The main reason for my low score was that I had the worst sleep I have ever had at any hotel. Basically the bedding (primarily the duvet) was so lumpy and uncomfortable that I couldn’t sleep. I did get a change of duvet but it was worse than the original one so I ended up sleeping under the bathrobes! The room was adequate and it was clean. The breakfasts were quite acceptable but we had an afternoon tea with our family which was disappointing and the service was poor. The best thing about this hotel is the location, it couldn’t be any better which made our experience all the more disappointing. We stayed here some years ago around Christmas time and we found the hotel quite good then. I did write a letter of complaint to the manager Mr Erol Uray and he did not acknowledge it. So a couple of months later I actually hand delivered a copy of the letter (a receptionists took it) to the hotel and haven’t heard a word sine. Obviously mr Uray thought my letter was not worth a response. I wrote to him because I didn’t really want to write this on Tripadvisor.
Incompetent and irresponsible

A superior room in a 4 star hotel - Shower - no hot water Bathrobe - no slippers Refreshment tray - 3 tiny sachets of instant coffee, a few tea bags, uht milk sachets and 2 dry biscuits One grubby armchair. But more importantly - fire alarm went off at 3.00 am and the staff response was irresponsible. For at least 20 minutes of standing outside no roll call was taken. Many of the guests were elderly and infirm. No evidence of staff support for them. Staff appeared to be out of their depth in handling the situation. I would fear for the safety of guests if a serious fire had occurred. On checking out, no apology for the room’s shortcomings and not a single sympathetic word about the disturbed night.

Stayed here on a short break on the occasion of my wife's birthday, we set off from South Devon quite early with the intention of lunch in Cheltenham, on arrival at the Queens Hotel I was disappointed to learn that it was going to costs me £15.00 per day to park my car at the hotel. At reception I was asked for my credit card and paid a pre-authorisation amount, the bar was closed as was the restaurant at lunchtime. After a pleasant lunch in town we retired to our room which was very pleasant and well laid out. As we had booked dinner for two nights we arrived at the bar for a pre-dinner drinks, the bar tend offered a wine list, but as the lighting was so dim I couldn't read it. On arrival in the restaurant we were met by a pleasant young lady, shown to a table and given menus and again as the lighting was so poor I couldn't read it, the waitress turned up the lighting, to the audible sigh of relief from the other guests. The menu is that of an average pub at lunch time, the highlight being Cottage Pie, not the up market 4 star restaurant I was expecting. My wife choose 2 starters, not able to find a main course to suit, I had a starter and followed with a steak, which was greasy but OK, we did not bother with a dessert. The following morning breakfast was a joke, the staff were hard pushed to cope and we had to wait 30 minutes to place an order another 30 minutes passed before we got served, but the food was inedible and dried probably because it had been kept warm for a few hours, we could not eat it. As it was my wife's birthday and did not want to repeat the agony of the previous night I cancelled my reservation for dinner and booked a local restaurant (which was excellent) On departure I asked for the bill, the receptionist didn't seem to want to print a bill and said she would email a copy and charge my credit card. When I checked my bill I found that I had been charged for the Dinner we did not have and additional unexplained and unauthorised charges were made totalling £90.00 I phoned the hotel and was rudely told to phone back in a few minutes as the person i needed to speak to was busy! I did this and was told that my credit card would be credited for £70.00, which it was I further queried the over charge of £20.00 by email but am yet to receive a reply more than a week on

Thank you for a lovely stay it was wonderful. Staff excellent very friendly and willing to help, food and room excellent. Will definitely recommend the Queens to my friends and hope to visit again sometime.
A fine hotel

A splendid building and perfect location for seeing Regency Cheltenham. Car parking easy at £15 per night. Dogs are welcome at a pricey £30 per night but not allowed in bar or restaurant. Many excellent restaurants close by. On arrival, Alan on reception was exceptional. A super stay and a beautiful place!
