We stayed for 2 nights which were rearranged dates due to the C19 crisis . We were greeted by a very nice friendly lady upon arrival. Indeed we found all of the staff to be very friendly and polite at the hotel. Our room was large, light and airy with a super king sized bed which was very comfortable. The room and hotel is dated and needs a good refurb though. The mixer tap in our bathroom had two seperate flows, one hot and one cold. We had an evening meal included in our deal for Saturday evening. The choices were limited and I chose a chicken masala. It was like a poorer version of the Wetherspoons masala ( theirs are poor anyway) and my partner had fish and chips. The fish wept water when pressed on it under the batter. Obviously the kitchen uses bulk delivered frozen pre prepared meals which are low quality. To be honest we didn't have high expectations by this time and didn't bother to complain. We weren't asked if everything was OK even though most of the fish was left. However, we did feel sorry for the restaurant staff having to serve up this level of quality and felt that they might be embarrassed . That and all the difficulties they've endured in these difficult times lead us to put it down to experience and didnt let it ruin a nice weekend away. The breakfast was very greasy too and the the small piece ( one piece served up) of bacon was so thin you could almost see through it. The food looked and tasted like it had been sitting on a hot plate for some time. Again, I don't blame the staff but the policy of allowing this standard to exist. We had one drink in the bar on the Saturday evening. Only one as we couldn't afford any more. A bottle of Speckled Hen and a large glass of white wine ( bland white wine) cost £15.20. London prices i'd say. No wonder it was quiet in there. I did manage to see the price list on the wall but its print is so tiny it is very difficult to see. I never understand why bar prices are so high. I'm a license holder myself and feel that its suicidal business sense. To sum up.....lovely staff who are not supported or backed up with an environment or qualitative products that they could and should be proud of.

We had a great stay here, the hotel was really nice and the staff were lovely. We were staying as a stop on our honeymoon roadtrip and the staff really went the extra mile to make us feel special which was so nice of them! I would definitely stay here again, really enjoyed the swimming pool and the room service pizza too.

Main dining was open but no cooked breakfast

The hotel is looking very tired now. A lot of dust in our suite 101 and badly stained carpet. It took a while to sort out my refund and although it had been agreed on 26th August, the lady on reception last Sunday initially knew nothing about it. This is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. We are currently in the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh which is a 5 star hotel but is at least 3 stars higher than the Mercure. I would not recommend any one to stay here until improvements are made.

A bit isolated, but welcoming

During my stay the wind and rain were more or less incessant. The hotel offered a place to get dry, though it was not especially warm during a couple of cold days in August. Although the hotel appears to be close to a major road, there is no problem with noise. Several large supermarkets are within walking distance, but it's quite a distance to a place with a selection of restaurants. The bar was fine, the restaurant good (but with limited choices). Breakfast was served cold in a bag. I did not go for a stroll around the hotel grounds. No doubt the experience would have been very different if the weather had been more pleasant.

We are now serving breakfast in our restaurant and it is an At Seat concept with the continental selection served from a trolley and the cooked served plated both to guests tables. Our restaurant menu has been reduced but we will soon be extending it so a full offering is available Kind regards David

My son and family live in nearby Cottingham so we are regular guests at the Grange Park hotel in Willerby. had an enjoyable stay although atmosphere very different from previous stays. Main difference not having the cooked buffet breakfast that I have always enjoyed. The meal in a bag was adequate but eating it sitting in the room was not the same. Mercure have done a good job in reopening the hotel and my wife and I felt safe there. Staff as usual very polite and helpful.

Hotel was okay, but needs updating, bathroom was poor, basin cracked, toilet seat not matching, no plug for the bath, and no extract with no windows, I asked this to be fixed, but it didn't happen. curtain ripped in the room, window latch missing, Carpet filthy. So no we wouldn't go back again.

Good sized room, comfortable bed, desk a bit small to use for working with a laptop, bathroom needs updating. Restaurant food OK, but range limited due to COVID restrictions. I will be glad when I can get a normal breakfast again. Seems to take a long time to receive email invoice.

Pros: Sleeping comfort was good. Staff support when requested. Cons: Out of date milk for the teas/coffees. Standard of restaurant food not very good and did not comply with the menu. Incorrectly charged and took days to refund, very frustrating. Bar limited (may be due to Covid) Was not informed about requesting room maintenance, overheard the receptionist explaining to another family on our second day. Photographic evidence available of the out of date milk and poor food standards. Unfortunately we would probably not stay here again.
