The main reason for my low score was that I had the worst sleep I have ever had at any hotel. Basically the bedding (primarily the duvet) was so lumpy and uncomfortable that I couldn’t sleep. I did get a change of duvet but it was worse than the original one so I ended up sleeping under the bathrobes! The room was adequate and it was clean. The breakfasts were quite acceptable but we had an afternoon tea with our family which was disappointing and the service was poor. The best thing about this hotel is the location, it couldn’t be any better which made our experience all the more disappointing. We stayed here some years ago around Christmas time and we found the hotel quite good then. I did write a letter of complaint to the manager Mr Erol Uray and he did not acknowledge it. So a couple of months later I actually hand delivered a copy of the letter (a receptionists took it) to the hotel and haven’t heard a word sine. Obviously mr Uray thought my letter was not worth a response. I wrote to him because I didn’t really want to write this on Tripadvisor.

Incompetent and irresponsible

A superior room in a 4 star hotel - Shower - no hot water Bathrobe - no slippers Refreshment tray - 3 tiny sachets of instant coffee, a few tea bags, uht milk sachets and 2 dry biscuits One grubby armchair. But more importantly - fire alarm went off at 3.00 am and the staff response was irresponsible. For at least 20 minutes of standing outside no roll call was taken. Many of the guests were elderly and infirm. No evidence of staff support for them. Staff appeared to be out of their depth in handling the situation. I would fear for the safety of guests if a serious fire had occurred. On checking out, no apology for the room’s shortcomings and not a single sympathetic word about the disturbed night.

Stayed here on a short break on the occasion of my wife's birthday, we set off from South Devon quite early with the intention of lunch in Cheltenham, on arrival at the Queens Hotel I was disappointed to learn that it was going to costs me £15.00 per day to park my car at the hotel. At reception I was asked for my credit card and paid a pre-authorisation amount, the bar was closed as was the restaurant at lunchtime. After a pleasant lunch in town we retired to our room which was very pleasant and well laid out. As we had booked dinner for two nights we arrived at the bar for a pre-dinner drinks, the bar tend offered a wine list, but as the lighting was so dim I couldn't read it. On arrival in the restaurant we were met by a pleasant young lady, shown to a table and given menus and again as the lighting was so poor I couldn't read it, the waitress turned up the lighting, to the audible sigh of relief from the other guests. The menu is that of an average pub at lunch time, the highlight being Cottage Pie, not the up market 4 star restaurant I was expecting. My wife choose 2 starters, not able to find a main course to suit, I had a starter and followed with a steak, which was greasy but OK, we did not bother with a dessert. The following morning breakfast was a joke, the staff were hard pushed to cope and we had to wait 30 minutes to place an order another 30 minutes passed before we got served, but the food was inedible and dried probably because it had been kept warm for a few hours, we could not eat it. As it was my wife's birthday and did not want to repeat the agony of the previous night I cancelled my reservation for dinner and booked a local restaurant (which was excellent) On departure I asked for the bill, the receptionist didn't seem to want to print a bill and said she would email a copy and charge my credit card. When I checked my bill I found that I had been charged for the Dinner we did not have and additional unexplained and unauthorised charges were made totalling £90.00 I phoned the hotel and was rudely told to phone back in a few minutes as the person i needed to speak to was busy! I did this and was told that my credit card would be credited for £70.00, which it was I further queried the over charge of £20.00 by email but am yet to receive a reply more than a week on

A splendid building and perfect location for seeing Regency Cheltenham. Car parking easy at £15 per night. Dogs are welcome at a pricey £30 per night but not allowed in bar or restaurant. Many excellent restaurants close by. On arrival, Alan on reception was exceptional. A super stay and a beautiful place!

Going to the Queens

Visiting Cheltenham the Queens is ideal as it is central to the town centre. Very comfortable and the breakfast service was excellent. Dinner is good but unable to get in the second night as it was fully booked.

Disappointing

On arrival the bed looked like it had already been slept in. The mattress topper that was removed was disgustingly stained. The lamp shades were stained and broken. The breakfast was incredibly mean for the price charged and the service haphazard at best.

Anniversary treat

We visited The queens hotel in September to celebrate our anniversary. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was fabulous (Montpellier suite) although we didn’t like the fact that the toilet was open plan instead of enclosed. We only had breakfast which was lovely with plenty of choice. The location is brilliant with beautiful gardens over the road and plenty of restaurants close by. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

It was a absolute pleasure to welcome you for your anniversary and I am very happy to read that you had sucha good time with us. Beautiful place but too noisy

Beautiful place but 'de luxe' room we stayed in would suit anybody who is planning to sleep. Constant noise all through the night, even the windows were shaking at times (double glazing at least would help).

The hotel is located directly on the promenade and is a very popular road and very busy on weekends. We do have rooms with secondary glazing and further plans are in place to do that in more rooms. The hotel it self was lovely,until you get charged an extortionate charge for the car park having already paid a substantial amount for the room. We asked for the room to be cleaned every day in the four nights we stayed it was cleaned once.

Mother and Daughter Birthday Weekend

Perfect short break in Executive Room overlooking the Imperial Gardens. In my view the Queens is THE best hotel in Cheltenham and perfectly placed to explore the town. The room was bright, clean, comfortable and spacious. All the extra in-room amenities had been provided and with the double glazing the room was very peaceful. In-room dining was simple to order and arrived on time. The food quality and portions were perfect. Plenty of seating areas downstairs for drinks from the bar. The staff were polite, friendly and efficient. Express checkout and onsite parking were a bonus. Customer service staff speedily retrieved my mislaid possession (post checkout) and helpfully forwarded it on to my home address.

Legacy hotel

Over priced hotel not giving value for money. More than £300 GPB per night for a simple room with a view of the carpark is not worth it. Obviously living on it's legacy reputation and location in the town centre. Tourists that do not return appear to be the majority of customers. Understaffed with many employees doing multi tasking chores. Local people advised other better quality establishments in the town centre.

Queens Hotel took extra £900 from my Bank account!!

The Queens hotel took an extra £900 out of my bank account on top of the bill of £641. 3 lots of £300 were taken!! So my Bank account is overdrawn and I face charges. Hotel are not much help. Very stressful time for me. Ruined my holiday completel. Will never use M Gallery again. Feel cheated!!

Three day stay and honestly expected more from this hotel. Nice room but furnishings looked like they required cleaning no real writing desk and not very comfortable chairs. Covid restrictions in place but toget replacement towels coffee and milk took 7hours! Expected Victorias restaurant to be good but what they produced as triple cooked chips turned out to be a dark brown soggy mess.

We booked very late at 11pm and last minute (half an hour before we arrived) . They were very kind and helpful l and we had a very good nights sleep. They even changed the duvet for me because the one we had was a bit old. The parking was extremely helpful too. Thank you

Disappointing Weekend Stay

Very disappointing stay to celebrate our anniversary. Breakfast on our actual anniversary was chaotic staff were in a state of confusion and disorder; the Service on that morning exceptionally slow Evening meal on day of our anniversary was again disappointing; food could have been improved upon, we were given the wrong bottle of wine to accompany our meal because we were not shown wine label by our server; by the time we discovered the error it was too late. The breakfasts on following days were an improvement as they should be Servicing of our room did not happen presumably due to Covid restrictions although we would have expected some level of room service for example emptying waste bins and replacement of used crockery or advice on how to get these items attended to. Overall our stay failed to fulfill our hopes or expectations on this very special anniversary

Good stay with one minor niggle

You cannot be anything but impressed with the location and appearance of the Queen’s Hotel. Arrived early and found the car park half empty. Prior to check in which had been moved back to 3pm we decided to take a walk around the locality and loved the parks and small shops. Check in was very quick and we made our way up to our room, an executive room on the second floor (223) and we’re impressed with the size, decor (albeit a small area of wallpaper that wax peeling) and the bathroom amenities. One downside of the room was the lack of any view, in fact the windows were in part frosted and there was a wall about 10ft away. This however didn’t affect our stay and if anything the room was extremely quiet at night. During what was during a hot spell, the air conditioning also worked very well. The building itself is gorgeous, and we genuinely enjoyed walking through it and also sitting in the lounge. We ate breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, Victoria’s on two mornings. The choice and quality of the food was exceptional and you’d be hard pressed to find a better setting. We would have loved to try an evening meal there but had made advance bookings at two local restaurants (there are many good offerings within walking distance) but will definitely try it when we return. The bar also is very good, small but comfortable. Finally, have to mention the staff. To me it’s what sets the hotel apart, not only professional but friendly and accommodating, nothing appearing to be too much trouble. We have no problem recommending the Queen’s Hotel and have already decided to return in the near future.

We had an excellent stay. The hotel lived up to our expectations based on our experience of other MGallery properties. The standard of the hotel is good, the location excellent and the service was attentive. The hotel has a large surface car park.

We had a 2 night stay here on our way back from a Devon and Cornwall break. The hotel is in a fantastic location - right in the middle of Cheltenham and near everything. Every aspect of our 2 night break was perfect - from check in, the room and check out. We will definitely be back
