Reading some of the reviews I’m wondering if it’s same hotel being bashed! I stay here every week one or 2 nights. Yes the menu was limited until recently but so have the menus in every hotel. I have dietary needs and the new menu is just fantastic! I was ill one morning and staff bought my breakfast to my room with no issues. I always get a warm welcome. Any issues I’ve encountered have been immediately addressed and I’ve only ever been treated with the utmost courtesy. I’ve never had a dirty room nor towels or bedding. The description does not mislead so expecting robes and slippers and a fridge or free bottled water… pls get a grip. I feel safe here and having spent a night in another local location and felt under siege there… I will only use this hotel. Breakfast is plentiful but if u don’t want or like what’s on offer - just ask! The staff are so accommodating even for fussy gits like me 😀 A massive thumbs up for all the staff at the Mercure LETCHWORTH

Old, cold and in need of some love

Stayed with work and on arrival you see the beautiful building. Inside it’s very worn and needs some love. It could be something amazing given some time and money. The room was so cold and had a radiator which was behind the curtains so didn’t benefit. The bathroom was freezing and water just gets warm. It was so dated. But not in keeping with the building. The dust in the radiator was thick!!! Breakfast was ok. Nothing great. Such a shame it could be so much better.

Hotel was let down by a couple of things

The hotel itself was good - receptionist got me booked in fairly quickly. The room was a decent size but fairly cold and took about an hour to heat up. The corridors were cold too. Probably to do with the cost of heating. Gym was a bonus which I used. In the evening the bar had run out of some 'tap' drinks and also some food couldn't be ordered / wasn't on the menu, there was also a good few people waiting to be served, so in the end I went out for a meal. Breakfast was early and decent enough.

This used to be a lovely hotel with a great restaurant and was always a pleasure. What has happened? The reviews really sum it up and the overall feel of this place is one of apathy that has never really recovered from the pandemic. It is really sad to see this happen to a hotel that I have been to many times and have always enjoyed.
