The welcome and attention from the staff is really good. Many aspects of the hotel and service are fine but it has to be said that the decor and general condition is getting tired and in need of an overhaul mainly the bedrooms and corridors as the public areas are fine.

Having been to Denbies Winery for the afternoon of tasting this hotel was perfect for an overnight stay. Good welcome and a very pleasant garden room. Though the exterior windows need some attention. Lovely breakfast.

- part of a car-tour group. Expected to have dinner at hotel, but hotel could not confirm arrangements in timely manner - led to some going out/elsewhere, breaking the group ambience Breakfast fine. Rooms appear to have constant background noise from air conditioning, even though the room system not switched on.

Building very dated. Needs a whole new up do. Lots of peaks everywhere, wet carpets, wallpaper peeling off walls ins corridors, bedrooms were cold, windows not shutting, some had no hot water for the wedding party we stayed for. Our room was dirty in the bathroom and spiders everywhere

Attending a wedding Staff really worked hard but could of done with more staff behind the bar Room was comfortable and quiet Food was good even though a little slow between courses but presume this is staff levels

A very tired hotel

I stayed for a work event for two nights. Whilst clean, my room was cold and I couldn’t adjust the temperature. The shower didn’t work and apparently couldn’t be fixed. The staff were lovely and tried to be helpful. Our meal didn’t include vegetarian and vegan options even though they had been ordered.

We stayed after a wedding at the hotel and were given a large room for us and our two young children. It was very comfortable and we'll equipped and we slept as well as we could do with a baby in tow! Breakfast gave plenty of options and staff were very friendly and helpful. Thank you!

Staff were excellent. Difficult times so dinner menu understandably limited, one meal was over salted and inedible. Breakfast was good with a wide choice range. Public areas were well appointed, as was the bar. Our room was comfortable but a little dated and could do with a makeover - a walk-in shower should be included rather than a shower in a bath, perhaps minimizing the number of rooms with baths if space is an issue.

Well located and disappointing stay

The room first allocated was dirty & dusty however we were allocated an upgrade room very quickly after complaining. The rooms and environment round the bedrooms are tired and dated, not a luxury experience. The toiletries advertised were 'travel lodge' quality and disappointing. The hotel was struggling to accommodate a wedding and a meeting and seriously understaffed. As independent travellers trying to get service at the bar was reminiscent of Fawlty Towers. The staff were doing their absolute best in very trying circumstances being cheerful, helpful and polite. We had 'treated' ourselves to 2 nights while attending a wedding outside the hotel, we were expecting luxury from Dorking's premier hotel we were seriously disappointed.

We were married here 3 years ago. Sadly the hotel was much better then than it is now. I understand there must have been difficult times with the pandemic but some things that are really simple would have made the stay/the hotel that bit better. The windows everywhere are filthy and have cobwebs. I noticed straight away at reception and worry that it isn’t W good first impression for the hotel. There was no bar staff on the bar, on a Saturday night. Which seemed a bit disappointing really but we were heading out anyway, so not too much of an issue. The room was clean and comfy so that was good, and the grounds and views are lovely as always. We didn’t realise the pool was out of use for our stay so that was also a little disappointing. Breakfast was good and I like the self serve, all you can eat option.

A nice little break

I read the reviews before booking and I must say I was surprised with the recent negative comments but decided to go anyway as I wanted a nice outdoor pool near London. My stay was so pleasant and I have nothing but good things to say - from the receptionist who greated us upon arrival and kindly informed that hotel does not operate dinner restaurant, however suggested local pubs instead. Ground floor rooms now also allow pets! So we actually had a little puppy with us, which was so nice - the breakfast buffet was generous and they sat us in the outside area (I asked) in the nice weather so that we can also have the dog with us while eating; the pool to enjoy was amazing too. Area itself is really nice, you can do plenty of walks in Box Hill. I would definitely stay at this hotel again, especially during the next heat wave!
