The location is perfect being in the centre of town. Shops and restaurants are all easily accessible. The breakfast was surprisingly good for the amount we paid.

Very pleasant, nice décor and facilities in the communal areas. Room was a decent size and a great bathroom.

Hotel ok, disappointed with privilege room on 9th floor- no sleep for persistent loud noise all night from the roof area ?? heating /air con. No cold drinks or glasses at all in the room even though described in room details and part of the reason we opted for a privilege room. Informed by staff member on booking that extras included all bathroom necessities yet no shampoo or conditioner & only 1 small shower gel to share. When we arrived at 7pm I was informed that my 13yr old could not use the pool, I specifically asked about this on the day I actually telephoned to enquire about making a booking and explained that we’d arrive at 7 after a long drive and our plan would be to use the facilities that evening. The offer from reception after I complained at check in in regards to this was to compensate me by offering an extra hour of use until 12 noon the next day, we did not feel that we could benefit from this on the day as explained below. Swimming pool at 9.15am onwards was incredibly dangerous I feel and room limits should really of been managed better, I think if you look at your sign in details and count up your numbers for using those facilities you will be aware of my concerns. We left very quickly after entering. Whilst attempting to get changed in a packed changing room we heard 4 ladies who are regular users of the facilities profusely complaining that they also felt that it was unmanaged that day and we’re also leaving earlier than expected because of the ridiculous numbers of guests using it at that time. They also stated that they felt unsafe. I did attempt to discuss this at check out but the queue was large and we put our cards in the box & just left.

Dated rooms, bar closed , great location

We paid to stay in a suite as were supposed to be getting married (so using it for the wedding), despite me emailing to move move reservation a number of times to our new date I had to response. As it was my fault booking the non refundable room we stayed anyway to make a weekend of it. The room had cost £200 a night and we felt very underwhelmed with the quality of the room for that amount. It smelt.of stale smoke and the decor was really dated. Although the view was amazing and the beds were comfortable (think we paid for the location). The second night the hotel had shut their bar because there was only 1 bar staff serving there and the restaurant. Whilst I completely understand this decision, with it being bank holiday weekend the hotel should have planned ahead and had more staff on assuming it would be busy. But again understand this. Apart from this, however, the staff were very accommodating and the hotel was located fab for a city weekend break.

Kevin B. Couples - 04/06/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

The hotel is tired and needs a refit. The bedrooms are gloomy and miserable. The bathroom flooded as the shower was blocked, also they need ripping out. The breakfast was abysmal, not even tea brought to the table, just get it yourself. I paid nearly £200 for 1 night with bar bill and the place is a dive with crap service. Waited 20 minutes in the bar to be served, unbelievable, and the beer was flat. Breakfast was the worst. By the time I had got tea for my wife and I, then got toast, then got buffet breakfast which by this time everything had gone cold. Decided to scrap it, went round the corner to Costa for hot coffee and hot breakfast rolls. Totally disappointed, will never stay at this dump again. My suggestion is give me a full refund before I post it on Google reviews, regards Kevin B..

First trip out since start of pandemic to celebrate wedding anniversary. Stayed at Sheffield St Pauls many times previously and always been satisfied. So much so that we had our Wedding lunch here in 2019. However, St Pauls let themselves down this time. The usually very well stocked bar had only one beer on tap and was closed at 5.30pm due to "too many guests having Dinner". I had also called the hotel a few days earlier to ask if the bar was open as normal and was told it was. Thankfully the rest of Sheffield's many bars and restaurants had got their act together and offered my Wife and I plenty of alternatives. I made the booking via and very much felt like was a second class resident due to this. i.e. Bar closed at 5.30pm as not a Dinner guest, given room at the side of the busy (noisy) lifts and asked to prove the price of the booking from my receipt. Disappointing Mercure! Will be trying your competition next time we have an overnight in Sheffield.

Incredibly disappointing, especially as this was supposed to be a treat after covid lockdown

Firstly, we had booked a junior suite. The room was nice but it wasn't as described. A suite has 2 areas with a separation but this was just a slightly larger room. It really should be marketed better. Secondly, the food was awful. We had a meal included in our package and it was so bad we couldn't eat it. The vegan option was a veggie burger with the brioche bun replaced and the sauces removed. It's just not acceptable any longer to offer such poor vegan food. We ended up going out for dinner instead which defeated the point of having the package including dinner. The good points are the spa which is lovely and the staff who all while busy were friendly and helpful.

Amazing hotel stay.. would definitely re visit the only issue was when we got home realised we should of been offered complimentary bottle for June/july stays which was on our booking confirmation, and never received slightly disappointed as this would of made the stay a 10. just for future if staff can advise of this as I did ask if there was any drinks included and was told no at dinner reservation.

Check in staff lovely but had to queue for 25 mins to check in. Dirty cup in room. 1 cup and 1 glass for 2 people. Tried ringing reception but gave up after 20 minutes, so went down to reception to ask for cups and glasses, this time I queued for 30 minutes. Room tired, walls and carpet marked, paid £154 for executive room, wouldn’t want to see a standard one. Air con does not work, room so hot could not sleep. Faulty extraction fan in bathroom was on permanently, also not good for a good nights sleep. Shower overflowed when turned on, drain completely blocked, had to clear drain ourselves what came out was the most disgusting massive clump of black hairs and gunge. Made us feel sick. Spent ages mopping water up with the towels - after all no point in trying to ring reception.

We shall certainly return to the hotel, to give it a second chance, but next time we hope to see improvements. Hardworking staff were overloaded, so problems that we reported could not be addressed except by moving rooms with no assistance. The rooms are very comfortable and well equipped.

We stayed in a Jr. suite and the cit view was amazing. Staff is very polite and friendly, I definitely recommend this hotel. Only thing we need next time is a sofa bed instead of a cot for my 4 year old :-). Loved the food as well! Happy customer Aditi

fleonard2020 17/11/2020 TripAdvisor review

I had reason to stay here in late Oct early Nov, and the experience was very positive. The staff were extremely friendly, the rooms were well presented, the location is 2nd to none. Sheffiled was in Tier 3 during my stay, and this was very evident with lots of sanitizer stations throughout the hotel. The staff could not be more friendly. Breakfast selection was a little disappointing, but with Covod-19, this is a challenge. I will be back...

Hello fleonard2020, Thank you for a very positive review for the friendly staff, cleanliness and understanding on the restrictions due to COVID. I appreciate the time taken to post the review and the 5* rating across all of the categories. I do hope you will return on the near future and would be delighted if you contacted myself directly before booking. Kind regards, Victoria Hotel Manager
