I had booked this hotel 5 months in advance, however they decided to email me three days before my reservation, to tell me they could no longer honour it. They offered me no reason other than accepting a long term stay. Having read the reviews it’s clear that it has become a refugee hotel. I’m so disappointed they didn’t give me more notice and barely even offered an apology

I can’t believe you’ve actually asked me to write a review of your hotel when you cancelled my reservation 3 days before my stay. I was left to find alternative accommodation for my disabled father at very short notice which was hard as there are limited rooms available and then you informed me I wouldn’t be refunded for 10 days so effectively had to pay twice. Seriously unimpressed.

I am very sorry we found ourselves in this situation and rest assured we use all feedback to ensure we always strive to get better.

Other than the guy on reception when I checked in who was very helpful, there’s not a lot of positives. The hotel is very tired, although my room had the label on the door indicating it had been cleaned it wasn’t as clean as it should have been. It’s in serious need of refurbishment.

Needs a little attention. Bathroom fan didn’t work and dirty toilet bowl rim. Very noisy residents early morning letting doors slam and talking in corridor. We had a room with an adjoining door and they had the tv in at 7 am and talking loudly.

We stayed here for 10 days during a complicated house move (and covid) and found the staff to be unfaillingly helpful, friendly and attentive. The hotel was clean, rooms large and the pool was the perfect temperature. We also used the office rooms to work in several times and found the broadband to be excellent.

I have stayed at the mercure possibly 15 times and I must say the last two times I have been extremely disappointed. Their new staff is terrible with customer service and I will not be going back. The rooms now resemble university accommodation rooms or b&b’s and have no 4* experience to it what so ever. We checked in and asked for a room request to be changed twice, it was so bad that we left and got a refund.

Hotel was excellently placed for our stay as we were helping our son move in ...Room was clean and tidy, service and cleanliness was top notch too... Bar and restaurant were not overly expensive either .. Would stay again without a worry...

I stay hear approx twice a month & am part of the loyalty program. I am always welcomed by the staff in a professional, friendly welcoming manor. They also know my favourite room and always have it available. The blonde lady in the bar will always go out of her way to help & fabulous management team.

My bedroom was in the hotel wing in which the heating system is apparently old and broken, the hotel tries to provide electric plug in heaters but at the late time that I went to bed they had run out of heaters and had to give me more blankets! I just about got an apology from the reception staff, am still waiting to hear from the manager and expect a full refund.

Loved every aspect of the hotel. Warm greeting easy assess to the room, spacious rooms with a good sized bathroom, breakfast was good although would have liked some more fruit options but other than that everything was lovely

Quite noisy air con or similar kept me awake. Room was a little tired and needed decorating. Strange not to have a door to the bathroom. Sauna was out of order in the pool area. Spa pool was very good. Good location. On the whole it is a good hotel and will be staying here again

Unfortunately my wife has gluten intolerance and was served a sausage that was supposed to be gluten free. However the sausage was not and so my wife had a reaction to it, making her day very bad. The staff need to be trained correctly so it will not happen again

Very hot rooms. Small fan given which is completely unacceptable. Worst room for money paid. Staff were very good but no A/C. Bottle of water at the bar is £4.50. Extortion prices for the simple water bottle in very hot weather.

I appreciate your feedback & apologise for the uncomfortable temperature. We do not currently have the benefit of air conditioning in the hotel bedrooms as temperatures hardly reaches higher than the 30 degrees Celsius normally throughout the UK, but during heatwave we provide fans as a temporary solution to ease discomfort. Please let me know if you should decide to return to the area in the future, when temperatures will have returned to normal, I will be pleased to offer a favourable rate. Regards. Keelan Harris

Our flight was delayed so we showed up at 3.30am. We were helpfully greeted by the night manager and he helped get the big cases to the room. Room was comfortable and unproblematic. Macdonalds is 200yds down the road for those who like their breakfast. Check-out was very friendly and helpful. Thank you Mercure.

Parking issues

You need to stop your parking company issuing parking tickets to guests who have stayed. I stayed on the 25/1/2019 and received a ticket. Thankfully your reception staff have sorted this out. These companies are so keen to get more income they will ticket anyone, they should be outlawed in my opinion. If your car park was full to overflowing I could understand why you use such an outfit, it never is!

great city alternative

As my husband is a platinum member of Accor we have stayed in many Accor member brands, but mainly the Mercure and Novotel. Some are good, some average but none particularly consistent or outstanding when it comes to an all round service. I chose this hotel purely based on cost with the convivence of parking and a quick communicate to the city while still close enough to the MI for a quick getaway at the end of the stay avoiding city centre traffic. Although on initial impressions when you walk in to reception it looks a little tired and in need of a make over the hotel rooms, service and food are excellent. everything clean and tidy, staff extremely attentive and dining that out performs the Novotel menus both in taste, price and variety. Beds are comfy in nice clean rooms all with iron and iron board. I wouldn't normally pick a Mercure after previous experiences of poor service but this one has made me think twice about writing this brand off my list and will definitely be on the list as an alternative to fighting in and out of the city.

i booked a room to stay at the hotel as i saw the review were quite good but unfortunately my stay was not great from the beginning. for one after walking through the corridors to my room i could smell strong cigarettes..and not being a smoker this really upset me ... even more when i stepped in my room and smelt it in there too .and this was a non smoking hotel ???secondly i left for an hour and returned to my room to be adressed with loud music coming from the room next to mine and screaming voices from the same room.i waiting a while but after 20min i decided to call reception to let the know but to my suprise the telephone in the room did not work.i had to then use my personal phone to call the hotel direct where i stressed my issue .they advised i come back to reception to change my room.whilst i walked out i noticed staff knocking on the room next door. one of the staf then turned to me and said its fine they have turmed the noise down now .but i could still here a racket and their phone did not work.i wanted to move rooms end of.the staff member didn't believe me about the phone and went to check himself. aftr being proven right he followed me back to the reception where he became very abrupt and cheeky .. i was becoming to angry with his sarcasm that i almost decided to ask for a refund until another staff noticed i was getting very upset and found us a room.i will not! be staying there again.

Found this hotel very convenient as a stopover location. Had a Privelege room that was very clean and well stocked. Only criticism was a lack of air conditioning in the room with it a little to noisy outside to have a window open.
