. This made the feel Of the place very unpleasant for families. Hotel staff were very polite and friendly to deal with. Facilities were lacking slightly. My bed gave me a bad back after the first night and only noticed on the day of leaving it was missing a wheel. We got given a small fridge as requested but it was filthy when we opened it and had to clean it out. Breakfast food was good but having to fight through the refugees who have not one ounce of etiquette was rather displeasing.

Food and public areas were good but room very tired, particularly the bathroom. Reception not particularly welcoming and as a future regular visitor to Hull I won't be staying here again

Always stay at the Grange Park when visiting son and family in nearby Cottingham. never had a bad stay. Staff now recognise me and my wife. Room and bed comfortable. Changed breakfast buffet arrangement since last stay. Breakfast still good.
