Lovely grounds and location; was virtually empty - therefore very COVID secure/safe. Staff were very helpful, accommodating and professional. My room was recently refurbished - so was spotless, fresh and modern. Good food - including breakfast. All round fantastic stop.

We had booked this weekend as a birthday treat for me. Therefore my husband booked the most expensive room - feature room. For two nights stay bed and breakfast this came to nearly £400. I had booked in online prior to arrival to speed up arrival only to be told by the receptionist that the 'online interface did not work with their system so we had to fill forms in on arrival'. I was asked if the booking was for one night, and said no, it was for two. Yes of course, said the receptionist. However, on the second day on returning to our room we could not get in, and I had to go back to reception to have two new cards approved. The room (number 41) was not a special room at all, the sofa and chairs had no cushions and it was impossible to sit comfortably - you either needed to sit back to support your back and then the feet were not on the floor, or if feet were on the floor there was no support and we both had back ache - we are both over 5' 6" tall so not short people. The mini bar was sparsely equipped - one bad of crisps and one packet of two biscuits, 3 pods for the coffee machine, and a couple of bottles of water and two cans of drink. The worst part of the whole experience was the bathroom - the bathroom on line showed a walk in shower, beautifully tiled all over - this bathroom was a bath with shower over (the shower screen was a joke - it was the wrong screen for a bath with the taps at the right hand end - the large part of the screen was fixed and the 6" panel was the only part that moved to access the shower. The window was an old metal window with plastic stuck over the glass, there was no window covering (eg blind) and it was very cold. Breakfast was very mediocre - hot buffet with all food sitting cooking - the sausages were of poor quality and the eggs were like rubber. Overall this was a very disappointing stay and feel that our room and the service we received from reception staff was poor, and ruined out weekend.
Beautiful stay, staff were incredible

I advised when booking that I was coeliac, therefore gluten free for breakfast. I arrived in the evening wanting something light to eat. I asked for the allergy list for the menu, but the staff didn't have one. As far as I am aware this is a legal requirement. I do not consider in chains such as this that a waitress asking the chef what is safe for me to eat, and then re-laying that there's nothing on the menu that they consider safe, but "I am sure he can rustle something up for you" really doesn't wash, and makes me very unwilling to risk whether the chef actually has a clue. I didn't eat.
