Although we enjoyed our stay ,we had a few problems with the room, Bathroom tap was loose and went from side to side which was fixed the next day when we reported it .Very low water pressure in shower which they could not fix. Apart from that we enjoyed our stay ,though I do think the rooms are getting a bit tired carpets old and stained and a brighter colour in the rooms would help.

I would happily come back here again. The hotel staff were friendly, professional and efficient. The rooms I stayed in were clean and well kept. The food menu was quite limited but what I ordered came quickly and was tasty and the bar staff member provided me with great service. The only issue that I had was that I was originally put in a room next to a football pitch and there was a lot of noise coming from there. But when I brought it up with reception, the staff member who dealt with it was very apologetic and did not quibble over it at all. She quite happily moved me to another room and I was much more comfortable.

Very dirty

The room was very dirty with stains all over the carpet and curtains, the bed sheets and towels smelled like mildew and and the room as a whole was dusty which in turn set my allergies and asthma off and has actually led to a sinus infection. The toilet was stained and full of limescale in the bowl and we encountered two damp beetles in our room during our stay as well. I would not stay here again as this hotel was certainly not a four star as advertised, the hotel was also very noisy with doors slamming during all hours of the night which ended up vibrating the walls of the hotel. I am also still awaiting on the remaining money to go back into my card from the room service pre payment.

Lovely staff but rooms in need of serious cash injection and strong smell of smoke

Arrived late with my 15 year old daughter who was playing in the England Girls Golf Tournament. The room we were allocated was miles away & stank of smoke so they moved us closer. Staff were lovely but the room was dirty, smelly and small. Used to think Mercure represented good value but not anymore. NEEDS a CASH INJECTION! Staff were lovely though.

I booked hotel stay via the app for 1 night, £98. Only to get to the hotel to find out it would would have cost me £57. Total rip off and won't be using this service again

Staff - friendly, helpful, professional, kind Hotel - dated, need updating Room - large, comfortable, low pressure shower, needs updating Pool - clean, not busy (probably because Covid!), modern VERY Hot in the room. A fan provided, but only gave a very mild breeze. Not nearly enough to cool us down.

We upgraded from standard, but room was not as good as the standard rooms we had used before. We had to ask for gowns, and no espresso machine as advertised, no wardrobe, curtain rails not shutting properly

Extremely Disappointed

I have stayed with mercure for a total of possibly 8/9 times if not more prior to lockdown. However the last two or three times me and my partner have been the standards of the hotel have been close to 2 star not 4. Our room has about 15/20 flies and spiders all over the curtains / windows and one spider on the bed. The bathroom was disgusting and not clean at all. We asked to move rooms and the front desk lady moved us however we were still very unhappy as the second room was extremely dusty and felt like somebody’s old bedroom. It was so bad we asked to leave the same time we checked in after seeing the second room and requested a refund. The lady at the front desk did not hesitate or even ask why. She just said no problem and done the refund as if this is a regular occurrence. Never again will I stay at this hotel. The mercure has definitely lost a loyal customer!

Given the ongoing situation with Covid-19 this was a room only visit. In my view, the cleanliness of the bedroom and bathroom did not match the claims on the Mercure website stating "We have introduced new elevated cleanliness protocols and provides assurance that these standards are being met in this hotel." The chest of drawers had tee/coffee stains on the rims, suggesting a spillage of sorts. I accordingly disinfected the drawers and removed crumbs from inside them, lining them with kitchen roll before use. The bathroom taps, which lacked any shine, did not appear to have undergone anything other than a basic routine wiping. It did not bother us that there was no room cleaning etc during our three day stay. I am not one given to providing less than complimentary feedback. However, given the extraordinary effort required at this time to even consider staying anywhere other than at home, I do feel let down that Mercure's proud hygiene claims were less than apparent.

The sink in the bathroom did not empty, so in these extra hygienic times, it was not satisfactory, so we had to move to another room, a bit annoying as we came away for a break!! BTW we are still waiting for a credit to be given to us for 50% of one nights stay!! Could do better!!

Good price, so can’t complain too much but have stayed at different Mercure hotels and overall this could have been better. When booking I ordered a cot in the room as I knew we were arriving late. We had to wait for this to be brought up. Overall room size was sufficient but very creaky floorboards! Good breakfast package left outside door though.

I have stayed at the mercure possibly 15 times and I must say the last two times I have been extremely disappointed. Their new staff is terrible with customer service and I will not be going back. The rooms now resemble university accommodation rooms or b&b’s and have no 4* experience to it what so ever. We checked in and asked for a room request to be changed twice, it was so bad that we left and got a refund.

Brilliant greeting from the lady in charge of reception upon my arrival, 26/08/20. Very good indeed and professional! Unfortunately room with mouse droppings. Tried to phone several times to get room service dinner or book restaurant. No answer so went to McDonalds! Really poor here guys. You could have made money if you answered the phone. I could hear people talking outside the window til very late which annoyed me. Perhaps out the back of the adjacent hotel bar? The shower next day turned itself off twice. Not sure why, didnt see a timer so must have been water supply. Wasnt ideal when got to move quickly. Breakfast to go ok, but could give a bit of jam or something with croissant etc Your lady on reception was the best redeeming feature of the experience!

to say I was disappointed its not real ,although it was a special offer, no hot breakfast was served instead we got a bag left on door containing a crossaint, a yoghurt a drink and a piece of fruit and a blueberry muffin (which we didn't like. Theb the room was not cleaned for the whole of our stay, so we had three days of rubbish left in the room. Also there was no bar or restaurant open for our stay. All in all not a very pleasant stay. Not up to your usual standard. I can understand some of the reasons but not all.
