The staff were pleasant and helpful. The temperature in the room was far too hot and we were unable to get it below 23 degrees even with frequent assistance of the staff. The bathroom door would not close even though the maintenance staff tried to rectify it. We were offered to change rooms but we did not feel it was worth it

A letter was sent by myself to Joanne Green on 15th October via email, to which I have had no reply as yet. I attach it to this survey, and sincerely trust it will reach who is required to read it ie Joanne Green. See below: Dear Sirs I write more in sorrow than in anger in this instance, and feel that I have to report my experience so that procedures can be put in place to ensure that this does not happen to future clients. The following is a suggestion at this time – I took two dogs with me and was informed that this would cost me £10 per night per dog (I was staying for two nights) and was then informed that the room would not be cleaned between our days ‘because of Covid’. I agreed to that naturally, but do feel that if Covid is a problem perhaps you should consider charging for a ‘stay’ rather than per night, after all this payment is supposed to be for the ‘extra cleaning required’ when a dog stays in your rooms, and this was not done in this instance. The £40 for two nights almost reached the amount I was paying for myself and this is ridiculous. Now I must give the Hotel an accolade, the breakfasts that we had over the two days were outstanding, so much choice and all delicious. Such a shame that the following happened to make my stay uncomfortable. On the first night that my friend and I stayed at Ibis, Gloucester we decided to have our meal in house, as this is so much easier than attempting to find somewhere local to eat. On arriving in the restaurant we seated ourselves and looked at the menu (which I have to say is extremely limited, but we were given this when we arrived so we were aware of this). We chose our meal and all was well. However when I went up to order puddings, I ordered two Lemon tarts at a cost of £9.90 – all fine to this point. Then the young man came to us to say that they had no Lemon tart, so I said OK I will have the Chocolate Fondant, but was informed that this was not available either!! Leaving only Ice Cream as a ‘choice’, which as it happens I do not like. Having said that I thought it was disgusting that the Hotel did not have any choice I said I would have a Latte Coffee and my friend said she would have Ice Cream. I must say that the staff at this point did not seem to care much that their menu was so limited, in fact a non menu for the Puddings. BTW at breakfast we had a choice of numerous yogurts, I did mention a yogurt but was not offered one instead!. I was not at all happy and do believe that good customer relations would have been to give me the coffee for free to make up for the unavailability of anything else, but that was not offered at all, nor was a refund for the items we had not had ie I paid £9.90 and the two items that we did in fact have came to a total of £6.45 therefore I was owed £3.45, but this was not forthcoming at all, although I did not actually ask for it – it should have been immediately offered to me surely? The next night we were getting together with 3 other friends at the Hotel and we all decided that as we had had a busy day, at the Dog Show that we had been attending, that we would take a chance on eating once again at the Hotel, fully expecting that the items that were missing the day before would have been provided, even if they had to go out and buy something to give to their customers if a delivery was not coming. I asked as we went in to eat and was informed quite abruptly, that NO there was only Ice Cream, AGAIN, we were however pleased to note that fish and chips had been added to the Menu which a number of us chose and enjoyed. When it came to the pudding of course once again there was nothing for me so I ordered a coffee and was amazed to find that I was expected to pay for it. I made it very clear indeed that I did not intend to pay as I was already owed £3.45 from the previous night. In fact before we went to eat I had said to my friends that if a coffee was offered to me without payment and perhaps even a smile (which were in very short supply, in fact non-existant) I would allow the Hotel to keep the odd 45p and leave it at that, however this did not happen and so I demanded a refund of this amount. You would have thought that this would have been forthcoming without any argument and immediately, but no, our waiter said he would have to ask his Supervisor, but failed to come back to me with an answer. I then asked who was in charge and was told that this was the lady I was speaking to, called Paige I understand, and she once again was not exactly rude, but as close to it as possible I have to say, she said she would have to organise it and disappeared behind a door, I stood there for a few minutes but she did not return so I told our waiter that I would be at our table and expected her to come to me. It was a full 10 minutes before she reappeared with a card reader, which was put under my nose to read that I had the refund of £3.45 and I dealt with it, there was no smile a quick and surly SORRY did not suffice I am afraid. This may seem petty but the whole procedure left me with a nasty feeling, in my opinion – and I have worked in hospitality – I should have been returned my full amount the previous night as an apology for the disgusting service, and if not that then on the second night I should have been offered the refund without having to ‘fight’ for it. We all noted that smiles and cheery greetings were pretty well non existent except when we checked in when we were dealt with appropriately, in fact by the same person who was our ‘waiter’ in the evening. I sincerely hope that I will receive a reply to this letter, although it is very hard to find out who it should be sent to, I have found the email address I have used on the Reviews page and hope that if this is not correct you will kindly send it on to the person who needs to see it and who is in total charge of Ibis Gloucester, not the staff on duty on our visit. We extended our stay three times because we have felt so at home. The staff are great with special mention for Page and Oliver. Finally after three great weeks we have to leave and get back home.

Stayed overnight as a stop over on the way up to the Lakes. Room is very basic and some large cob webs on the ceiling were in need of cleaning up. Ate in the small restaurant in the reception and food was excellent. Small bar as well. Bathroom was a little weird, quite a big step up to it which makes for an interesting visit to the toilet in the middle of the night.

Good location, easy walk into Gloucester.

The room was fine as usual, however the breakfast was very poor indeed, poor viennoiserie, badly cooked croissant in plastic wrapping !! very little fresh fruit, no local or regional speciality. Overall quite disappointing

A little out of town, but bus nearby. No proper ventilation in the room as not able to open due to a very short restricting cable, would not open enough even to put your fingers through. Staff were not allowed to open window up for safety reasons. But government advice is to keep rooms well ventilated due to covid. Would have been happy to sign a disclaimer, we are not youngsters getting drunk and being stupid, and we did not have children with us. This is the same in many hotels now and it detracts from a comfortable stay. Staff and management have to have a sense of proportion. This is a real issue, apart from that everything else great.

Overpriced for the service and accommodation provided.

A pleasant and clean hotel and a good breakfast but the price was close what I've paid for 4-5 star luxury, often with use of leisure facilities and breakfast included. I don't think the fact it was saturday justifies the inflation of the price. My previous stay booked in March 2020 had to be cancelled last minute when it was clear Covid meant the event would not go ahead and that the hotel would not be open. I was never apprpached to offer a refund or discount on a future stay

We have stayed here before and the offering was exactly as expected. The room was reasonably sized and, although basic, met expectations. Check-in was efficient and the staff pleasant. We didn't use any of the other facilities. The only drawback was the shower tray in room 424 did not drain very well resulting in a flooded bathroom!

I have stayed here before and again I was pleased with my room,the facilities and the breakfast offer.We opted to have dinner.The choice was limited by delivery problems and my friend was over charged.This was handled very poorly by the Customer Service Advisor,Paige,who ,despite several requests for a refund,ignored us and made a small problem much greater and really upset my friend.Disappointing.

We stayed on a Sunday and Monday night. The room was very functional and immaculately clean. The staff were very helpful, professional and a credit to the hotel. Parking was easy and there were plenty of spaces and it was free as long as you registered your licence plate at reception when you checked in. I checked us in on line and this saved time at reception on arrival and also on departure. The rooms also included breakfast which was served in the foyer area adjacent to the reception. You could have a fully cooked breakfast or cereals etc. The food was very good and the plates were hot, great toast and juices, fruit, yoghurts were also provided. The coffee machine was excellnt and dispensed very good quality drinks. Overall I would rate the breakfasts as 9 out of 10. The shower in the room was housed in a modular unit and it was very roomy. My only negative is that the beds were rather hard for my liking and so were the pillows. I did ask reception for extra pillows but there is no option of a softer pillow. Overall no big deal as it's really just a personal preference. One other great thing about the rooms were that although the place was relatively full, the rooms were very well insulated from extraneous noises and therefore were very peaceful. Overall, I was very impressed and would not hesitate to stay there again and for just over £111 for two nights bed and breakfast, it was great value for money.

Very nice clean hotel. Powerful showers. Breakfast excellent. Dining room lacks atmosphere, more like a works canteen. Good value for money unless you stay on weekend when prices shot up from £44 a night to £145!!! Very disappointed in this as we had been staying for 3 nights and wanted another 2 but at these prices we moved on.

Always stay on trip to and from Cornwall. It is nicely mid distant from York. Very satisfactory. Disappointed, however, at IBIS taking advantage of the pandemic to significantly increase rates for rooms. And in the light of that, a further disappointment in the very limited menu at dinner'.
