I’m sorry to say it but the room was extremely hot- can’t be helped I understand that. But, I got in late and woke in the middle of the night and realised there was no water in the room and that tap was only giving me warm water. I called down to reception (answered on the second attempt) and was told “you want to come down and get it”? Not really, it was about 3am, which meant I had to get dressed and head down from the 2nd floor. When I mentioned no water I was advised that someone else had had the same issue. The thing that annoyed me was that ok such a hot day there should have been water and if they knew there was none I shouldn’t have been asked so rudely to come down and get it.

Location is ideal: central Banbury, yet with a spacious car park & even a pleasant garden to sit in (we were there during the August heat-wave!) We were pleased to find a fan had been put in our room, which was a generous size & had plenty of storage space. Very good shower - AND easy to work! Plenty of variety on offer at the self-service buffet breakfast. I should have requested in advance that we would like a room on either the ground floor or first floor, as we had three steep flights of stairs to reach room 59 - and I'm nearly 87, so struggle a bit these days!

We booked this room a year ago when we thought we would be able to attend Cropredy 2022. We found out in April that we could not make it and contacted the hotel who said to try and find others to purchase the room from us as they could not refund us. After several months of trying to sell the room - which is for the town’s most sold out night of any year - we contacted them again to see if we could get a credit. They told us they were not responsible for the decision and to contact Accor Live who we booked through (as that’s where their own website directed us a year ago). They said Accor Live was who could refund or credit us. We were only looking for a credit anyway. Accor Live were very friendly and told us that the property and not them, had the discretion to give us a credit or to issue a refund. After being promised and not receiving several calls from Whately Hall we finally reached someone who gave us a manager’s email. She refused us a refund or a credit, and instead said we could rebook specific dates only at their property. When we tried to reply - twice now - we were ignored. My husband made a last ditch attempt yesterday to call and after trying to get a reasonable excuse for why no credit would be forthcoming- on this the busiest and most sold out weekend of the year when there’s a heatwave on and there must be campers looking for a room indoors - was put on hold and the staff member never returned. We still have this reservation until tomorrow night. We are STILL trying to sell it on - though we don’t really have the contacts to do so. And we are disgusted with how this hotel has treated us. Really unnecessary as they could have resold this room 5 times over already.

The rooms were in a very poor condition, the window didn’t open and the old dusty and rusty fan did nothing to cool down the room. There were no toiletries, even at front desk, and the room looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years.
