The hotel is very pleasant with a village feel to it. It is a short distance to the airport and a bit more to the city. Lovely views across the water but noisy from planes and traffic on the motorway. Very English feel to the buildings. Room had great spa bath and shower but limited facilities. Sheets not changed for four days. Good pub opposite which impacts on the hotel bar. Good breakfasts. Best here with a car as 20 minute walk to the shops.

Our room was very nice, the wardrobe could have been better designed for ease of access and storage. Our requests were satisfied promptly and cheerfully in every case so our stay was excellent in every way except for the meals, which were insufficient in content and choice and certainly not value for money.

Clean rooms but hate the fluro bulbs in the lights and having no lamp in the living room meant I watched TV in the dark!

What a difference!

It's been just over a year since I last stayed at this property in one of the Summerhouse Cottages and dined at TMK restaurant and what a difference a year makes. The rooms have had a soft refurb making them more airy and light, while still retaining the character and charm. New lounge sofa and large Smart TV finish off the update which was great to see. While there wasn't much of a change visually to the restaurant, there has possibly been changes with staff, which made a massive improvement to myself in terms of the service and overall experience for dinner! Kayla was super friendly and attentive, service was quick and the food (lamb special with a couple of sides) was perfect. Unfortunately Kayla was on breakfast service and I found this a little disjointed and slow, however the food again was standout from the a la carte menu.

Disappointed to be honest. Used to be my fave NZ Hotel but now it's tired, needs Aircon, the restaurant has gone downhill to sharing plates only. Still nice rooms but overall it needs updating

Excellent accommodation with a peak of the water

We were pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness and character of our room. We thought the location might have been inconvenient but the off-peak drive into the centre of Nelson was less than 15 minutes. The location allowed us to get out and walk along the estuary and enjoy the fine weather at the time. The Grand Mercure would be our first choice for future visits to Nelson.
