On arrival we felt the hotel was nice albeit a bit tired looking. This extended to the interior too. We were impressed by the level of covid 19 protocols and cleaning in place during our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was mostly good. We didn't particularly enjoy Tunbridge wells but had a pleasant stay.

We only stayed here no meals. The hotel looks like it could do with a refurbishment but the staff were efficient and friendly. We did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on food. The rooms are an average size but bathroom is particularly in need of an upgrade.

Reception staff were welcoming and helpful, as were the staff at dinner and breakfast. The swimming pool was lovely and warm. A few points which spoiled our stay a little bit ... Let guests know if there are swimming lessons when they book a time. We had one lovely, quiet swim and one amidst lots of noise and parents viewing which made us feel uncomfortable. Restaurant and bar area were really cold. We put this down to needing to keep the areas ventilated, but this and the fact that there weren't many guests around meant it lacked atmosphere. There was a reduced menu in the restaurant which was fine, but the quality was only ok - not what we were expecting for the price charged. Most guests we encountered were not wearing face coverings although signage was clear that they should. I appreciate that this is tricky and it shouldn't be up to hotel staff to 'police' this, but maybe a polite reminder at check in would be useful? One last point - we had booked on a 2 night B&B deal through red letter days or similar and had been allocated a 'studio' room which was comfortable but very basic - with the hotel so quiet and certain elements not up to usual standard, an upgrade would have cheered us up!

Found hotel in generally a poor state, our 4 poster bed was so old and terribly noisy We did not sleep all night . Fire alarm went off at 1 am We were not told it was a false alarm so we’re very disturbed . Tried calling reception several times - no answer. Fire alarm went off again at 8 am . Still no contact Walked to reception to be told again was false alarm No sleep at all

Comfortable clean room. Very happy with the room and bathroom although I could have done without the external traffic noise. While I understand the need to protect against Covid 19, I would have preferred mugs and teaspoons etc. Using disposable items just adds to the pollution dilemma. Mercure in Shrewsbury where I stayed recently still use normal crockery and cutlery.

Receptionist was friendly. Room was large. Bathroom ensuite was clean. Restaurant staff hit and miss. Spa limited no Jacuzzi but pool was heated. Random fire alarms at 1am in the morning. Egg shell in the breakfast. Afternoon tea was nice.

Myself and my partner came away for what was meant to be a small break from our young children. 2.5 year and 5 month year old it was the first time we had been away in a very long time and meant to allow us to get a very rare full nights sleep However the exact opposite happened we were woke up multiple times by a piecing fire alarm It was so disappointing and a complete waste of the pressure’s time we have

Upon arrival we were welcomed by staff. We were told our room was ‘just behind reception and up the stairs’ unfortunately, it was down the stairs and then up the stairs, without taking too much notice of the signs we ended up going down the wrong corridor Struggling with our luggage. After finding our room, we felt the decor to be a little dated. We felt that after staying just after lockdown that this could have been a prime time for the hotel to perform some general decoration. The bedding didn’t fit the whole bed and therefore the mattress was visible from the bottom of the bed. The food in the restaurant was good. My partner is celiac and they catered for her really well. The second night is where things started to take a turn. The fire alarm was activated at 1am. The alarm sounded for a couple of minutes. This obviously woke us and made us panic to get dressed and exit our room. Just after leaving our room the alarm stopped. We headed to reception to find out what we should do. Upon waking to reception, we found a very prominent smell of weed making its was through the entire hotel. Staff at reception turn to us and said ‘Can we help you?’ To which the reply was ‘is everything okay do we need to evacuate?’ The member of staff said ‘no we think someone was smoking in their room, you can go back.’ This left us feeling unsafe and in likely to be able to sleep. As we had to check out by 11am we decided to just get our belongings and leave the hotel. We collected our things and at around 2am we headed back to reception and said due to the incidents we wanted to check out, the receptionist said ‘Just pop your key here. Hope you have a lovely evening’ which I felt was extremely inappropriate. There wasn’t a single apology for the events that took place. Overall, we didn’t not enjoy the break we were hoping for and will not be staying again.

was provided with a joining room. however having had a negative experience previously I asked to be moved and this was done without any hassle. Room was nice. Bathroom probably up for refresh but apart from that all good.

A pleasant stay for one night in August. The staff here are the highlight for us, really friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. The room felt dated and not to the level of the other Mecure hotels we’ve stayed in. The bed was incredibly comfortable and we slept really well. What would help is that when you check in the reception ask if you would like toiletries rather than you have to request.... tough to do when about to jump in the shower... Communal areas were really clean and good COVID protection in place. Breakfast was excellent, really well handled, food was plentiful and quality was very good. Plenty of parking and really close to the town which was ideal. All in all an excellent stay marked down for the price. £172 for the night, for the quality of the room felt too much for us. Would love to stay again but not at the price, would certainly need to come down to around £100/120 to feel as though it was value for money.

had a good time although breakfast could have been better it wasn't very hot and the lady who seemed to be in charge of the restaurant on our last morning 30th August was very rude however the rest of the staff were excellent

We enjoyed our 6 night stay during August. Staff were friendly and the hotel is well located with ample parking. However, although the room was clean, it needed refurbishment (especially the bathroom which has loose floor tiles and needs upgrading to a power shower). We used the pool which has a nice layout but again needs work. I have stayed in other Mercure hotels and this was well below par. Praise has to be given to the staff who are really helpful and contributed to us having a good stay.

A lovely indoor pool; we had a very enjoyable swim, water was really warm. The room was very comfortable & clean and the service within the hotel was of the highest standard. We were however disappointed to learn on our arrival that the restaurant was closed for breakfast and we were limited to a cold breakfast in a bag left outside our room. Covid-19 was the reason given that we accepted at the time however on reflection later we felt as the restaurant was open in the evening for dinner it could have been open to provide a cooked breakfast that we expected when we booked. We feel when we booked we should of been advised that breakfast would be provided in a paper bag rather than being cooked in the restaurant.

The room was nice, apart from the fact the bathroom door did not close at all in 110. No toiletries, one tiny bar of soap for 2, not sure what not having shampoo and conditioner in he room has to with covid??? more to do with saving money. On arrival was told had to book a slot for breakfast, by the time we got there most of the times gone, same for the swimming pool. If this had been communicated via the email that you get sent for confirmation of booking etc least you could have called up in advance and had more choice of time slots. We asked for extra milk at reception as had one 2 milks each they are tiny, and was told, well are you going to use them as otherwise they get thrown away.... err yes that is why we are asking. Again we asked with regards to restaurants, for an evening meal at reception, was told don't know google it...… This is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. I understand these are difficult times, but there are certain things that can be dealt with in a more organised way. On the plus side breakfast was lovely, and the staff in the restaurant serving it where amazing, friendly and attentive. Overall stay was ok, just a bit more attention to detail is need to inform guest of what is open and what is not, and also what they need to do.

Nice quiet room, as requested - thank you!. Comfortable bed and a spacious room. The Covid breakfast was very acceptable and the 50% discount was excellent. A couple of niggles - one of the bedside lights was not working (room 137) and the bathroom door was sticking.
