The good size hotel room is comfortable, with adequate circulation space for 2 adults and luggage fully opened on the floor. The large King size bed was firm and provided a sound sleep. The size of writing desk was suitable for proper work to be done. I travelled with my laptop, DSLR and hard drive. The table top was spacious enough for me to work on my photos. The bathroom features a shower tray with a partial glass panel. I am not a fan of this shower layout. The tray is shallow and does not drain away the water fast enough. Further, the water spray spills out on to the bathroom floor. Notwithstanding, the slightly raised shower tray is still better and safer when compared to stepping out of a bathtub after a shower. The restaurant is spacious. Buffet breakfast provided a full European-style selection and satisfied us until our next meal at dinner. A short walk from the hotel leads to shops and restaurants along South Street and Exeter Cathedral. During our stay, parts of the cathedral's facade was under improvement works. The interiors were accessible and they are very impressive and definitely worth a visit.

Okay but rather stay somewhere else

Food in the evening was decidedly average. In fact I’d describe it as similar to what I got at school in the 1970’s. Breakfast the following morning was rather nice, basic sausage, bacon, baked beans & eggs, but all fresh and tasty despite being on hotplates. The room was comfortable, bed okay, bathroom fine with a nice shower. But the decor is awful and re-decorating is clearly required. It didn’t help that making my way to the room involved wading through a large puddle in the carpet from some unknown leak. Staff that I spoke to at reception, bar & breakfast were all pleasant & helpful. Unfortunately housekeeping ignored the do not disturb, appears to be a rush to get people out and clean the rooms, Personally I’d try somewhere else if I visited the area again.

Great stay

Lovely hotel in great location and our Privilege room was fabulous!

Lovely hotel & our room (249) was just perfect. A privilege room with lovely view over trees, quiet & well equipped (Nespresso machine, drinks & nibbles in the fridge, lovely bathroom, huge bed, lovely toiletries etc). We were very touched by the personalised anniversary card & drinks vouchers, thank you so much! The breakfast was great - all fresh & delicious. Great that it’s open until 11am at the week end and that check out is at 12, we didn’t feel rushed. We didn’t use the pool so can’t comment on that but main areas are really nice, nice decor etc. Drink selection in the bar was great and quite busy/atmospheric in the evening. The car park is charged at £15 for 24 hours but it’s safe & easy to use with loads of free spaces. You can walk to the cathedral and all the shops/restaurants in 5 mins. We’ll definitely return, thank you for making our stay feel special.
