We decided to book a short break here and are so glad we did from the moment we arrived all the staff were helpful and couldn't do enough the food was nice and and the stay represented good value the hotel is also dog friendly with beautiful grounds so fab for our second baby with any hotel there will always be something that could be improved but with a warm welcome and great hosts was thoroughly enjoyable thanks guys

We are platinum accor and had booked a privilege room and got upgraded to the superior room. Check in was quick and professional. Nicely decorated room, clean, with a comfortable bed and plenty of space. Looks just like the picture on the website. Bit weird pillows were branded IHG though We stayed 2 nights - very very hot on the first night although there was a fan it didn’t do much use. (There is no aircon but we knew this when we booked) One of the windows was child locked so couldn’t push it out to its maximum and unfortunately there was a heated towel rail in the bathroom that we couldn’t turn off. This turned the bathroom into a sauna! Breakfast was very good and hot on the first morning, it’s self service buffet style. On the first day we were greeted on arrival by a pleasant happy friendly lady and her cheerful supervisor was also very visible and checked on our food. 5/5. The following morning we obviously slipped into a parallel breakfast universe. 11 guests all arrived for breakfast at same time. No staff visible, a lot of empty food trays and lukewarm breakfast. 3 out of 5. Another guest went to find someone who refilled everything and left. Plenty of parking. With a courtyard area to sit outside. No lifts and some steps to rooms. So beware if you have walking difficulties or pack loads (like my husband). Beautiful parkland surrounded the hotel. 1 mile down the road is a pub, probably not safe to walk to, particularly in dark as no pavement. We had a nice checkout too by Frankie.

Nice location & setting, but a bit over-priced & short staffed. Nice old building with decent modern extensions for bar & dining areas. Rear extensions for hotel rooms decor very basic in circulation spaces. Rooms were fine though. Stayed 2 nights. Breakfast quality could have been better, felt it was short staffed but staff doing their best. Decor a bit tired in places. Eg seating in breakfast room- very worn coverings, should be replaced.

Great grounds and breakfast good BUT that's it! Very, very tired property. Really needs a refurb. Room smelt awful (dirty clothes?), loo handle broken and grubby sink, 4 big hairs in our bathroom (not ours - see pic), disgusting tatty chairs in breakfast room, lots of wasps in bar area, no air con in room, noisey fan outside our room which went ask through night (203). Much of that could have been OK if service was OK but not impressed there either with the 4 staff we engaged with. Went to speak to guy on reception in morning but he was so not interested at all. Girl in bar heard moans re wasps and said 'I've told my manager'. Very disconnected. Normally Mercure good but not this one! p.s if you respond Mercure, please don't give another 'we are committed to' as you clearly aren't. Mercure need o invest here quick!

The overall standard of the rooms was poor. All furnishings and fittings were in a tired state. The shower over the bath in our room wasn't fit for purpose. It was an old, faulty mixer tap mechanism. It should have been a thermostatic valve shower. Consequently it was almost impossible to maintain a steady temperature and much water wasted trying to establish a suitable temperature. Fortunately we had adjoining rooms for our children and so used their shower on the 2nd night. That said, it was a disabled shower unit so felt more like a care home than a holiday hotel. Disappointing.
