Refreshing

Lovely grounds and location; was virtually empty - therefore very COVID secure/safe. Staff were very helpful, accommodating and professional. My room was recently refurbished - so was spotless, fresh and modern. Good food - including breakfast. All round fantastic stop.

Disappointing, expensive

We had booked this weekend as a birthday treat for me. Therefore my husband booked the most expensive room - feature room. For two nights stay bed and breakfast this came to nearly £400. I had booked in online prior to arrival to speed up arrival only to be told by the receptionist that the 'online interface did not work with their system so we had to fill forms in on arrival'. I was asked if the booking was for one night, and said no, it was for two. Yes of course, said the receptionist. However, on the second day on returning to our room we could not get in, and I had to go back to reception to have two new cards approved. The room (number 41) was not a special room at all, the sofa and chairs had no cushions and it was impossible to sit comfortably - you either needed to sit back to support your back and then the feet were not on the floor, or if feet were on the floor there was no support and we both had back ache - we are both over 5' 6" tall so not short people. The mini bar was sparsely equipped - one bad of crisps and one packet of two biscuits, 3 pods for the coffee machine, and a couple of bottles of water and two cans of drink. The worst part of the whole experience was the bathroom - the bathroom on line showed a walk in shower, beautifully tiled all over - this bathroom was a bath with shower over (the shower screen was a joke - it was the wrong screen for a bath with the taps at the right hand end - the large part of the screen was fixed and the 6" panel was the only part that moved to access the shower. The window was an old metal window with plastic stuck over the glass, there was no window covering (eg blind) and it was very cold. Breakfast was very mediocre - hot buffet with all food sitting cooking - the sausages were of poor quality and the eggs were like rubber. Overall this was a very disappointing stay and feel that our room and the service we received from reception staff was poor, and ruined out weekend.

I advised when booking that I was coeliac, therefore gluten free for breakfast. I arrived in the evening wanting something light to eat. I asked for the allergy list for the menu, but the staff didn't have one. As far as I am aware this is a legal requirement. I do not consider in chains such as this that a waitress asking the chef what is safe for me to eat, and then re-laying that there's nothing on the menu that they consider safe, but "I am sure he can rustle something up for you" really doesn't wash, and makes me very unwilling to risk whether the chef actually has a clue. I didn't eat.

I stayed in a Feature Room/Suite. On arrival at the hotel, I noted that there was a function on downstairs. At 9pm, having eaten in the restaurant, I went back to my room as I had an early start the next day. Shortly afterwards, extremely loud music started being played directly below my room. It got louder still, with bass that vibrated the floor, and was accompanied by a lot of shouting and laughing from the function guests. I called reception and asked how long the event would go on, as I needed to be up early. I was told that it was scheduled to finish at midnight. The staff member was very courteous and apologised for the noise but was unable to offer an alternative room which would not be a downgrade. As I had unpacked a lot of things including medical equipment, I chose to remain where I was. The very loud noise continued for the next few hours, with guests spilling out of the function room and onto the bottom of the stairwell, shouting and singing. Eventually, at around the promised time, the guests did begin to leave. I then heard the staff clearing up, clattering plates and glasses as they did so. It was well after 1am when I finally got to sleep. I have stayed in this hotel before and know that it has a separate function building. Events held in this building have not disturbed me at all, save for hearing a small amount of noise outside when the guests are leaving. It baffles my why, when a separate building is available, the hotel would choose to hold a very noisy event in the main hotel building, directly below its most expensive room type. If this happens in future, it would be prudent to advise anyone booked into the suite, so that they have the choice whether to retain their booking or move to a quieter location in advance.

Overall I thought the stay at teh hotel was good. Rooms were comfortable and clean and very nice shower. The bar/communal areas were nice with plesant and attentive staff. My only negative comment (which could be easily resolved) is to do something about the bedroom doors. Everyone time someone went into/out of their bedrooms and doors would slam shut. We had come away for a chilled girls weekend and I was not thrilled at being woken by other guests unintentionally slamming their doors. Door closers shoudl be fitted so to reduce the noise. If the hotel did this I would definitely return

Booked dinner, bed and breakfast package through groupon. The room was really nice and had everything we needed for our overnight stay. The spa facilities were good and all Staff were pleasant and helpful. The disappointment came with dinner. Apparently we should have reserved a slot before we got there, but how would we know this? So the only slots left were at 6.15pm or from 9pm onwards! We didn't enjoy our meals and thought the balance was wrong in proportionality. Being vegetarian, I chose a starter with tomato, pesto and mozzarella, what I got was a bowl overloaded with chopped tomato, with three really small mozzarella balls and a squirt of pesto. My main meal was a cauliflower steak (a piece of fried cauliflower) & asparagus which was ok but that was all that was on the plate with a bit of sauce. Still felt hungry afterwards but desserts were not inviting. Maybe I should have eaten the full bowl of tomato at the start! Overall we had an ok stay, but we won't be back unfortunately.

the hotel and staff are lovely . There was a green light in the room on the first night which meant I did not sleep , but the maintenance man fixed it the next day . One thing I would say is , if there are 2 guests in a room , maybe put 2 snack in the room . The hotel is clean friendly and I would stay again .

I had a problem when I was double booked, Christine was superb in sorting it out, Mohammed and Abdul are also great. I had to leave very early one morning and asked for some fruit, I was blown away by the way Mohammed and Abdul looked after me. Great people it’s why I keep going back

The bedding was disgusting. There was a hole in duvet cover and sheet. There were staines on sheet, pillow and duvet cover. Reported o reception but as it was around 11pm it was too late to change bedding. Was offered another room but again it was very late and we had a very early start. Room 102

Slightly disappointed on arrival to find the spa was in a different building, not ideal on a cold wet day. No stairs to rooms, though i didnt check website to see if this was the case. room 48 was quite small. heater didnt work but staff were quick to change us to another room (husband in cancer recovery and doesnt like the cold) so cant fault that. although a spa hotel only 10 beds/deck chairs around pool. steak in restaurant was returned twice as not cooked BUT taste amazing once done. Overall lovely break and hubby would happily return.

Dear Ann, We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Mercure Brandon Hall Hotel & Spa Warwickshire. We offer our apologies for the disappointment, the spa was built following the addition of the bedrooms by the previous ownership and this was not taken into consideration, leading to guests having to walk outside to gain access. We do have lift access to our bedrooms again this was added in a second phase of extension after the first in the 1970’s. It’s a pleasure to read the team where able to rectify an issue with regards to the room heating, as well as the steak for dinner. Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we hope your next visit will be as pleasant as the previous one. Sincerely, Nick Byrne Operations Manager Mercure Brandon Hall Hotel and Spa

Nice facilities, questionable staff

Abigail Couples - 04/03/2020 Confirmed reviews ALL

My partner and I booked through buyagift.com as a birthday present given to me for my 21st birthday. I was made to feel small by staff when asking questions, due to having limited details booking through 3rd party. Facilities were lovely - room was spacious and cleaned well, restaurant was large and menu inclusive. My main downfall was general staff treating me as if I don't belong. I am a petite 21 year old, with my 22 year old partner arriving for our first weekend away, hoping for a spa relaxation trip only to be given know details and looked at disappointingly when asking questions I should CLEARLY already know the answer to but was never informed. Wish staff were a little less judgemental.

Dear Abigail, We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Mercure Brandon Hall Hotel & Spa Warwickshire. It is a pleasure to read that you enjoyed our facilities and bedrooms during your stay but felt let down by the front office team. Please accept my sincere apologies for the way in which you and your partner were treated by our front office team when asking questions. I shall ask our front office manager to investigate this further and also ensure that the team give the correct information out when a guest arrives. Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we hope your next visit will be as pleasant as the previous one. Sincerely, Nick Byrne Operations Manager Mercure Brandon Hall Hotel and Spa
