Very smart hotel situated conveniently for all attractions in Exeter. Staff particularly helpful, especially Page on reception, who made our stay exellent with her local knowledge and expert, professional assistance.

Enjoyed our visit to Exeter but will not be staying in the Mecure Hotel next times.

NGWTopspin Couples - TripAdvisor review

Great location for Exeter City centre and the quay. All the bar and reception staff were friendly and helpful and if I were to rate these people alone I would have given a 4 or 5 star review, they made us feel very welcome. However, despite their best efforts they could not compensate for this very tired hotel in urgent need of refurbishment. Rotting, ill fitting window frames, Dated badly worn furnishings and dirty. The window cills were filthy, a dead wasp and dead fly had not been cleared before our arrival. My main gripe is that despite e-mailing pictures of the dirty window cills to the hotel, no manager had the courtesy to respond. Had management handled this well I would not be writing this review. Excellent staff but dreadful maintenance

I really feel sorry for the excellent staff who must be fighting against all odds to keep the clients happy. We arrived last Friday and were checked into room 14 on the ground floor. The walls were stained and scratched and had greasy hand marks on them, the carpet was filthy and the furniture was very badly worn and the light fittings were crooked. We went to reception and asked the duty manager Jake to come take a look at the room. Jake was suitably embarrassed and agreed that the room was not suitable for guests. He moved us to a "privilege" room on the second floor. This was somewhat better. At least the walls were reasonably clean and the carpet was a dark enough colour not to be able to see whether it was clean or not. The curtains were worn and torn and again the furniture was worn and the bedside lamps were leaning every way but upright. The air conditioning did not work and the beds were very uncomfortable. However it seems that room 248 was the best possible in this hotel. I suppose the hotel has four stars for the facilities it offers, but certainly the rooms are nowhere near the standard they should be. This would almost be ok if the prices were low, but we paid 350 euros for the two nights without breakfast which is not cheap for what is offered. I will probably visit Exeter again as I enjoyed the stay and it is a very easy trip from Alicante. However I will certainly not stay at this hotel again.

I’ve stay many times per year in this hotel. The pool etc was once inc in the price now not ,, the hygiene of the room not up to it’s usual standard ie hair on carpet on arrival and throughout our stay even though we let reception know.

Initial impressions were good…

On arrival I was impressed with the hotel, the receptionist was friendly and helpful my room on the face of it seemed ok. Went to the pool which was also lovely. All was good until I pulled the curtains which were absolutely filthy and stained. Such a shame because up till then I was pleasantly surprised and thought that the negative reviews weren’t justified. I mean I’m sure that the manager of this hotel cannot think that curtains this filthy is acceptable!
