We arrived and our booking wasn’t on the system so we ended up with a room we didn’t want, which was fine. Complimentary drinks given, while eating our meal in the evening we had Random men who we didn’t know and didn’t work at the hotel ask about our meal, strange. Sleep was lovely, breakfast again wasn’t on the system so they tried to turn us away before it was sorted ans again we had paid for breakfast on our booking, and we paid for late check out but as we got back to our room at 12 our keys wouldn’t let us access the lifts or our room, We had to go all the way back to reception. Not ideal. Won’t be staying again.

Apart from an initial incident where I was locked in room toilet at start of my stay for which the staff including Charles were extremely apologetic we enjoyed our stay. We dined at the restaurant with nice view of the city park and breakfast both nights - the team on duty were very friendly and always smiling.

Good location, great staff but hotel looking somewhat tired.

Initially quite annoyed as I booked for my wife and myself but only given towels, tea and coffee for one. One lift out of commission which waits quite long. Staff were very helpful especially in restaurant.

Upgrading to freezing cold Suite

I checked in was immediately upgraded to a suite on 14th floor it wasn't to bad a first But when I returned later it was freezing cold I tried to get the air con to go warm which it wouldn't even when the restaurant manger came up with my pizza he couldn't do anything offered to move me rooms but all the Hassle involved So just had to Sleep in an over cold Suite till I got a Early morning call which I didn't ask for By Someone trying to get into my room at 08.27 but I had the door chain on So I just got up showered complained to reception and left for Home.Getting an upgrade was nice but set the room Temperature to go with the weather outside.Unhappy Guest.

From when I got to the reception to my last day, I felt welcomed. Sam and Dan were efficient and their customer service was fantastic. The car parking is well located. The room was clean as expected, the bed was comfortable.

Cold room and no drinking water

The room was extremely cold even after adjusting the temperature. In the night I was so thirty I wanted to drink water but nothing was available. I had to drink the toilet water, I don't know if it was drinkable. I asked for an extra blanket and bought plenty of water from a nearby Tesco express. I arrived at the hotel around 10:30 pm after a long drive, so little important necessities like water should be provided. The toilet shower was reaching my chest so i had to bent down and take bath. The breakfast service was below par and the overall experience was really horrible. I was there spending our anniversary and it wasn't a great experience.

Disappointed that the gym was closed, this wasn't noted on the website. I understand that the room doesn't get cleaned whilst staying. But thought the hotel was stingy with the t bags and biscuits. 3 night stay, 1 packet of biscuits. Did request more, which were delivered - but should of been more stocked for a 3 night stay. Also no hair dryer, which I thought was standard in rooms.

I stayed at the Mercure on Portland Street, Manchester on 7th June. What a fabulous experience. All the staff were so helpful, polite and friendly. The location was perfect, right in the city centre. Our room was fabulous and we were upgraded to a suite. I would definitely recommend this hotel. 10/10 from me!!

I stayed at the Hotel last week, the first time that I had done so since COVID restrictions had come into force. I always choose this hotel in Manchester because of its excellent location and parking facilities. Great care had been taken to ensure that the hotel was totally compliant with COVID requirements and I felt safe and comfortable during my stay. Obviously, the restaurant was not operational given the context but the breakfast bag delivered precisely at the time ordered was enjoyable and fairly substantial. The Hotel's reception staff were superb - Sam, Wes and Dan all went to great lengths in terms of customercare, printing out documents, giving advice on where to eat etc. And they made me feel welcome in a friendly but professional manner. My room was fantastic too so a very positive experience all round.

The hotel advert picture from the outside looks really welcoming however there is a decline around the Piccadilly area where the hotel is located, too many people sleeping on the side walks the smell of wee drugs was noticeable and police needing to calm disturbances late into night, is not welcoming or good advertisement for a hotel chain like Mercure. Get the council to do something about it the company does pay business rates does it?
