Firstly, I added chocolates to be in my room when I arrived and they weren’t there, had to call and ask for them as they “forgot” got them on my last day after asking again. On check out charged for a bottle of wine when I had a glass and had to ask why the bill was high before noticing and it was charged. Was told a couple of drinks would be removed from the bill for the mix up with the chocolates and don’t think they were given the price and didn’t receive an itemised bill. Too many issues for a 3 night stay.

We enjoyed staying in a very quirky "room" - actually three rooms on different floors. The view from the top sitting area was amazing. The only problem was that everywhere was boiling! The bathroom was stifling and the fan had been turned off "due to Covid". This makes no sense, as it is an extractor fan on an outside wall and used to ventilate the room, not to recirculate air. Both dinner and breakfast were good and service fine. We loved the location and grounds of this hotel, very quiet, despite its proximity to the motorway - there is a village between the hotel and road, so no traffic noise.

We had a very relaxing time. Unfortunately we had problems within the restaurant, due to staff shortages due to the problems within the hospitality sector. However these were overcome and we will be returning again as soon as we can. Thank you

We came for a wedding on Sunday evening and we’re allocated room 320, the room itself was beautiful, clean, and spacious however we felt like somebody had turned on a radiator and there was no aircon, we opened a window and found a fan but had to sleep with the fan right next to the bed in order to breathe.

We enjoyed our two night stay at the hotel. The location is very attractive, the room was very good and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We had a dog with us and hotel arrangements made this very easy. The hotel was very quiet even though there was a wedding taking place on the first day.

Staff/hospitality was great (very friendly) - they couldn’t do enough and were so accommodating. I am dairy intolerant and the oat milk availability at breakfast was a welcome addition. Breakfast was not as extensive an offering as I’d have like to have seen, and the only gluten free option I could see was a pre-packed muffin, but the quality of the food was good and I’ve been to far worse. The only negative I’d say is that the location of my room, in the attic (no lift) and with a very small window and no air-con, made it so hot it was unbearable and led to a sleepless night. There was a small desk fan in the room but this did little to cool things down, and the bathroom felt like a Finnish sauna. It was disappointing as the standard of the room was really lovely

I would like to make a special mention about 2 members of staff in particular. Firstly Ray, he was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the property and super friendly and helpful. Secondly, Jenny who we never saw without a smile on her face and who worked tirelessly keeping ourselves and all the other guests happy with food and drinks. She did amazingly well in the extreme heat. The only slight downsides were the unpleasant smell from either the lake or a drain, no air conditioning in the rooms and the grouting in the bathrooms could do with renewing. These issues are the only reason I have not scored my experience as a 10

We had a wonderful night after a busy & long day. The staff were so welcoming and helpful that it really made the difference. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. I really enjoyed the pizza for dinner and breakfast was good.

A hotel that thinks Covid is over!

Booked this as a short break and happened to coincide with the first week after "Freedom Day". Was very concerned that the majority of staff were not wearing masks, the breakfast buffet was back and there was a general approach of "laissez faire" even though it was necessary to book times for dinner and breakfast. Appreciate mask wearing is now optional but other restaurants etc in the area were all still being suitably cautious. Also worth noting 1) the age of the building as a result of which there is no air conditioning - was unfortunate that we were there on a particularly hot week; 2) the privelege package benefit is questionable - no mini-bar so free soft drinks limited to a Nespresso machine and a couple of bottles of water!; 3) general state of disrepair - spiders' webs on windows and a layer of grime - all very dusty so not appealing when you need to open windows for ventilation. Restaurant very average for a hotel purporting to be a 4 star! In retrospect should have gone to the alternative of the MGallery in Cheltenham Staff doing their best to cope and very friendly - especially the receptionist - but not enough!

This was my second visit to the Bowden Hall, during this current lockdown period, the service was again excellent. The Reception Team are always welcoming and enthusiastic, after a long day and late in the evening, it is appreciated! They take a real pride in recognising the arriving guests, particulary regular Accor Group guests. I will be back!

Enjoyed a really relaxing stay at Mecure Gloucester Bowden Hall . Staff were very helpful and hotel was well laid out to deal with the current situation. The room was well equipped for the use of electronic equipment such as laptops ,tablets etc. With generous socket provision. Very comfortable and well lit room.

We have stayed at this hotel twice previously and loved it. The grounds are very pretty and the views from the rooms remarkable. The receptionist asked if we'd stayed before, welcomed us back, but then we were given a room with a view of a fire escape, next to an enormous and noisy air conditioning unit. I wondered whether 'loyal' customers are now treated to worse rooms than new customers? That said, we felt very safe and all of the Covid protocol was being followed.
