Disgusted with their cancellation policy - especially during a cyclone

Let me advise all future travellers to be extremely weary about booking your accommodation at Grand Mercure Allegra Hervey Bay. I happened to book a better rate with this hotel by choosing their no cancellation discounted rate - which was fine as I had no intention of cancelling. However, cyclone Alfred hit the Gold Coast (which is where I live) and despite authorities, etc stating how we were to remain indoors and not drive anywhere, this hotel refused offering me a refund because I had chosen their "no refund rate". They had no intention of refunding me - i.e. come and stay with us or don't - no refund what so ever. I was absolutely disgusted that they would expect me to drive through a cyclone to get to Hervey Bay - you guys should be ashamed of yourselves. Let me also add that 30 minutes into driving from my home to Hervey Bay, they rang and advised that the cyclone was passing through Hervey Bay and that I should consult road outages, etc before continuing on to Hervey Bay. It was only 10 minutes after that call that they rang back and told me that water was getting into the Hotel and they were willing to offer me a full refund. You guys would rather endanger the lives of your customers than be reasonable and offer a discount due to exceptional circumstances such as a "CYCLONE". I hope potential customers read this review and stay elsewhere. I have never dealt with such an unreasonable, rude, uncaring Hotel Management in my entire life.

Lovely apartment, well equipped. Nice restaurant on site. Pool is great, though it was very quiet in late Jan. Underground car park with good access. Sea view is a stretch as the prom is tree lined. Helpful desk staff. A bit over the top on the rules, empty the bins etc but it was easy enough.. washer and dryer in the apartment was handy as it never stopped raining in 2 night stay in Jan.

This hotel was a great choice. The apartments are modern, spacious, and very clean. The location is ideal—right by the beach, with a supermarket just a 5-minute walk away, and plenty of restaurants even closer. What impressed me most was the quality of the staff. The receptionist contacted me twice to make sure our tours (whale watching and a K'gari excursion with hotel pickup) were well organized. The manager also made a real effort to ensure our stay was comfortable and hassle-free. Overall, a very pleasant experience. I’d be happy to return in the future.

Great experience, rooms big and spacious with every amenities. Clean, modern and tidy. Perfect locality with perfect coffee and cafe close by as well as a selection of restaurants. Beautiful enclosed and safe swimming pool. Friendly and welcoming team

If visiting Hervey Bay for the Whales, Allegra is a great place to stay

Usually stay at "full facility" hotels but we selected Allegra even though it was a "room with own catering facilities / no onsite restaurant" and it was a great decision. The apartment was enormous - two bedrooms, two bathrooms (one included washing machine and tumble dryer) large sitting room and adjoined kitchen area. all spotlessly clean and everything felt "new" - plus hotel included free parking. Restaurants and bars were either a short walk away (Torquay) or an Uber to the harbour area. Pleased we chose this one and very good value (slept 3 for under AUD 150 per night)
