Horrible rooms in terms of cleanness , flies everywhere no pest control even when i asked for a spray to kill the flies a guy came in and moved me to a different room which was extremely smaller and super dirty

When I arrived at the hotel, even though I had telephoned before hand I was surprised to find out that a charge of £10 would be applied for parking. When I checked in I was not given any information about the dining room opening hours and neither was there any information in the room or common areas so missed breakfast by 10 mins on the following day 9.40am. All other large hotels I have stayed at have served until at least 10am. My room was freezing and the radiator did not work, there was a net curtain missing from the window and the one that was there was ripped and dirty. The toilet took at least 5 mins to refill when flushed, witch was noisy and inconvenient as I have a medical problem.

Hot and sweaty. Understandably, the property is old, however you can provide a clean room, half decent carpet, radiators which can be controlled and a sensible shower all of which are in your control.

The room was cold and there was air leak from the window. The tap water would not drain in the sink. Also, there wasnt any noise from the outside but infact the heating system and water pipes were noisy throughout the night. Very uncomfortable experience

Not good this stay I booked 2 rooms one for my mother in law and my wife and one for myself and my disabled daughter. Their's was ok our power tripped during our first night of stay, I came to the reception desk and made you aware of this and a manager came and tried to sort out but could not so asked us to move rooms which we did. He said he would reduce our bill for that room by 10% due to the inconvenience of me and my daughter having to move rooms. Hence knowing that when we were leaving early on our departure date there was nothing arranged for this discount. Also the bathroom did have no power in my wife's room which you did go and sort out. The sad thing about it all was we booked a last minute getaway due to my wife's sister passing away 3 weeks before and wanted to make a change from the normal Christmas we would have had. So not a good stay and as you can see the standards have dropped their from the last time we came to stay with you. Kind regards Mick R.

After the main reception the whole place felt grimy, the windows were ancient and a struggle to open, the radiator wouldn’t turn off and the whole room needed a deep clean. Barely wanted to touch anything in the bathroom, only felt comfortable enough to have a shower as I had brought flip flops. Absolutely no clue as to how this has a 4 star rating.

The communal areas were beautiful. The food and service great. Rooms small and bathrooms outdated, but this is simply a reflection of the value in pricing. Would have liked a small fridge.

Room fine, Christmas celebrations and temperature challenging

I booked to stay from Saturday 21 December to Monday 23 December when I was visiting my daughter who lives in the city centre as part of the Christmas break. My room was fine except that the radiator in the bathroom was on permanent high and could not be adjusted which made the room very hot overnight. I was also kept awake by cars revving up and sounding their horns in the main street below my window and by people out celebrating until about 3.30am. I mentioned the heating issue to the young woman on reception on Sunday morning (22/12) but when I came back late afternoon it was no better. I phoned reception and a very helpful lady offered to move me to another room - I moved from 304 to 301 a slightly smaller double room overlooking the back. This was absolutely fine, cooler and away from the festivities which helped.

Great location near city centre, with lots to see and do and near train station - with private parking. Lovely old building, friendly and helpful staff. Didn’t use restaurant facilities in hotel as was with another group who had made other arrangements.

Noise and car parking charge

Party if 3 rooms for two night . No sleep because if Christmas party noise . We were told about this on arrival but we were not made aware in advance which is wrong . I was told on arrival that my car parking was covered in the payment I had made because I was a club member and then asked to lay £20 on check out by a receptionist who would not listen. Terrible

Fuming with the fact that the cleaner woke me up at something past nine to clean my room for two reasons. 1, I had attended a late night event at the hotel. 2, I was there for one night so what was the need to clean my room before I had left?!

Service and breakfast very good Room hard to find and no table at side of bed so had to put phone, tea etc on the floor! No snacks at all behind bar But overall good value for money

Found no toilet/shower door on arrival (room 208) so had to change room - not very convenient! Used room coffee on day 1 morning; not replaced for day 2.

The hotel building is lovely and has a pleasant atmosphere this made for enjoyment whilst in the building. Staff were very attentive and friendly/helpful. Breakfast was a bit standard I expected something a little more choice. No heating control in my bathroom because the thermostat had been snapped off fully open , thank god I could open the windows as the heat was most uncomfortable. Bed was a little hard for my liking and I struggled with the pillows although I didn't sleep for too long due to the intense heat.
