Staff friendly but Plumbing in room a little below par

The Title says it all. Hotel staff were superb. General cleanliness of hotel excellent. BUT:Plumbing in my room was not up to par. Previous occupant must have left toilet in poor state. Hot tap in sink was inadequate and shower unit needed repair

Very disappointing stay

We are regular Mercure customers and fully aware of post pandemic issues. However, a number of areas did not come up to the standard we have previously experienced here. The bathroom radiator didn't work, some bedding was put on inside out and the hair dryer was dirty with hair and dust. On returning to room on the second day, it had not been serviced as promised. Staff said it wasn't done due to staff shortage. This should have been communicated without asking - we had to ask for additional supplies (toilet rolls, tea etc). We had booked a restaurant table, but on arrival found only the bar available (no table reserved) and service was "pub style": tables not laid and cutlery handed over in a paper napkin after order. Food was generally acceptable but far from normal standard. Frankly, we should have sent the very stale and dry cheesecake back, but didn't want to make a fuss as the bar staff were friendly. Breakfast was a bit mixed, better on second day but not great. Check-out staff were very disinterested and really grumpy about sorting the bill as the bar had not deducted the meal allowance of our deal. It won't stop us going back, but the level of service needs addressing.

Disappointed

Start to finish a comedy of errors, staff were great but I'm afraid you can't polish a turd. Really needs to dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century! No Nespresso machine in the room which was advertised, dinner very disappointing, daily fish of the day hadn't been delivered and dish we eventually ordered came with sticky Thai rice instead of horseradish mash and Veg. Breakfast seemed to be 'too much trouble' even at 9.15am when it was supposed to finish at 10am felt like we were putting the staff out. Definitely service without a smile! Bar then shut at 9.45pm. next day room was left unserviced. For a hotel chain which I have experienced worldwide this was nowhere near the standard it should be. Shan't be using again.

A tired looking hotel in need of a facelift

I was only there for one night on business. I arrived late and had to hunt for someone to check me in. The room was pleasant enough and quiet but the heating was on full in the bathroom and couldnt be turned off. Despite being very few people staying, I was given a room next to another couple and the walls were very thin so you can hear practically every word being said! The breakfast was poor and listed as "buffet" but you had to wait about 10 mimutes for eggs to be cooked to order which left your breakfast cold. Staff appeared to be pretty demotivated too. Overall, an "underwhelming" experience I'm afraid.

Tired building, aimless staff

The shower in our room was dirty and also had black mould. The staff at supper were directionless and took no notice of the diners so our simple meal took several hours. The whole building is somewhat shabby and needs a makeover. We will not return. This was our first experience of a Mercure hotel and I hope it is not typical

Black Mould around shower.

Can't fault the Receptionist, nor the bar staff, nor the breakfast. However, the room we were allocated had black mould on the ceiling & tile grouting both in & around the shower. The room we were moved to was slightly better, but not perfect, and my wife still wouldn't use the shower (no doubt put off by the first room). I appreciate that rooms being out of use for so long and (possibly) staff shortages won't have helped, but this really wasn't what we've come to expect in Accor Group hotels.

A great hotel situated in a great location ideal for trips to York, Leeds and even the Dales. We went to the Christmas Market in York. The hotel was ideally located for the A1 and the short drive into York and the Park and Ride, (the best is located at the Outlet Centre) Also great for visiting Harwood House. The food is good and the breakfast is well worth having.

I have stayed many times at this Mercure and its always consistently good. Top marks to the lady on restaurant duty for breakfast on 26th Nov. She was very good. Good sleep which is a perquisite for a business stopover. Nice comfortable bed and curtains that don't let light past the edges :).

Overall, reasonable stay. For me the staff were a let down.Reception staff were bored and disinterested. Breakfast staff the same. Everything seemed hard work. Next time I would like to see staff with some enthusiasm!!!!

Where do I start....

On arrival we take our luggage to the room. We head to the bar for a drink, within 5 minutes the barman has already stated its shi* here and there's no management of the staff, understaffed. 30 people in the restaurant, we had booked for 7pm and when we asked for our table we were told 'Ha don't think so, you'll be lucky'. We ended up eating in the bar, again barman comes over whilst we ate and starts talking! In the room, the shower had mold on the grout. We did mention this to reception. We are busy, the BBC are staying here. Annnnd! They did seem understaffed, no manager around when 3 people were serving food and running the bar on a busy Friday night. Will I stay there again, erm I don't think Mercure is for us.

Ok for overnight stop

Clean, comfortable rooms, good shower, inexpensive. No power point near the bed, which meant you couldn't power your laptop sitting in the bed. Friendly and helpful staff. Bar food ok, but breakfast very poor, food far too long under the heaters, shrivelled and dry. Coffee machine broken, no back up.

Good location for walking distance into local shops and to access free bus to racecourse. As we were attending Wetherby Races we only called in to announce our arrival and have a drink at the bar. Most tables still hadnt been cleared from previous customers. We didnt check in until after 11pm as the racing was earlier than our allowed check in time. We selected a double room but unsuprisingly we got 2 single beds pushed together. Disappointingly this also came with 2 single duvets inside of a double duvet cover which was a nightmare as we found each duvet just fell outwards to the sides leaving us with empty duvet cover in the middle. We were also disgusted to find cobwebs full of spiders in every single corner of the room, dusty surfaces and the shower tray full of tiny fleas. Obviously hadnt been cleaned for a while! Also no trouser press as stated with a double room.

Great staff and meals. Room in very tired condition

This hotel, which we have stayed at several times, good be better. The staff and meals were excellent, but yet again the room was not. We had an accessible room and the shower enclosure was well thought out. When we arrived there was no bathroom soap, shampoo or shower gel and only one set of towels. Sadly, the room was very tired and until the last of our four day stay most of the electric plugs did not work properly. Mercury/Jupiter hotels need to address the room deficiencies.

Dated and not very clean

The bedroom carpet floor was old and dirty, the bathroom floor has holes on the corners and cobwebs. The room overall did not look very clean, we only stayed for one night, but would not recommend sorry.

We stayed here to attend a wedding at Wetherby Methodist Church. The staff at the hotel were very polite, approachable and helpful. The rooms clean, and airy, dinner and breakfast were a treat. Would definitely recommend 👌 👍

A bit tired and in need of a good refurbishment especially the bathroom in my room but OK for a night's stopover. Didn't eat at the hotel for either evening meal or breakfast so unable to comment on that.

My wife and I have stayed at Mercure hotels in many countries, but this was our first visit to Mercure Wetherby. We were much impressed by the hotel. All the staff were helpful and courteous ( and scrupulously honest when a bar man handed me back the £20 note that I had mistakenly given him rather than the £10 that I intended). The hotel is conveniently located for visits to Harrogate (20 mins by car), York (30 mins) and Castle Howard (1 hour). We thoroughly commend this hotel to you.

Good location close to motorway. Check in and out efficient. Room ok but bathroom a bit ‘tired’. Restaurant left a little to be desired, no draught ales and no steaks available(on Saturday night!). Food we did have was good, decent sized portions. All was forgivable due to the service by the excellent waiter Junior, a definite asset to the hotel.

The location is good for the A1 and the dinner menu is fine. However the carpets were very dirty and stained and the breakfast was particularly poor. We had to suffer using a bathroom specifically designed for people in a wheelchair, which I asked to move from, but were told there were no other rooms! Not sure what anyone in a wheelchair would have done, had they been booked in! The reception staff were polite and helpful in the morning.

I used this Mercure Hotel several times in the past and was pleased but this time the chair in the room had stuffing coming out. The shower was difficult to put on .Worst of all the clear screen at Reception was dirty on arrival . The same dirty stains were never removed by morning on check out. these things should be of paramount importance at this time. I have a feeling the management of this hotelhas changed hands.
