The rooms look a bit dated and could do with an uplift, the bathroom was very 70ish. I was upgraded to a family room, which was not ideal for a business traveller. No USB plugs and no plugs near the bed to charge the phone. Poor literature in the room to understand what the hotel had to offer. Signage within the hotel is poor, sometimes I couldn't find my way back to reception. At mealtimes, it is assumed you know where to go and what the process is. I asked a staff member, who said to sit in this room, once sat down was told to go to another room which was full by another staff member. So with this, I left the hotel and visited a local restaurant and eat there.

Overall a comfortable stay

Gavin at the Reception welcomed my wife and I warmly. The room was clean, bathroom clean and bed comfortable. The staff in the restaurant were polite and attentive when we has dinner and breakfast. It was a very pleasant weekend. We enjoyed the food which was very well presented.

Tim D TripAdvisor review

One or two points made this visit (we have been to this hotel many times) only average this time. Down points were: the room was over the front door meaning some late-night noise. It did not seem to have been vacuumed in part, if at all, because several items on the floor were present throughout our stay. The bathroom also had items on the floor and the glasses (which had seemingly replaced hygenic plastic water beakers) were not wholly clean. The good points were Reception, also the Restaurant but the latter was totally spolit on the second morning when the number of guests on a coach trip nearly overwhelmed the staff in spite of their valiant efforts. Whilst we understood the financial benefits to the hotel in having a coach party to stay, their arrival at breakfast led to very cramped and potentially dangerous overcrowding situation in the room. We have stayed in hotels where there were coach parties but these have all had separate restaurant facilities for those parties which avoided any feelings on the part of other guests that they were getting a less than average service in spite of the efforts of the staff.

Spent a couple of nights at this lovely hotel in beautiful rural setting. Room was good and staff charming, friendly and helpful. Food was of a high standard. We travelled for the Malvern show. Wil definitely stay again. Lots of great places for visiting and walking nearby.

Overnight stay to go to the RHS Malvern flower show. Friendly staff, good food, no lift was an issue. Big room but the missing items were an annoyance - no water bottles or hairdryer. We had booked 2 rooms and the other room had these items, so we shared.

Perfect setting, so comfortable and welcoming.

We have stayed with you twice now, and already have our third stay booked for in a few weeks. We feel so comfortable and feel so well looked after, which is just what we need after a long year of illness. We will definitely be booking again and hope for the sun to shine so that we may enjoy the grounds and the peace and quiet. All our needs have been catered for each time we have stayed and we are so thankful for that. Staff all friendly and helpful, its a 10 out of 10 from us.

Disappointing for a 4*

Started on wrong foot with reservation not recorded on hotel system. Toilet did not flush properly; toiletries not replaced regularly and bed not properly made each day. Confetti used during wedding on Wednesday still on corridor floors on Friday. Room keys twice deactivated and requiring reset. Egg shell in special order omelette. Quite a shame because there were a few lovely staff.

The hotel is very beautiful and well located but the room that we were allocated was really small with a big tree just outside the window blocking any view. As it was April, I was not expecting the room to be this hot but it was boiling at night time and I could hardly sleep. We were told that it’s a double bed but it was basically two twin beds joined together which was very uncomfortable to sleep on. We had pur 7 month old with us which didn’t help it either with the uncomfortable bed and hot room with. I view outside to entertain the baby. The hotel is very nice but be careful with which room they allocate to you. We booked on short notice hence that could be the reason that we were thrown into this kind of room.

Presentation of the hotel was outstanding - The staff in the main very friendly - look out for Steve the Barman and Nathan front office both a credit to the hotel. Room was mediocre with a very dull view - however the cleanliness and facilities met our expectation. Beautiful grounds - As this is a popular wedding venue - might not be quite so tranquil - Good grounds to explore especially down by the river. Restaurant (Dinner) was disappointing in every aspect, not so friendly, very poor selection of choice, uninspiring - food quality very poor and presentation lacked imagination and was served without any real interest by the staff - Cautionary note to diners -If you order soup at £6.00 you don't get bread - when I asked the Operations Manager for bread, she abruptly informed this was an extra side order, This then came out as mixed bread with olive oil and balsamic for which I was charge £4.00 (£10 for soup)? get real - Breakfast was alright - latest time for service is 9am far too early - we skipped breakfast the second day. So great hotel - good value - but could certainly do with a review of the catering arrangements - We will stay again but unless obvious catering improvements would dine else where.

This is an amazing old building with a lot of lovely features. The staff were friendly & helpful especially Nathan & blonde lady on reception. Room was small with huge window sill taking up too much space. Tired furniture & bathroom. Clean enough but did spot toe nail clippings! No fridge cheap toiletries & tea etc not refilled .pillows were the worst I have experienced!

disapointed

francoisboulin Business - TripAdvisor review

disapointed that on my previous trip to U K, staying at this hotel, they did not found my ACCOR Silver card in their system and created a new card for which I had to make lot of action to cancel. Morever, I did not get the advantage of the ACCOR point on my silver card when I aked ACCOr to merge both cards into the silver one!

Thank you for your feedback I am sorry that we were unable to find your Card on the system. We have had a new front office system installed which is causing a few problems. If you could drop me an email with your sliver card number I will ensure that the points are on this card and update your profile with the correct card number gavin.jones@mercuregloucester.co.uk.
