We stayed at the Mercure, Cardiff a few years ago & decided to revisit for a 3 night stay. We were disappointed with how ‘tired’ the hotel looked, not as we remembered it. Carpets worn in the hallways, paint scrapped or bubbled on doors, grout missing in the bathroom, toilet roll holder loose & toilet seat moved when sat on. Had to ask for more toilet rolls. When we arrived the safe was showing low battery, we called reception 4 times in a 15 minute time span with no answer. We called on our mobile from an outside line & it was answered within the 1st call, no apologies when told that we had tried on the internal line. Maintenance were prompt in changing the battery. Reception was hardly manned & apart from the lovely staff in the breakfast area, we would not have had any friendly contact with the staff. Reception was not welcoming when we arrived. Also had an email a few days before our stay, asking if we would like to have a room upgrade for a small charge & have bubbles in our room on arrival. As it was for a special occasion we decided to take the Mercure up on both offers & had a pop up saying that the staff would look into our requests.. Two days into our stay we received an email saying that this wasn’t possible! Why offer it if not available, they knew when we arriving & departing. Breakfast was good, plenty of choices & again the staff here were very friendly.

Pretty poor, staying 2 nights to attend event in the hotel. Arrived rooms not ready, no problem comp drinks offered. Rooms very good size, wheelchair could not get over shower tray therefore not a wheelchair accessible room really - room 501. Only 1 pillow each? A/C wonderful. Breakfast poor quality very small eggs and small, hard sausages, all luke warm no choice of differently cooked eggs? Dinner 3 course £20 small portions for main course, quality better than breakfast. Bar ran out of guiness, brandy, cider and very limited on what was available. KNOWING OF AN EVENT ORDER EXTRA - long life span! TERRIBLE the staff were put under unnecessary pressure due to lack of management efficiency. Knowing hotel full for weekend CATER accordingly its not rocket science! I used to run a pub so know what I'm talking about.

the bars were very very poor we were there for a hall of fame event and ran out of drink . this should never have happened there was at least 500 people there . we had dinner 2 nights in your restaurant it the service was terrible waited so long for food . we definitely wouldn’t go back

We had high hopes for a great evening meal in your restaurant but we’re left waiting for our food for over an hour and a half from ordering. This was on top of our room not being ready when we arrived, there being no parking available, questionable cleanliness in one of the rooms and a very grimy looking swimming pool. If you are going to upsell your customers to half-board, please make sure it’s a good experience. We were thoroughly disappointed.

Staff were brilliant, however, whilst having dinner i witnessed a clandestine exchange between two fitness guy's. This is while children are present. Not what you expect to see at a gym. But overall a really good establishment.

We were staying for a long weekend for a stag do. Mercure were accommodating for stag do's and we booked for rooms. There was parking under the building at £16 per day which was convenient. On arrival one of the rooms we were allocated had a horrific drain smell. We made reception aware of this and they put us in a lower floor room with not as good a view as the original room. Not sure how the last person to clean the room did not make the manager aware of the fact the room smelt of open drains. Maybe highlights a possible issue with communication in the hotel. Rooms were a good size with plenty of cupboard space. The bathrooms were modern and clean. The staff were helpful and friendly The breakfast buffet was good and plentiful. The pool facilities were good it really made the stay, it was great being able to have a swim and use the steam room and sauna. The hotels location was amazing right in the centre of Cardiff. The beer/ales options at the bar were poor but not the end of the world. I would definaetly stay here again and would recommend the hotel.

Everything about the room was so dated and run down. The quality and finish of the decor had a lot to be desired. The disgustingly dirty windows made a difficult view all that worse (and half the dirt was on the inside!) Our room smelt like sick! We were given a ‘free upgrade’ on our room due to poor service in the booking stages but I have no idea what this entailed as we appear to have less than advertised. No robes, no slippers, extremely basic tea tray. The very large bed was two singles pushed together which made the join uncomfortable in the middle. The spa was free to use however the pool was FREEZING. We couldn’t use it and even heard members complaining. The biggest shock was that across the two days every single member of staff was so disinterested I have no idea how it’s a 4 star hotel! The reception staff especially has zero customer service skills or interest in doing anything but the bare minimum. During checkout we asked to leave our bag in the cloakroom. We had done this on check in and we’re given a ticket to put our suitcase in a locked cloak room. The receptionist asked us to leave our bag in the corner and she would take this to the cloak room after she had finished typing whatever she was doing and assured me we wouldn’t need a ticket. We returned 7 hours later to find my suitcase laying on the floor in an unattended reception area!!! I will never ever stay with the Mercure again. Considering this is meant to be one of the most prestigious hotels in Cardiff, I’d rather have stayed at home.

I arrived for an event being held at this venue. I booked a room for 2 nights but decided to leave after 1 night. The room was a nice room but not very clean. The sofa and carpets had longe blond hairs on them and the smell of damp in the shower was not very nice. Whilst at the event the food was very tasty but also very cold. Starter was (soup) just warm, mains almost cold and my desert (sticky toffee pudding) was colder than the ice cream it was served with. Not being someone to usually complain, I just checked out the following morning only to be told that the second night would still be charged in full. This is somewhere that I don't think I would use again.

Air con didn't work and the shower was dangerous. Me and husband scolded a few times due to the dial not staying put. We reported it in the eve and instead of apologies from front of desk and concern (imagine i had a baby or small child in the shower ?!) I was told the maintenance guy wasn't in until morning and I could have a fan instead.... I then insisted on a new room. Which we had at 9.30pm. Breakfast was also poor. Dry and old crossiants and old coffee. People waited 10 mins for white bread.

Had a very enjoyable two night stay. We were lucky to get an upgrade to one of the penthouse rooms which was delightful, had fantastic views from the 15th floor. We ate dinner in the restaurant and breakfast, had excellent service with these, and the food was good. Staff are really efficient and pleasant. Some changes around breakfast service, due to Covid but all in keeping with the current pandemic and practical. Used the Spa facilities, good sized pool for a city hotel. Numbers in steam and sauna reduced, again due to covid, we understood this and were glad it was open for us to use. Hotel very close to city centre, which is great for shopping and site seeing. We did a walking tour with Fogo tours which was a great way to learn more about this lovely city. One negative, £16.00 parking per night charge is pretty steep but we paid for the convenience, at least it was easy to park.

The hotel is in an excellent location for all of Cardiff. The facilities are brilliant with gym, pool and spa all available to guests. The customer service is excellent with all staff so willing to make the stay as easy and welcoming as possible. (Sunjan was particularly helpful with any questions I had)
