Hotel location perfect for city & shops. Reception team are really friendly and we received a very warm welcome from Cheryl. Also a complimentary glass of fizz. Room warm but we did have heating on all night during our stay. Communal area are very cold. We ate breakfast which was lovely but was spoilt by how cold we were. To the point that your breakfast went cold before you finished. In fairness to them it was an exceptionally bitter cold week in jan. I would return to hotel again but feel they need to sort the heating out as it’s becoming a topic of conversation in lifts and on-line reviews.

This hotel lacks all the basic that you would expect from a 1 Star Hotel, let alone a 4 Star Hotel. Had I not been attending a Conference at the hotel I would have checked out the day I arrived. As previous reviews it was freezing! The heating didn't work in the rooms or conference suite. I slept in a jumper, socks etc and even had to go to the vintage shop nextdoor to buy some warm clothes. The conference room was so cold and we all went back to get coats and scarves etc. In fairness to the hotel the staff tried there best providing extra duvets, and oil heaters in the room but overall it was a terrible experience. The wifi was awful, it completely doesnt work on some floors at all. The only hope you have is being on one of the lower floors but anything from 7 upwards - nothing. For a Conference hotel this was apauling and all the calls and work I had planned to do had to be cancelled and postponed owing the wifi issues. Any hopes of watching a film in the evening - no chance. Lastly dont expect your key to work more than once! I had to go to reception 8 times in one day to get access to my room. The maintainance team tried their best and said there was nothing wrong with the lock. Even they were baffled. The only reason given was 'these keys arent the best, you'll just have to come and get a new one everytime'. Positives - The food was good and the staff kept their cool despite so many issues and complaints. But overall I would not return -

Conference stay - no heating, everything breaks/broken not a 4* and zero investment

This hotel is lacking in investment: 1. No heating or water/reception: The heating and water system is not working properly throughout the hotel (ongoing issues from last year years as other reviews state). My room was freezing when I checked in with cold air blowing out and I naively asked at reception how to work the thermostat (thinking I was using it wrong) - I was told that it would be reported to maintenance and they weren’t there now due to it being past 9pm. I tried to call reception in the morning after a freezing cold night - however there are no phones in the room yet instructions in the room tell you to ring reception for help, which is impossible to do as there is not a number or phone provided! (even checked my check-in documentation I was given and there wasn’t a reception number either). A QR code on another piece of card in the room directs you to a web app with a chat feature, I posted twice asking about heating, and three days later nobody has replied. I called the main hotel multiple times from 8am the next day and got no answer. I did eventually get through after 11am and I was asked ‘hasn’t anybody been to fix it yet’ and ‘wasn’t I offered a heater and an extra duvet’ at check in. I was advised that both of these would be arranged for me. The heater I was given only had three wheels (they clearly get a lot of use) and my duvet never arrived. I asked if I could move rooms and was told I couldn’t (but now understand other people were able to). I went to reception the next evening and asked for a duvet again - I also asked when the heating would be fixed because my room was freezing to which he said ‘we haven’t had any complaints about no heating on your floor’ which was insane because I was at a conference with hundreds of people and the majority had no heating! I waited 30 minutes (when all I wanted to do was go to bed as it was past 10pm!) As there was no way of ringing reception I had to go back down and ask when I could expect it, to which the guy huffed and puffed at having to get me one. (The same person who gaslighted me into thinking that I was the only one with a room heating problem.) 2. Iron: My room iron flashed/sparked and stopped working (I don’t know if it was the iron or the wobbly plug socket in my room), the replacement iron brought had no water spray/steam function on it so wouldn’t iron my cotton shirt, and the third iron didn’t arrive until 30 minutes after I asked and only did arrived when I called again. This made me late for joining my conference because I couldn’t go out with a creased shirt. 3. Cocktails: 2 x £9 Margharitas were so sour we couldn’t drink and we asked for more sugar syrup. Instead we were given a small cup of warm syrup made from hot water and dissolved sugar packets as they were running low. Ten minutes later we were offered a replacement. 4. Room cards: Your room key will stop working if you simply look at it, so be prepared to make multiple trips to reception for it to work. 5. Windows: Single pane glazing meant condensation, cold, breezes and street noise from the tram (was in a city view room) and utter grime and filth on the ledges you can see in other peoples pictures. 6. Room safety lock broken: This is self explanatory - not great as a female solo traveller! (However, someone would be lucky to get in given the key cards barely work.) 7. Ironing board: Collapsed more than once when being used as the mechanism was bent underneath. Ultimately this is solely at the fault of the owners/investors. There is not enough money being spent and a lack of transparency with guests. The entire thing needs to be gutted and / or torn down. I don’t blame the staff because how are they’re expected to work and provide any level of hospitality and customer service when the environment is as dire as I experienced is beyond me. I shared a lift with 6 non-conference guests and none of them had heating or hot water problems, seems like they gave the no heating and no hot water rooms to the 100s of delegates (who paid c£600 for a two night conference) I haven’t even mentioned how cold the conference venue was that they had heaters on hire. Somebody somewhere is creaming money off this hotel and it is the guests and delegates who suffer. I will say that the bed was comfortable, clean bedding, I was lucky to have hot water (some colleagues didn’t) comfortable pillows, there is a large TV, nice selection of biscuits and the vegan cakes/dessert were good - this is the only thing giving them one star. None of these are however anything other than standard expectations for what is apparently a 4* hotel!

The hotel staff are very friendly. Rooms are basic enough. The biggest issue is this hotel is freezing. No heating in rooms or hotel areas. This was not acceptable especially in Jan. I spoke to cleaning staff and they said they are freezing every day working to clean rooms.

I was pleased to be allocated a refurbished room, but I found the WiFi did not work on the 10th floor. I did find, however, that the WiFi did work in the Reception area. One of the receptionists informed me that the hotel was expecting a visit from the WiFi supplier to rectify the issue. Also I found that I was unable to use the standard Accor post stay questionnaire that I received 2 days after my stay because there was no link to click to get into it. Your standard guest review system is completely useless.
