This hotel needs a total refurb. We originally booked a double room but when we went to the room the bath was scratched and dirty so we were upgraded to an executive room which although more spacious it did not appease our bath concerns. The executive room had not been cleaned with crisps left on the bed, the cups and spoons had crusty residue left on them and the miniatures provided were half used. During the night there was a fire alarm in which we had to evacuate and we could find no information in the room as to where the emergency meeting point was and there was no staff to direct you as to where it is. Eventually we were gathered in the right location and after an hour out in the freezing cold we were allowed back in to climb back up to the 10th floor via the stairs where our key card no longer worked so we had to repeat the journey back to the reception and back to our room again. In the morning we had no hot water and so we were upgraded to a suite which having stayed in suites at other hotel brands this was of poor quality. Again it was more spacious but all very tired with hardly any plugs requiring me to unplug the TV to have a socket to use to charge my phone. As well as constant issues with our key card and lock on the door making access difficult. Although the staff did their best to ease our stay by upgrading us and providing us with 1 complimentary drink this hotel can not justify charging what it does for what it is providing.

It is well located, the staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was good.

We were woken at 2am by the Fire Alarm which had been triggered by a burst hot water pipe. We evacuated from our room on 7th floor and waiting outside the building as instructed for just over an hour. We were then told those on 6th and 7th floor could come into the reception area and a few minutes later taken up to the 3rd floor where tea, coffee and snacks would be served. Tea and coffee arrived with milk following about 10 minutes later. No snacks. The room we waited in was extremely cold and movement to alternate accommodation should have been conducted more efficiently. Staff were obviously doing their best but it did seem to take an inordinate amount of time to organise other rooms we were to be escorted to. We arrived in our reallocated room on 5th floor at 5am. The shower head in this room appeared damaged. We were only aware when we got up at 9am for breakfast that it had been extended to 11.30. We had no running water in our room and therefore moved again after break. Whilst staff appeared to be doing their best, communication could have been better at point of evacuation and when we were allowed back into the building but not back into our rooms. There could have been better attempts to make us more comfortable and relocate us more quickly. What was planned as a relaxed mini-break did not turn out as such.

Fire alarm at 14:30 and unable to find muster point (came out at car park level), Room was cold, and had to change rooms mid-stay as there was no running water in room. This was a widespread probelm and coudl have been notified proactively (i.e. a note through door saying "you may have no water, please check and if so contact reception to change rooms".

Stayed with my daughter for 3 night in Jan. Location is great! The staff were all really helpful & friendly. Can not fault them. But, during our stay we experienced a cold, dated room. Furniture had seen better days & paint peeling badly in the bathroom. Someone, maybe housekeeping, entered our room three times early in the morning, annoying as woke us up. And we experienced two fire alarms within two days. At approximately 1am in the morning, standing in the street in your pjs for an hour plus is a bit chilly. Would I stay again? Probably not. Owners need to update the property ASAP.

Rooms tired, fire alarm on first night due to broken pipe. Emergency escape signage inadequate, no muster sign. Role call as point of muster inadequate, as a offshore worker I found the safety provisions massively inadequate and poorly organized. Second night water shut off to room (i presume to sort leak) no correspondence from hotel, I had to go and ask to be moved rooms. Check out poor I had to tell them that they has miss charged and that they had only taken one night when I checked in. I stay in hotels frequently and this by far was one of the worse trips.

Water leak from the ceiling above and fire alarm and services on site. Had to exit our room 2am and not to return until after 4am.

Staff were all great, except for the restaurant manager telling of the waiter during evening service, in front of all customers. Hotel itself was nice and clean and in a great location but I was dissapointed in the room. The carpet had something stuck to it, the windows had mould round them, there was no wire for the tv aerial, the hairdryer didn't work and the bath looked dirty but it just needed replaced.

Staff were lovely and hardworking but the hotel room was awful, the bath was black, we thought it was dirty but it was that old it was black, the furniture was old and chipped, the walls were stained and the windows filthy. Also it looked like homeless people were stating on our floor which was quite intimidating when we arrived back after an evening out and found a group of them very drunk and loud standing outside the lifts on the 12th floor. Hotel is in a great location though.

The Mercure is ideally situated for a city break by Piccadilly Gardens with some great views of the city and centrally located. Zak who checked me in was very polite, chatty and efficient and the room was very large, warm and.comfortable. Everyone on the breakfast team was superb with an efficient check-in, a very friendly team clearing tables and the chef was effortlessly checking everyone was happy with their food while also ensuring the supply was plentiful. The housekeeping team were also great. The one negative? My key card stopped working every day stopping lift and room access and a trip to check in and my requests to get it sorted seemed to irritate one of the female receptionists more than me which seems to be the only explanation I can think of for her inability to give any eye contact or utter a word of response every time I went to reception with the problem. To coin a phrase, there is always one and apart from her inability to communicate politely, the rest of the team and hotel were fantastic. Worth a visit.

Brilliant! We were allowed to check in early which was great, it was a stay as a birthday present so the receptionist was very kind and gave us a drink voucher which we enjoyed in the lovely bar looking over Piccadilly Gardens. The room was nice apart from some dirt on the net curtains but apart from that very pleased. Only other issue was the tap water wouldn’t run cold during the night so I had to go to reception to report it. Very nice breakfast and polite staff. Definitely would recommend and stay again. Thank you!

Cold room

The room was very cold despite putting the heating on full, maybe a problem with the windows. The rooms are looking tired and in need of a revamp, the location was great but the breakfast wasn't, overdone sausages, cold mushrooms and the apple juice tested off. The staff were friendly but I was glad to only be staying one night.

I was impressed with the photo of the suite on the internet so booked one of those for the first sunday of the new year. The check in was satisfactory, the hotel bar and restaurant were excellent but the room was nowhere near the quality of the one pictured on the internet so we were a little disappointed. I would say the room was clean (ish) but a little outdated. However, even on the 14th floor you could still here trams and people shouting in Piccadilly gardens so don't expect a quiet evening. Overall though it was a nice hotel and pleasantly surprised as I had never considered it before. I think if we had stayed in the room advertised we would definitely go back but in the circumstance I think there are better quality hotels for the same price.

Stayed here as part of our honeymoon and had a horrible stay. We were on the 11th floor which should have had great views. However the outside window was permanently wet, due to condensation, so we could never see out. The inside set of windows didn't close properly so there was always a draft coming in to the room, making it very cold. This wasn't helped by the location of the heater which was in the hallway rather than the room. So the hallway was boiling whilst the rest of the room was freezing. We had robes and a coffee machine included in our room, but no robes in our room when we checked in and no coffee pods. It took 4 visits over 2 days to reception before we got any of these. We tried calling reception using the phone in our room 3 times but nobody answered, however when I went down to reception (immediately after calling) there was always 2 people there. Once we got coffee pods for the machine we then had to empty the used pods as the machine was full. The desk in the room was very small and once tea and coffee items were on there it wasn't big enough to use as an actual desk, although this would have been impossible also as there wasn't a chair by the desk to use. The room itself was incredibly dark and this wasn't helped that one of the bedside lamps made a horrible high pitched noise when turned on, making it uncomfortable to have on. This wasn't helped by housekeeping turning every light on when they came in, even during the middle of the day. On housekeeping, as well as leaving every light on, they also took towels that were on the rail to reuse. This wouldn't have been a major problem if they replaced them but they didn't. Meaning we didn't have a bath mat or hand towel after day 2 of our stay. We also had some dirty plates from the restaurant which weren't taken when housekeeping were in our room. Finally on the room, it generally looked sad and in need of some attention. Both the sofa and bath looked dirty and run down, while the wardrobe is too narrow to hang any clothes in! We purchased a 3 course meal in the restaurant when booking our room, but the best thing about the restaurant is undoubtedly the view over piccadilly gardens. The service was slow and confusing, despite there being only 6 other people in the restaurant. We ordered 2 drinks which took 25 minutes to arrive (after we had reminded staff we had ordered them) and when we got the bill, it was incorrect. Twice. The food itself wasn't filling enough. We ordered extra sides to go with our mains and were both still hungry when we finished our dessert. And then after a shocking experience, a service charge is added to your bill. Breakfast wasn't much better. The pastries were dry and hard, the cooked buffet didn't look very appealing so I ordered some poached eggs from the kitchen. When these came they were raw and still runny when cut into. Luckily the breakfast was included in our room because it definitely isn't worth £11 a head.

Well located but that was the only good point

Where do I start, Problems checking in and was accused of getting the room to cheap so it took 25 mins to sort it out even though I had all booking.com details which was booked 6 months in advance, the room was poor, dirty carpet, all bedroom furniture was chipped and the bathroom had tiles missing etc etc, and breakfast information was shocking, when we entered the dining room we were told £15.95 per person but it said in the lift that it was 2 for 1 on Saturdays but that was only if you booked at reception the night before. The lift went up instead of down and stopped at all 14 floors on the way back down. Not a patch on a Premier Inn, luckily we got a good price but the £280 they wanted for 1 night was ridiculous for what we got. Never again.
