I knew what I was booking - so I cannot complain about the small size of the room. Throughout the length of our stay of 3 days, 1 elevator was out of service causing long wait for the only functioning elevator. Paid for & Booked room with breakfast and when we went for breakfast, found that there are 3 tiers of breakfast. A basic level for $15 and additional options for +$6 & +something. This could be have been indicated during the room booking and mind you - I booked through the hotel website and not any 3rd party. My daughter commented that this is probably a men's only hotel as the bathrooms had a common soap liquid for face, body and hair and as per her - no ladies would use a body soap for the hair. She probably has a point. The carpeting is really old and frayed and starts looking dirty. A renovation is much needed. And so should the reception staff who were either bored with their work or just not motivated. Checkout time is 10AM and when I asked for one room (we had booked 2 rooms) to have late checkout by 12 Noon, we were told that it will be extra $20. Quite surprised by that. On the plus side - the location is ideal, beds are comfy, rooms are silent.

For breakfast, our $15 continental buffet includes a variety of options, with the choice to upgrade to a full cooked plate for an additional $6, allowing guests to select what best suits their preferences. We will review how this is communicated to ensure clarity for future bookings. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused by the elevator and any service shortcomings you experienced. Your comments regarding our facilities and staff will be taken on board and discussed further with management as we continuously work on improving our guest experience. It's very, very good value for the location, but it's not the best Ibis Styles I've ever stayed at. The rooms are a bit small and it feels a bit unpolished (although I understand they're doing some renovation work, per the signs inside). But the staff were fantastic, the housekeeping was good, and the location is just fantastic. All round, excellent value for money.

The Ibis Kingsgate has delivered a wonderful guest experience at a hard to beat rate in a great spot in Melbourne!!! It’s hard to know where to begin but as a heavily seasoned traveller across all levels of hotels I sincerely can say this Ibis punches above its weight. Housed in a beautiful early 20th century building with loads of character I urge every guest to stop and really appreciate your surroundings. The solid beautifully carved stair cases, stain glassed windows, the all so friendly staff, and you have to experience one of the two cooked options for breakfast cooked to order yum yum yum. Rooms a little tight but more than comfortable and the staff at all levels eager to welcome and assist with all requests. Most of the negative reviews are rubbish. If your a light sleeper just request a quieter room simple. The whole hotel including reception, Dining, hallways and rooms were absolutely spotless. The hotel offers two lifts from reception, gym and the all important guest Laundry. Southern cross station, crown casino, aquarium and the tram all very close by. The tram will take you for free right into the heart of the cbd. Parking offsite but very close by and very reasonably priced. I actually really really was surprised how much I loved my few day stay and being almost privileged to be able to stay in such a charismatic and historical building more akin to an bnb then an Ibis. So well done shout out to Ravi, Kadek, Larry, Wendy, EL, and allll the rest of the team 100% you will have to put up with me again soon!
