Couldn’t easily book multiple rooms so-called central team clearly outside of uk - which is fine but they couldn’t understand my simple request for 3 rooms of different durations without multiple repeating - not ok! It took over 20 mins to book the 3 rooms so not best customer experience to start with. My perception of Mercure chain after staying in this hotel is a budget business that looks for the cheapest staff/ service provision and doesn’t train to deliver good service. Boiler broke 1st morning. Returned after a run and reception knew - these things happen - BUT no proactive suggestions - i had to suggest they found me another room with hot water which they then did. And moved me for next 2 nights to much better room. However this sums it up - inexperienced front of house with little initiative left to run the show. 3rd night returned late from client meeting at 10.45 having not eaten couldn’t rustle anything up - asked for cheese and biscuits - no not even a sandwich. Don’t need a chef to assemble some cheese and biscuits! Attention to detail poor - menus have plastic folders that are dirty and bent up inside - cost pence to replace - but clearly lack of ownership and leadership to things they should be on top of. Food not great - big portions but nothing properly seasoned, risotto masses of cream added - 2 of us left almost all of our bit no-one enquired why. Missed opportunities to learn and improve. Shared view of people I spoke to who live in Telford was this is not a great hotel and they don’t recommend. Such a shame as beautiful building, nice bar and both women who served breakfast were really helpful and nice. Nothing awful but a big chain should be on top these basics if they want a sustainable business. Was cheap but to be honest that’s all it is worth - but a few small changes and investing in front of house training, helping staff to pre-empt problems and guest requests and how to positively react etc would make a massive difference. I am a business transformation consultant- and this is free advice for the type of thing that my clients pay a lot of money for - I hope you take note of it!

We were disappointed with the room which was very tired. The armchair was tatty. The bathroom was very tired. There was mildew in the shower and the shower curtain was long overdue a wash. The towels were very small and obviously very old. We had to accept this room as it had the only accessible shower. We had very good service from two of your staff members particularly - Leslie at breakfast service who went above and beyond to help us and Farah at dinner who made the evenings a success. We have to say that the meal we had on Friday night was very good. However, the Saturday night meal was NOT AT ALL GOOD. The food was badly presented and one dish was frankly almost inedible, (overcooked fish and arid mashed potatoes). We understand there were different chefs preparing the meals on different nights. We cannot fault the other staff at all.

The experience was good. Pleasant staff, confortable bed, warm room, great food. nit picking but the bathtubs could really do with updating. although they are clean - it just does not come across very well. Also would have been great to have a shower screen/curtain.

Food was acceptable, service was fun but slow and a bit overpowering at breakfast but overall a good stay. Comfortable beds. Nice bar area to chat with family and friends. Nothing too much trouble for reception staff.

Poor, having previously visited at this hotel and having had a fantastic experience I was very much looking forward to another stay. Our room was in a terrible condition, no lock on the bathroom door, light bulbs not working, old clothes labels in the wardrobe and the whole room was damp and the window frames were rotting. After contacting reception, we were promised a better room for the 2nd night of our stay, this was indeed an improvement on the first room was was still poor. Having been a higher tier Accor member for many years, I have never experienced so many exclusions regarding the welcome drink vouchers which are not reflected on the actual T&Cs of the voucher itself. By this point, I was so disappointed with my stay that I just accepted the word of the bar staff. I'm really disappointed I wasted my reward points on this visit.

Staff were friendly but the room was very disappointing. Stayed in room 38, bathroom in need of refurbishing and was grubby. Rest of room okay but could do with being re painted. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was nice but whole area could do with a clean. Thick dust where the toaster was plugged in. Food at wedding we attended was excellent.

Pot holes on drive, missing letters on signage, dismal external lighting. Tripped up unsightly raised ramps. Room dingy, sink waste blocked, inadequate sockets each side of bed for sleep apnea machine shower hose to short, very limited wardrobe, bath panel had mold growing off it.

Hotel was good, clean. Some beds uncomfortable. Most of our concerns were with the noise from other guests. It was a shame as they spoilt the stay.

This hotel has lots of potential, the staff are kind but lack professionalism. The mattress was that uncomfortable that it hurt my back. Some items listed on the menu are not available! I will not be returning

I booked a stay on 14/12/19 to celebrate my best friends 60th birthday. Her bucket list had included a visit to the Victorian Village at Ironbridge and a stay at a castle (no husbands or children!). I couldn’t find a castle in the vicinity but was delighted to discover the monastery and booked a stay in one of the garden rooms. We were bowled over when we arrived, what a beautiful building, and as an ex Event Manager (for Barclays, Canary Wharf and O2) my friend knew I was going to deliver a perfect birthday treat. As you will note from my online booking, I requested the two course dinner with a special request for a birthday cake for dessert. I reiterated this birthday cake request to the receptionist on arrival which was acknowledged. The room allocated to us was amazing, the garden room was located in the ‘turret’ so castle wish near on granted. Huge tick, she was truly ‘wowed’. We had booked dinner at eight and when we arrived was shown to a nice table. I popped out to reception after the first course to ensure we were on track with the birthday cake. After the main course the waiter asked us if we’d like to see the desert menu. I glared at him and said if he checked with chef that it was in order. He looked very confused and slightly afraid... Surprise ruined at this point as my friend had guessed a birthday cake was coming. Except we did not receive any such thing. We were served a stale chocolate brownie with a half hearted attempt at sticking a blue wax candle in the middle. No cream or coulis to assist the presentation and it was inedible. When I tried to discreetly complain to the very young and obviously inexperienced waitress she profusely apologised for chef as he had no knowledge of the request. Still quietly fizzing at the incompetency, I eadvised the waiter that I would pick up my disappointment with a manager in the morning (the hotel seemed to be run by grads on a Thief Christmas break). Not being able to find a manager the next day, I gently complained to another junior member of staff at reception upon our departure after breakfast, who again was very apologetic but as she said, it’s done now and we can’t change it. We were not charged for the wine ordered at dinner. Perhaps you can let me know what happened to the communication trail from booking, through to arrival and a third reminder on the night? NOT PLEASANT IT WAS MY SONS WEDDING AND IT WAS SPOILED BY CONDITIONS IN ROOM. NO BEDSIDE LIGHT. NO PLUG OR TABLE NEAR BED TO PLUG IN CPAP MACHINE THAT I NEED AT NIGHT. BREAKFAST DID NOT ARRIVE. KEY CARD DID NOT WORK HAD TO MAKE A JOURNEY THROUGH WET AND MUD AND STAIRS TO MAIN BUIULDING EVERYTIME I WENT BACK TO ROOM TO SORT. TOILET DID NOT FLUSH. GOT STUCK IN SHOWER BECAUSE DOOR HINGES RUSTY TERRIFIED. PURCHASED A BOTTLE OF WATER 4.10 JUST ORDINARY SPRING WATER

location is beautiful, but outside needs more lighting, impossible to walk/drive without the risk of hitting something, rooms in a def need of re-decor, complete lack of care, even a simple re-paint would help, instead you see old dirty walls, holes in the walls where shelf or similar used to be, kettle unplagged as no were to see a wall socket near, tv unplugged, to be fair it was very cheap and so not expecting much but overall is a very sad place, great potential but not utilized at its best

very disappointed upon entering the room we had to close curtains as people in bar area/conservatory could see in the room curtains had dirty marks over carpet in need of a good vacuuming skirting boards very dusty large cobweb running from curtain pole along wall the wall near bin covered in tea/coffee stains bathroom wall mouldy tiles in bath filthy shower head would not use plug and tap in sink filthy and corroded hair in sink towels looked grubby not what i expected attended a wedding selection of wine for sale in the mill house was terrible had to walk over to the main bar to get a drinkable glass of white wine

The room I was allocated was very poor. Front door didnt fit so the wind blew straight through. The outside light wasnt on long enough to open the door. freezing cold. No wardrobe, no hangers. chest of drawers with cracked glass on top. no door on bedroom Bathroom not finished. extension leads. light switches not finished. Very poor. There was no wifi Dinning room very cold Staff very pleasant and helpful
