Booked privilege room as per previous visits but now find this room type has been upgraded to junior suite - I was not notified. I queried on entering and was told this was the situation now. Restaurant service rather slow. Some issues on agreeing final bill. Expect better for a silver member.

We booked a Privilege room but they tried to fob us off with a Classic room. Came up with a story about how the rooms had been reclassified yet that wasn't confirmed by their own website. Blamed it on booking.com despite us booking it through their own website and then miraculously a Privilege room became available. Whole place is a bit tired, e.g. bathroom basin was cracked

We have stayed in many Mercure hotels, particularly in France, but the Grange Hall does not quite reach their standards. It is obviously an old building which has been converted and, although the public areas are quite pleasant, the rooms need some updating, In particular, we felt that the bathroom needed to be completely modernised as everything was mismatched and old-fashioned and there was not enough shelving to put toiletry items etc. Unfortunately, our room looked out on to the roof of the kitchen and also part of the back of the building which seemed to be unused and was very tatty.

As an Accor member I booked my room on line direct, I choose a PRIVILEGE room as described on the web site. When I arrived I was not acknowledged as a member. then the room was not what I had booked. I asked at reception that I booked a Privilege room and didn't think that is what I was given. I was then informed the room have been reassigned and that a Privilege room is now a junior suite?? I was still charged the privilege room price.

We enjoyed our overnight stay. This was a gift from my daughters for me and my husband, unfortunately he passed away before we could enjoy the gift together. I came with a friend. The location of the hotel is excellent and there is more than enough free parking available. It's in very close proximity to every possible shop you can think of so no need to worry if you forget anything before arriving at the hotel. We only had breakfast and it was very good. there's a gym and an indoor swimming pool which I liked. The only downside is that the bathroom could do with an upgrade if possible. We stayed there on one of the week the weather was hot so the room was really warm and a bit uncomfortable to sleep in as there's no air condition or fan and you can only barely open the windows. Other than that, it was a very pleasant stay and we will be happy to visit again in future (Maybe when the weather is a bit cooler)

All I all in was very good, staff, room & breakfast. It was marred by our night time experience. On returning to the hotel at about 11:30 we were unable to access our room with our key card. My husband went down to the reception in order to find someone. He rang the number stated on the desk, nothing he tried several times no response. We eventually found someone after 30 mins. Suffice to say we were not happy about this.

I had to have 4 days' treatment at Castle Hill Hospital and the journey daily from my home in Scarborough would have been too tiring. To stay over and get a taxi to the hospital each day was the best option

Grandchildren loved swimming each day. Family room was spacious, clean and comfortable but had no mirror for drying hair! Hence 8/10. All staff were great but Dane and Linda at breakfast were stars - so helpful and friendly. We will return as we feel we got very good service and value for money.

A bit isolated, but welcoming

During my stay the wind and rain were more or less incessant. The hotel offered a place to get dry, though it was not especially warm during a couple of cold days in August. Although the hotel appears to be close to a major road, there is no problem with noise. Several large supermarkets are within walking distance, but it's quite a distance to a place with a selection of restaurants. The bar was fine, the restaurant good (but with limited choices). Breakfast was served cold in a bag. I did not go for a stroll around the hotel grounds. No doubt the experience would have been very different if the weather had been more pleasant.

Dear Russell Thank you for your review and I am pleased you enjoyed your stay The hotel reopened on the 1st August and our approach has been to open up our services in our gradual way so we can focus on them ensure we are doing so in a safe way. We are now serving breakfast in our restaurant and it is an At Seat concept with the continental selection served from a trolley and the cooked served plated both to guests tables. Our restaurant menu has been reduced but we will soon be extending it so a full offering is available Kind regards David

Lovely grounds just a bit tired

Firstly the hotel is set in lovely grounds and not far from popular places. The hotel is a little tired and the bedrooms need a reburbish. We booked on an offer of new opening due to Covid. The Mercure website promised us two nights bed and breakfast with one night evening meal, we Were also promised, slippers, robes and newspapers. What we got was a bag breakfast and what I would call a snack evening meal. I.e burger or pizza. We never received robes or slippers or newspapers which is what we upgraded to. This was definitely misrepresented by Mercure and we needed up paying more than we would have had we paid for our meals? Once this hotel is back up and running on all cylinders because of its location I would stay again as the staff are very friendly and the bed was very comfortable.

When we reopened the hotel we could have done a better job of communicating the measures we put in place to ensure covid safety and I apologise that we did not get this communication right. We have now been open for six weeks and most of our services are now open, although operating differently to ensure covid safety.
