My room was very cold. I reported it to reception and was told she would see if she could get the heating 'tweaked up'. I reported again in the morning and she said she would get 'maintenance' to look at it. When I returned late afternoon I was told maintenance had fixed it. When I got to the room it was much warmer and the curtains were open. When I closed the curtains the room started to go much colder. In the end I stuffed the curtains behind the radiator and the room temperature was OK for the rest of the stay. The curtains were thick and lined from floor to ceiling. The heat from the radiator didn't penetrate them and went straight through the glass. I can't beleive that I'm the first guest to have experienced this.

Well located for my work trip

Brief. I have stayed once before and although this was before the tier system between the lockdowns, the evening meal offerings were not as excepted on my second stay with limited options for food (bit limited on portion size also), no taps on so drinks were served from bottles and the breakfast was most disappointing with either cereal and yoghurt or a small single sausage/bacon bap to take away (my first stay included a bit more options and a full breakfast to take away which was reasonably sized for the price of breakfast). I understand it is a challenging time during Covid but lets not allow the standards to drop.

Excellent young team, however rooms unfinished, damaged and tired. Pillows wafer think, mattress lurching to one side. Alround well below Mercure standard.

Every staff member we met was extremely polite and helpful. We were celebrating our Ruby Wedding Anniversary , and on entering our room found there were two complimentary desserts, some macaroons and free drinks vouchers - very welcome. Room was spacious and clean (would have rated a 10 if the bathroom ceiling had been repainted to remove signs of damp). Felt very safe within the hotel - one way arrows and distance markers on the floor, masks worn when moving about the hotel , sanitisers available in numerous locations , disposable cups and packs containing tea, coffee, sugar and toiletries handed out on arrival. Tables were well distanced in the breakfast room , sanitised between customers, one way system and number restrictions in place when heading to the buffet. Good choice of cooked breakfast (served my staff member ) , cereals, and drinks . As our first time away since lockdown we were very pleased with our stay and would definitely return.

Under current Covid restrictions, we felt very safe in the hotel as everything was organised to eliminate any possibility of contracting the virus. Yet service was still good.

Hotel was clean and comfortable. Very comfortable bed. Decor a bit tired and faded. Probably approaching a refurb in the near future. As we were only there 2 nights, we did not miss the reduced housekeeping service during Covid. Indeed, all the staff were excellent. The breakfast was a huge disappointment, while we understood the Covid-safety measures meant pre-ordering and collecting our breakfast, the lack of choice and the polystyrene containers and plastic cutlery were reminiscent of greasy spoon cafes and environmentally wasteful. We could not understand how or why proper plates or cutlery could not be used - given everything is cleaned in between use anyway.
