Very poor hotel and experience

After a long drive we arrived to be told that we could not check into our room until 3pm (it was just before 2pm), unless we wanted to pay an additional c£10 fee. Yet another attempt to get more money out of you, but will prevent us using them again. It just leaves a bad taste. This then created a big que of people waiting to check in at 3pm when we returned. The hotel itself it’s very dated particularly the rooms. We ended up having to switch room as the a/c was not working. Note: they were asking people to provide reviews on check in, and receive a few glass of bubbly. This is before people saw the rooms. So I would not trust the rating.

Not a great experience. No acknowledgement of status at check-in and seemed to be confused about pre-authorising card for incidental costs. Our two adjacent rooms had broken ac, different sized beds, and missing toiletries. But the USB charging sockets were excellent. Pre-purchased champagne was not in the rooms, but then neither was there sufficient robes and slippers for all the guests. Unsurprisingly, the restaurant wanted to be paid (as there was no pre-authorisation) but then they called down and agreed for it to be delayed until checkout. Then, to top things off, they decided overnight to try and take payment from my credit card for the dinner (I was on a dinner rate) the prepaid champagne (that was substituted for English sparkling… delicious, but not champagne and also £15 cheaper than I was charged) and the extras that I expected to pay on checkout. On checkout, there was confusion on the dinner rate and that I had prepaid champagne and so I needed to go through an arduous 45 mins resolving the bill. But at least there was a final resolution.

Excellent central Manchester location. Excellent check in and client relations by Becky. Great British breakfast in the mornings! Rooms are clean and good value. WiFi in the hotel could do with improvement but overall a good experience.

Happy with hotel except faulty lamp in room. Didn't report it because only there for one night. All staff friendly, helpful and very polite.
