Former opulant Leicester landmark in need of a bit of TLC

Nota Tripadvisor 3.0/5

Directly in the centre of the city this hotel has the potential to be superb, but at the moment it isn't. The staff are extremely friendly but they appeared to be covering each others' roles and the lady on reception didn't offer any of the benefits that are expected as an Accor Gold member although we were upgraded after asking. We had a Privilege room on the third floor. Dirty windows, cracked tiles and sink along with a rusty shower curtain pole. The tea and coffee box was dusty as was the desk. Not a deal breaker but definitely in need of a refurbishment. Bed was comfortable though and the breakfast very good. On site parking also a bonus.

Dear David H Thank you for your feedback. I am pleased to know that you were looked after by our friendly team. We take your comments on board about our room condition and wholeheartedly agree with you about being a Leicester Landmark needing a little love. best wishes

Very poor

A sad, small room, a carpet far past it’s best, the inside of the bedroom door scuffed and seemingly kicked, a bathroom with damaged roof tiles - etc! This hotel seems to have gone seriously downhill since rebranding as mercure.

Great location near city centre, with lots to see and do and near train station - with private parking. Lovely old building, friendly and helpful staff. Didn’t use restaurant facilities in hotel as was with another group who had made other arrangements.

Dear Ann M I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. I will share your feedback with the team.

Beautiful listed building in the city centre.

Want to stay in somewhere classy that isn’t a clone of the usual sterile hotel? Then try the Mercure at Leicester. It’s a listed building with some beautiful features. The staff in reception are warm and welcoming. They remember you from previous visits and can not do enough to help. Good breakfast with efficient friendly staff and clean comfortable rooms.

Rooms very tired

Such a shame that the hotel seems to take very little pride in its hygiene standards. Upon arrival I was shocked at the number of stains on the carpet, there were hairs left in the bath, bobbles and hair grips still on the floor. The net curtains in the bathroom/toilet were ripped. General standards of decor were poor, the place is in serious need of a lick of paint. However the bed was extremely comfortable and I had a very good sleep.

Dear Andy I am glad to hear that you had a good night sleep. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. Please rest assured that we are taking the appropriate measures to address the problem and prevent future occurrence. Kind Regards Anjit
