The hotel is in a good location and we were made to feel really welcome, plus the room was extremely comfortable.

Terrible on arrival informed that the free upgrade was an automated email and does not apply to this hotel and anyway no available upgrades although he did not check Awarded EDENRED gift vouchers for 25years service in the NHS which I was informed by the catering manager they were never heard of and dont count although listed on the EDENRED BROCHURE trays of food and glasses left out side the room doors for upto 6 to 8hrs with young children running up and down the corridor definitely a safety hazard in formed by a cleaner not there job to remove same and contact catering department,NO teamwork between same Have stayed in mercure hotels in the past and it's very sad to see how your standards have plummeted

Stayed two nights, the staff were very polite and friendly. The food was not very good and there was Iraq families in the rooms with children screaming and running around..

Disappointing stay

I booked through secret escapes expecting a lovely hotel, I was disappointed on entering our “privilege” room! It could have been a lot cleaner to start with, all the soft furnishings, robes, and phone had been removed from the room and they were not doing newspapers as was part of the deal. There was one set of worn towels although we found another set in the wardrobe! The rooms are not cleaned or made up daily as your would expect on a 4 star hotel apparently due to covid! I did wonder if the hotel has been used to for an alternative purpose during lockdown e.g.as a covid hotel for passengers arriving in UK who have to isolate. But that just my thoughts.

Melissa Couples - 10/10/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

A very well located hotel, in a brilliant spot in Bristol. The reception staff were varied in their approach to customer service. I had asked repeatedly to not have a duvet but this was never acknowledged or acted on. The heating was not working, however we had to actually ask about this and would not have been told otherwise. We felt very fobbed off about this and on asking someone if we would be informed when it was fixed, he said of course not! The staff in the dining room were lovely, could not have been more helpful. Also I think it is not acceptable to not have your room cleaned or stocks replenished for three days. I have no problem not having linen changed but feel that cleaning should have been every other day. The corridors to rooms looked very messy with glasses and dirty plates being in them for days! The hotel was lovely and quiet but I will not be staying again.

Good - Very spacious, clean room with a comfy bed and crisp bedding. Nice reception and restaurant bar areas. Friendly service with a smile. Good location for museums, bars and restaurants. Good breakfast (terrible sausages). Not so good - I was handed a piece of paper at check in informing me that due to COVID the room wouldn’t be turned around unless we were staying for 3 nights. If I’m paying full price for a hotel I expect my room to be made up daily - and I should have been told this prior to booking. And if you are that concerned about Covid how can you conceivably offer a self service buffet breakfast where everyone is touching everything? It doesn’t make sense.

No heating, tired room but good location

Customer review rating 3.0/5

Stuart R. Couples - 10/10/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

There was no heating in the hotel. It was very cold even with fan heaters that were provided. We spent a lot of money on a room that was very tired looking and in need of a refurb. Reported issue about the heating nothing could be done as it was across the hotel, no compensation was offered. Explained on arrival that daily cleaning would not be completed - very odd for a junior suite however this was explained as covid related. We ended up asking for more toilet roll and towels from the cleaning ladies who were very nice, they didn’t speak English however we managed to communicate in the end. Generally underwhelmed with the room and not had that in a suite before, wouldn’t have bothered paying all the money if I could have seen it first hand prior to booking.

Old and run down, being used as social housing such a shame

Lots of work needs doing to hotel, run down. Social housing and people with no regard as the smell and rubbish left in corridors was not nice, breakfast was really good

Random stranger found in my room as I got out the shower & swimming pool closed

Customer review rating 0.5/5

Ray Business - 07/10/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

I chose this hotel specifically because it had a swimming pool. On arrival I was told it was closed for refurbishment (I’d only booked a few days before so this was known at the time of booking). Had I known in advance I would have chosen another hotel. Also on my first day I took a shower and when I got out and walked into my room (virtually naked) another guest had been given my key and room and was standing in my bedroom. I’m sure he recited an apology when he went back to reception - no one though to come an apologise or explain themselves to me! I spent the rest of my stay worried someone else could just wonder in so had to lock the door when I was there and could not leave valuables in my room. I didn’t sleep well at all due to thinking it could happen again if there’s an error in the system.

Staff are great, helpful and friendly, room was spacious with a comfy bed and well equipped, the hotel is well located with safe secure car parking, but our stay was let down by several annoying things, several of which are easily fixed. 1. only one bath towel, 2. limited tea bags. 3. poor temperature control on air con (only cold or colder) 4. food service stopped at 9.30 pm, but room service didn't start until 11.00 but then told it would be at least 12.00 before any food served. 5. Room and hotel in desperate need of an upgrade and refit. mould in shower, carpet stained.

not worth the money

mouldy bathroom, pillows without pillowcases, soiled carpets, and lousy breakfast with cold english breakfast, the hotel was central to our friends appt which is why we stayed there, but not worth £186 band b. woken up by noisy neighbour shouting in the corridor at 5.30am

Great location, room size and decor. Slight downside was the room didn't have the towels or tea/coffee replenished correctly for two guests. Also got differing advice from a receptionist I spoke to over the phone and in person on check-in and the air-conditioner was uncomfortably loud! Good overall though and will stay again.

Kate J 20/09/2021 TripAdvisor review

This was our first time here and it was perfectly fine, clean, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was good with everything you could want. This hotel does not warrant the bad reviews at all. My only minor negatives were the bathroom door didn't fully close, there weren't enough towel rails and the hairdryer was rubbish.

Room needed freshing up, mini fridge didn’t work, big crack in bathroom ceiling, mould in shower, loads of red marks in roll top bath, toilet was hard to flush, coy get to sleep Saturday night as hotel held at 50th birthday party below our room, only thing what was good about the hotel was it’s breakfast

City weekend

Mr B 15/09/2021 TripAdvisor review

Hotel staff very friendly especially the restaurant staff, lobby, bar and restaurant areas very nice and clean. A shame that the same couldn't be said regarding the stairwell and room. We had privilege room 265 which was dusty had mould around the shower area. Aircon was useless and noisy and the soundproofing left a lot to be desired as you could her everyone who came up and down the hallway. Hotel in general looks like it needs a refurbishment! Also there was no robes or slippers which should have been in a Privilege room, this hotel is not four star standard.
