Nice hotel - the staff were lovely and the cleaners were always immaculate. The pool was a nice added extra, unfortunately we always seemed to be there when classes were on. I think a little guide in the bedrooms would be beneficial but overall it didn’t ruin our experience

Room - Quiet, warm and comfortable. Toilet was not clean, although cleaned properly (of Mercure own accord) for the 2nd night of stay. Food - Bland in regard to evening function. A comparison would be school dinners. Breakfast was ok, but not to my standard. The Mercure caters for the low end of the hotel market and my experience reflects this.

Enjoyed my stay however I’d say a few areas of the hotel are somewhat dated especially the pool area. This could do with some modernisation. I really enjoyed the Christmas party night however I was uncomfortable in several occasions due to the behaviour of some of the people on works parties. A few blokes on several occasions jumping on each other and rolling on the dance floor. One of which was grabbing other blokes forcibly make them dance with him. This happened to me on one occasion and another person from the same group grabbed him by the throat to move him away. Left me feeling uncomfortable. No sign of any staff monitoring the behaviour and/or ready to interact for such incidents. Recommend either staffing security/safety at these events or changing from all inclusive to paid drinks. Safety of guests and staff should always be a priority.

I am surprised by your feedback regarding the event you attended, I was personally on duty along with our food and beverage manager, we both were in the function room throughout the event and did not see or have any reports of such behaviour. If we have been made aware of the issue that you highlight we of course would have acted accordingly. The safety of guests and our team is absolutely paramount. The all inclusive package you mention is managed in such a way to promote responsibility, this is done through the 'rules of the game' that you will have seen on the first drinks ticket and at the bar. Any one that is deemed to have consumed excessive amounts of alcohol is not continually served as is normal practice in the licensed trade. I have stayed a few times now and can say with confidence, this is an excellent run hotel. The staff are consistently brilliant at customer service, Susan on the front desk is staff out, however all of the front desk team are great. The restaurant and bar team are a credit to the hotel. I didn’t catch the names but all were very polite and efficient at their jobs. We have eaten in the restaurant bar and for breakfast, and every service point has been excellent. The bedroom is always clean and well presented, and at this time of year lovely and warm. Hotel is not the newest, all of the above really do make up this. I will be visiting Chester regularly for the next couple of years, and this is definitely my go to Hotel.

I am greeted by the exceptional team at reception who always ensure I have a comfortable stay. Bradley and Sue always go the extra mile to ensure that I have a good stay in the hotel and all my needs are catered for. The team at breakfast are also very friendly and catering.
