Mercure Chester Abbots Well Hotel 4 stars

Visited here, with spouse and another couple.to see family. Staff are very friendly and helpful, however this hotel is dated and feels as though its on its last legs. We all had ordinary rooms which wee basic and smelt of mould and were on the cool side. Trying to turn up radiator was ineffective. Room adequate, but note that the bath is rather high, which could prove difficult if you have mobility problems, shower mediocre. Nice fluffy towels. No biscuits and very small selection of tea and coffee. No spare pillows or blankets, bed on the hard side. Not enough power points, however reception Provided an extension lead which was acceptable. Food Breakfast was not bad, good selection and hot breakfast. Dinner was mediocre, with a 10 percent tip added for good measure We challenged this and got it refunded.

In need of a full revamp. Hotel was cold in the halls and bar area. Classic room "upgraded" to a privilege room.....dated room - poor shower to which i have 2 better at home, radiator needed bleeding to allow it to work. Only one premium lager on all weekend which was Stella, Singh not available. Pool area - glad used on the Friday pm as only a couple of people in, however swimming lessons did take place which are not the best to help you relax. Breakfast was not too bad even with high number of people in the restaurant. Good note is that parking is free. i have stayed at better Mercure (one a Bridgwater is far better)

Not brilliant, changes to room promised before trip not carried out, after long drive we couldn't be bothered to challenge this. Restaurant awful, we gave up on a dessert after sitting at the table for ages without our finished plates being cleared. WiFi kept disappearing.

Absolute disaster of hotel management. Looking forward to a nice relaxing Christmas break but was left devasted with our yet to be Christmas, absolutely ruined by a inexplicable cancellation of the Christmas Day lunch of which we had paid a £75 deposit, total £150, added extra. Prior to booking our 3 night Christmas stay 24, 25, and 26 December, I made the booking after being assured that Christmas Day Lunch was available to hotel and non resident guests. We just wanted a relaxing Christmas Day in a nice hotel with a lovely Christmas Day lunch followed by a relaxing evening in the hotel. Deposits were paid, the Christmas Day lunch menu was sent to us and we were so looking forward to Christmas at this hotel. Fast forward 4 weeks to yesterday when I received a standard blunt email stating that the Christmas Day lunch was now cancelled! The email gave me alternative links to nearby restaurants who would accommodate us both for Christmas Day lunch. We tried them all and not surprisingly all fully booked given it was less than 4 weeks to Christmas. Rang all over Chester and all fully booked. Makes you really wonder that if every restaurant within 2 miles of the Mercure Hotel are fully booked on Christmas Day, why is isn't the Mercure? I was given the excuse by the management of Mercure that they did not have the numbers to justify a lunch service. Every single restaurant nearby has been fully booked for weeks. Again, the Mercure management had not even bothered to check if the restaurants they were recommending were available. The only conclusion I can draw is the hotel is not fit for purpose with a totally inept management with no regard for its clients. Booking now cancelled. Avoid this hotel at costs

Great location by the Park & Ride, nice clean hotel, very friendly and accommodating staff. Breakfast hot fresh & delicious.
