The people were so nice! The chef from breakfast was fantastic. The people at the front desk were nice and helpful. The issue is the rooms are awful. The bed is not comfortable. The sheets you feel the grease and grime on them. I could not sleep. You can’t get a temperature right in the room. The bathroom was horrible and not clean. There is nowhere in the bathroom to put toiletries.

We had such a tiny room and were warned that the bed was right up against the wall. There was no other room. This was a treat for my partners 40th birthday so we were quite disappointed

The reception staff were excellent and very welcoming. We had issues during the stay such as the safe not working in the room and no coffee or tea on arrival in the room. Unfortunately the safe wasn’t looked at during our two day stay , despite two reminders to the team but the coffee was easily sorted. On leaving we advised the reception team that there were no mattress protectors in the room and we asked if this was company policy. They said they would bring that to the attention of housekeeping. Overall the stay was excellent and the hotel is brilliant.

I felt disrespected.because we only bought in the wowcher and that was why they gave that room to us? The room they gave to us the TV was not working. We ask the reception why did you gave this room that TV is not working and he said he will find a cable or xtra cable but until late night he didnt return to us and i went down to the reception again and he said we cannot find one and we cannot transfer us to other rooms. That receptionist was not helpful at all. I was expected to much for the 4star hotel but when i saw the room i was not impress.more disapppinted. Its like a 2star hotel only..the bathroom not that good. But the resto foood was very good.

You can’t help but comment on the architecture when you walk into this hotel’s foyer. It has a grand staircase winding its way to the top floor, cornices and period features. However it lacks care and attention. The carpets on all corridors are buckled. I was afraid my elderly mother would trip on them. A carpet layer and a week’s work could easily stretch, refit and make good the crumpled carpet. Keeping the hotel’s character is important but some updating needs to happen for it to be classified as a 4•. The hotel windows, for example, are rickety and the radiators involved a knack to turn them down. A interconnecting room was boarded up with plywood. This hotel has such potential and is truly a building of beauty but it needs thought and attention for its customers to have a “grand experience”. The staff were very attentive and friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good.

We came up for an event being held in the hotel. We received a warm welcome and were very happy with our room. We had a lovely evening and a great meal, and the breakfast the following morning was also lovely.

I paid twice as much as most of my friends for my room, they had amazing suit. rooms on the top floor. Mine smelt of BO, the lights didn’t work, the paint was battered and old, the window didn’t shut and I had 1/3 of a toilet roll and 2 teabags.

Very central. Very pleasant & friendly staff. Good size car park. Breakfast clean (not greasy) & fresh, with unlimited tea, coffee, toast, croissants and fruit. I left behind an iPad, charger & headphones and they very kindly posted it to me same day as checkout

Room was good. Breakfast was okay.... seemed like the kitchen was a little overwhelmed with the number of guests eating breakfast. Never got coffee or tea, hot food plates were empty when we walked into the breakfast area (9.45), caused a build up of guests that then emptied the hot food plates within a couple of minutes. Bar Staff were friendly and polite.

my room was extremely hot and also smelt of curry / cooking. there was no AC and the room was so hot. The bed was extrembley hard and uncomfortable. The conference room we had been giving had parts of the ceiling looking like it was about to collapse and there was building works going on that was so loud we had to delay our training. When i had arrived i was told that my room couldnt be added to the company invoice as per instructions from the person that made the booking. However, I was the person that made my room booking? I didnt bother arguind and paid this upfront. Upon leaving i emailed the info email address to ask for an invoice to be sent to myself so i could claim back my expenses. This was sent on the 6th February and I am still yet to receive this.

We really enjoyed our stay and the Grand and it's location was perfect for us as we were staying for our daughter's graduation from DeMontfort University. The only disappointing thing is that the room we stayed in definitely needed an update. The furniture was dated, the bed moved away from the headboard and the bathroom, although spotlessly clean, was a bit frayed in places. We ate in Marco's Italian which was very good, food tasty and brilliant service, breakfast was an equaly good experience.

A sad, small room, a carpet far past it’s best, the inside of the bedroom door scuffed and seemingly kicked, a bathroom with damaged roof tiles - etc! This hotel seems to have gone seriously downhill since rebranding as mercure.

Parking charge for residents? Not ok. Wasn't mentioned on booking. 'Privelege' room, nothing special about it. dated poorly furnished. Smell of sewage throughout the establishment. Varied in intensity but quite nasty. Reception staff disinterested and unhelpful.

Unwelcoming reception staff. Radiator in room (405) located under wide shelf and behind chest of drawers. Windows of room absolutely filthy both inside and out. Toilet difficult to flush but we did not report it as we got it to work reasonably well. Staff in the restaurant for breakfast session were excellent, attentive and friendly.
