Wining and Dining in the Hunter

TripAdvisor rating 4.0/5

Col J 11/04/2021 TripAdvisor review

Mecure Resort Valley Gardens although starting to show its age a bit is a straight forward studio style roomed hotel with drive up access to your room. The location is what gives this hotel its advantage by being central to a large number of wineries and restaurant's all within easy walking distance, when visiting wine country this removes the worry of driving, the hotel is even serviced by one of the popular gastro pubs courtesy bus. If simple clean accommodation with all the amenities is what you want in the Hunter then the Mecure Hunter Valley Gardens fits the bill. Just hope you get a room with an upgraded bed mattress as the old one we had was very hard/lumpy resulting in the last two nights being spent on the sofa bed as it was more supportive.

Good location

Felt was overpriced for what we got. We had to share 1 knife and 1 teaspoon between us that’s all that was in the room. Bed very comfy, bath good. Wasn't to fussed on breakfast glad we could use our voucher to pay for it.

Awesome location

Spent two nights at Mercury Hunter Valley Gardens. Our second time there and we weren’t disappointed.

Little bit disappointed

We’ve recently stayed at the Mercure over the Easter break. As we entered the room all seemed to be fine. Open staying there through out the week we noticed the cleanliness of the room was not up to standard, you could see the soap scum like on the bottom of the shower and the shower head, the room was dusty and the hotel in general was not really kid friendly. There was not working lock on the back of the door as we have a young child who can reach the handle it did not secure him during the night if he happens to wake up. to ensure his safety We the reception was notified this the gentleman said ‘ we’ll take this a positive criticism’ and there was no acknowledgement of what we were explained.

Well located

Great location, walking distance from Roche Estate and short drives/ taxi to some of the Hunter's best wineries. Private balcony was a plus. Room could use a refresh, spiders made their selves at home and spun webs throughout the room overnight. Room service hung up and did not answer phone. Bit pricey for the quality, but we were willing to pay for the location.

Welcomed back

Disappointing Stay

Very disappointing overall. We stayed in the "Presidential Suite" which should not be called that. Very tied and dated with terrible housekeeping. Forgetting to restock coffee/milk. Only plus is the location.

Enjoyed being upgraded

1st time in the Hunter Valley to stay and the hotel was in a great location and the staff are very welcoming, we had a little problem in out room when we arrived and I spoke to reception and they had us moved straight away ...no questions asked...the staff in the restaurant were great and the food was amazing.... would definitely stay again :)

Most Disgusting Hotel Room I have ever stayed in

Customer review rating 0.5/5

Saville Couples - 05/04/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

Over all my many years of travelling for business and leisure, I have never felt so ripped off as I was on this stay. The room was musty, dirty and infested with bugs and insects. It is evident that the hotel were aware of this issue as they provided a can of insect spray in the cupboard. I have stayed in motels that were only $100 per night that were more comfortable and cleaner than this hotel room. This room was not cheap at over $360 per night. On some afternoons when we had some spare time we didn't even feel like going back to our room to relax because of it's disgusting state. At check out when I told the Front Desk assistant about the disgusting state of the room he made out as though it was my fault for not reporting it to anyone so that they could have gone in and cleaned it. I didn't feel that it was my responsibility to do this as it should have be up to the House Keeping Manager and the Hotel Manager to ensure that all rooms are clean and and fresh and up to their brand standard. This clearly was not happening on ALL levels at this hotel. The architrave of the bathroom door was SO rusted and despicable that it is impossible that the cleaning staff and hotel maintenance did not know about this. You could also tell that the filth on the sliding door track had NEVER been dusted or vacuumed for months, if ever. I have many pictures to indicate the unhealthy state of this room. Unfortunately I have no way of showing the the disgusting musty smell.

Perfectly located, walking distance to several wineries, the village and the gardens.. The rooms could do with some slight updates and maintenance though.

Firstly we requested a early checking and was told we would be texted when our room is ready and we never got a text even at 2pm Secondly the room for the price is very old and worn, eg pieces of wall in bathroom swelling from being water logged. Thirdly we asked for two extra dinner plates and cutlery and was simply told we can have some but there was no one there to bring them up to us and we had to walk down and get them. Finally the bar fridge was empty not even any cold bottled water In conclusion for $320 per night we expect a lot better service and quality of room than we got.

Nice Stay

Check in was easy, the room was nice, easy walk to the Hunter Valley Gardens. Booked in for Breakfast and was informed I can use my accor membership card for breakfast whilst making the booking. That was not true due to the Public Holiday, I had to pay the full amount. It was a bit inconvenient. The staff member taking the booking must have not realized, or forgot the card cannot be used on public holidays. I would stay here again.

Best spot. Best bath.
