A little disappointed really. The hotel lobby and entrance looks fab, and the Christmas deco really livened up the place. The ground floor level was really good. The rooms however, were really tired and dated with bottoms of doors paint flaking, cupboard doors lopsided and generally very dated. On saying that, perfectly comfortable but for a 4 star expected and have had much better. Breakfast was disappointing with limited hot food, fried eggs only, no mushrooms, and Bacon that was dried out completely. Might have been because we did not eat until 09:00 but that's an hour before breakfast finished. Again, it was edible and generally acceptable, but for £22.00 a head and in a 4 star hotel, just expected better. The location of the hotel was ideal (which is why i chose this Hotel) just a short stroll from the city centre and Cathedral. Parking was a nightmare here, with general joe public able to use the car park which was not advised (Parking my car is a real important feature for me). You are really lucky if you can get a place to park! All in all we had a good couple of days away but expected that little bit more from the Hotel.

Terrible Terrible stay. Thank goodness for reception staff who tried their best. Room was freezing cold, bed was so uncomfortable, no pillow protectors so just stained yellow pillows. Sofa in the room was uncomfortable and the room was not clean. 3rd night we were moved. Room was much better. Swimming pool was cold. Just shocking stay and have stayed at the hotel a lot. Could not fault the staff.

Good stay in difficult circumstances

When I checked in I was advised there was no hot water in taps. Central heating and kitchens not affected. I was given some alternatives such as transfer to another hotel or significant financial compensation. I chose the latter as the location of the Southgate was important for nearness to venue of event I was leading the next day. Lack of piped hot water wasn't a problem as use of kettle provided hot water for basin. It was a good stay with tasty food and good wine. Staff handled the situation very well.

I booked 3 rooms with your hotel Mercure Southgate for the above date for our Annusl Xmas get together! The hotel was absolutely fabulous and what we wanted for our weekend break! Unfortunately we were very dismayed to find that the water was cold and some had cold showers and some didn’t shower at all which was disappointing! 😩 Also some used the pool which was also cold so others didn’t even go in. Freezing cold but helpful staff

Staff were all consistently helpful but the heating wasnt working in my room so I felt very cold at night and in morning.
