Don't accept room 2

IamCorrectandTrue Couples - TripAdvisor review

DO NOT ACCEPT ROOM 2! Kept awake because it is situated on the stairs. Tiny comparedto the other rooms. Bathroom grubby and make shift silicon on tiles to replace grubby dirty grout. Same price as others rooms. Badly fitting curtains. Kettle lid insecure. Overall not conducive to a restful sleep. Breakfast was served til 10am, but then swiftly taken off taken away so you have arrive well before to staff rude reaching over when try to get coffee. On arrival late Saturday the receptionist was friendly. However the following morning when approached about our concerns was less than helpful. He claims I am mistaken but when other customers approached I believe he indicated for me to be quiet Unbeknownst to me his manager was present and just walked off without assisting When the receptionist tried to find him he had disappeared. On checking my credit card I now find an extra £10 charge added to my bill post departure.

Liked the location of hotel very close to the family occasion we were attending in Hitchin. Hotel was very tired, needing lots of investment to bring up to descent level of maintenance & comfort. For example, we booked a superior room. The bathroom fan did not work at all. The double wardrobe was useless as the full length hanging area was occupied by an ironing board and a potable fan heater. The other half of the wardrobe was a half hanging space with shelves at the bottom. Unfortunately the room safe was on top of the shelving unit so the “half hanging” space was also very short so a shirt, jacket, blouse etc was unable to be hung up. The laptop safe was turned at a 90o angle to the wardrobe door, so access to the coding pad was very inconvenient and poorly lit. The TV in the room was very intermittent in that it kept freezing during programmes, adverts & films.

Really lovely hotel. Surroundings are beautiful and the hotel building is just magnificent, very well renovated (some time ago) proper old English style mansion. Staff were friendly and professional. Breakfast was really good. Quality ingrediencies used, one can taste it. Hotel and a room was tidy and bed was very comfortable. BUT... now comes the but; Pillows were just a joke. Rock hard old wear down and maybe 10cm thick. I had to go to near Tesco to buy two new pillows for £5. So shouldn't be a big investment for the hotel... Pity that this 'smudged' otherwise perfect stay. Good location next to A1(M) and Letchworth/Baldock with all major restaurants and shops. Nevertheless, I will visit again. Maybe next time they have updated the pillows... ;-)

Well positioned for my visit to the area

I stayed for four nights. The first two were uncomfortable, in that there were 'mechanical noises' 'humming' in the background whilst I slept. The air conditioning unit was faulty and not operational. I therefore had two not very night sleeps (Room 39). On the third night, I asked for a change of room and was directed to Room 12. Apart from the squeaky floor boards whilst moving around this was a much quieter room and my remaining nights sleep were faultless. I would like to say that both rooms were very clean and spotless - a credit to the cleaning staff. I was disappointed that drinking glasses were not available in the rooms? These are cheap and easy to clean. Given the hot dry climate at the time would have been a pleasant addition to the room. I ate two evening meals in the bar. Whilst the meals were okay in portion size etc. The only negative observation was the height of the chairs in relation to the tables. I felt my mouth was at table height... Staff okay, but lacked the 'polish' and manners I would have expected in such an establishment. Male reception with a scruffy shirt and unkept appearance. Waitress who pointed to the location of cutlery and condiments across the dining room after placing my food on the table in front of me! Would I stay again? Probably not. Clearly an 'economical' hotel
