The experience was smooth. This location is well tuned to travelers and even has a baggage storage for a few hours if one has a late flight out. Very friendly staff, centrally located. One could ask for little more.

Though we arrived fairly late, were greeted with a courteous gentleman who proceeded with the check-in efficiently. The room we were assigned (1035) was however seriously lacking with some major issues: - The bathroom as constantly freezing cold, being the only one on the floor which had a direct wall to the outside. In addition it had tiling on the floor, which only added to the sensation of cold. After only a few minutes through each shower, the walls and mirror were completely wet with large drops which would then trickle down and form puddles on the floor. On our second day we even had to ask for three bath mats. - There was close to no ventilation - aside from the heated air vent - so in addition to settling on the walls, the vapours/steam from the bathroom were always depositing on the windows, rendering them blurry and giving the impression of feeling entrapped in a cell. - Our room was situated right next to the lifts, which meant we could feel the vibration and hear the rumble of each time one of the three lifts were going up and down the shafts. - We found it very easy to find and connect to the MERCURE free Wi-Fi, but have found ourselves completely unable to use it, with either exceeding slow speeds (up to 10 minutes for a single Google search) or no access at all ("website unavailable" error). Only through using our roaming plans (at our own cost) were we able to actually access the Internet. - The two double beds were joined to form a queen-size bed, with comfortable bedding and linen, but as opposed to other MERCURE, Novotel, Ibis or other ALL properties, there was no mattress toper to fully join the two double beds. Consequently, the two beds were constantly moving away from each other. - Each side of the bed had individual lighting and even USB A sockets, but the overall bed area lacked standard wall sockets. Our phones are fairly recent and only rely on USB C charging and standard wall socket adapters, but not USB A. We were therefore completely unable to charge our phones without having to set them away from the bed and onto the desk. Upon notifying the management of a couple of the above points, we were pleased to receive a visit from Andrea who showed himself to be extremely understanding of the situation, and immediately offered to accommodate us in a different room. The new room (1217) remedied on a few points: - The bathroom had linoleum floor and was located on the corridor side of the room, which meant it was just as warm as the room with soft and warm flooring. - The room was farther away from the lifts, so we were no longer to hear or feel them when being used. - The Wi-Fi had better coverage through the room (but still had intermittent disconnections). - The bed was a single king size bed. Not as big as the first room, but it was a single piece, so we didn’t have the issue of divergence. The other points may not have been addressed (steam depositing on the windows, no sockets next to bed) but through the care of Andrea, and the remediation of the main issues, we were able to enjoy our stay a lot more after changing rooms. We look forward to considering a stay at Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Centre for a future visit to Manchester.

It would have been a nice stay, in a well located hotel, except the room and breakfast room were extremely cold! The hearing seemed to be pumping out cold air, and the in room plug in heater helped a little but not enough.
