Don’t waste your money on spa packages!

Sophie D TripAdvisor review

I paid for a Simple Spa Break which should have included a 2 course meal and full use of leisure facilities. Firstly, when I arrived the receptionist who greeted us was rude and very short with us. We then wanted to go down to the spa area but wasn’t told where it was, when we called reception to ask, he would not tell us where it was, he then passed the call onto the spa reception who didn’t answer and the voicemail said they would get back to me in 48 hours, which was no good as we was only there for one night. My partner then called reception again through the hotel phone where the receptionist just said “ground floor”, with no further directions. We decided to not go to the spa on the first day and go down for our “2 course meal” instead. When we arrived at the dining area we were told that we only get a £25 voucher each and that drinks were not included. We weren’t given a drinks menu so we just had to ask the waiter what drinks were/weren’t available. When our food arrived, both of our meals were hardly cooked, apart from my chicken which was burnt. My partners pizza was practically raw as well as my chips. We were disappointed with the service so went out for food instead, which we shouldn’t have to do since our 2 course meal was included. The next day we decided to go to the spa before we checked out. When we got down to the spa area the door to the pool was locked, we were confused but then luckily one of the spa staff told us that we needed to get a code from reception. When I went to the spa reception I was told that I should’ve received a pass from the reception when I checked in and that because I haven’t got a pass I need to pay £10pp the access the spa area. I reluctantly paid the £20 as I wanted to make the most of the weekend away. When we finally got to the pool area we realised that there was a kids swimming lesson in progress which I wasn’t made aware of, this meant that half of the pool was taken up. Overall I am thoroughly disappointed with the experience and feel as though I have wasted £230, as I had to pay again for most of the extras that were meant to be included in my package. I have emailed a complaint but haven’t heard back and it has almost been 2 weeks since our stay!

Disappointed at unexpected charge for pool

Although the room was fine, neither of the lifts were working from the reception when I arrived, which the reception staff weren't aware of. One of the main reasons I'd booked this hotel rather than other city centre ones was to use the pool. I'd asked at the main reception when I checked in about swimming and been told just to go to the pool reception, so I was shocked to arrive there and be told there is now a £10 charge per swim. I have been unable to find this detailed anywhere on the hotel website, even though the receptionist said it was.

frustrating

The room was immaculate and exceptionally roomy. The issue is booking and specifications. I wanted a twin room and boooked on line a month is advanc eof my stay. In between that booking and arrivinf I twice visited the reception desk to seek reassurance around two things;- 1. I wanted early arrival ) I was assure this would be possibel as the hotel was nowhere near full capacity on my Boxing Day arrival. I deally I would arrive at 11.00am and topld reception this fact. 2. I wanteda twin room not a double room. I was assured that this was possible and on they system. I arrived at the hotel on Boxing Day at 11.45am. No room was available. a room was found at 12.20. I was then asked for a £20 surcharge for the facility. No-omne had ever mentioned this in my two visits to the hotel reception earler in December. I refused to pay the fee. On entering the room ( 216) I found two single beds pushed together. Thsi is not what I believe constitutes a twin room. I thus separated them. The issue as I see it is communication; how can teo simple requests- early arrive and two spearte beds -be so complicated to comprehend and facilitate?

Good location, slightly disappointing

All the staff are excellent, warm, friendly and efficient. The room was clean and comfortable and the food at breakfast was of a good standard. However, the public spaces were cold and uncomfortable to be in. Visitors were wearing coats in the bar and in the restaurant for breakfast. We have been staying at this hotel regularly (twice a year) for several years now, and cannot help noticing the drop in facilities. Such as a charge of ten pound per person to use the pool. We were staying for three nights and would have liked to have swam everyday. But the additional forty pounds for spending an hour in the pool each day, was a bit too steep. Also if we drank in the hotel bar small snacks used to be provided, now the only options was to buy crisps at reception for £1.50 a pack.

My favourite hotel
