Shower was to hot to wash soap off, no way we could turn it down. Not great. Stayed in room 707 & left a card in there, house keeping didn’t hand the card over so must of stole the money. Surely you have cctv or a check in sheet so you can check with the person who cleaned our room. Will not trust or stay here again.

Excellent friendly staff, comfortable rooms, good food...great breakfast !

For 120 a night it was shocking to have a cocain party above my room. I had no sleep all night because of the noise from that group of druggies. Nevef again will I stay at your hotel. Nor any of our employees.

I was disappointed with the standard of service from bar and restaurant staff. Waiters kicking the door open to the kitchen is not a good look. Very young staff that need training before being let loose on the public. Seemed to do what was convenient for themselves rather than what the customer required. A good example is one evening when my wife asked for a refill of her gin in the same Gin glass. The waiter returned with a wine glass. When asked why his response was “that’s what we do here”. Maybe it’s policy to ignore customer requests but that is for Mercury to answer.

No hot water on arrival and dirty bed

On arrival we had no hot water. There was no cot in the room as requested. One was given to us and it was broken, held together by cable ties. The new cot didn’t seem to be very comfortable with little to no mattress. We subsequently found short and long hairs in the bed! This made us look closer at the cleanliness of the room and found thick dust on all top surfaces except the cabinet / furniture tops. The receptionist changed the bedding for us. We did not have hot water until the following afternoon. Upon check out, we was offered a 20% discount on the first night which was quite insulting but then was offered a 50% discount which I later accepted.

The staff were excellent with the exception of the reception on arrival, one being quite rude. Also I booked twin rooms and was given double rooms.

We arrived at the hotel at 10pm on Saturday evening and the Family room allocated to us at check-in was directly above a wedding reception. The room was accessed via the area the wedding guests were using which seemed odd. Once inside the room, it was clear that the room was unacceptable for a family to sleep in due to the volume of noise from below. The walls and floor were vibrating from the bass coming from the speakers and the volume was excessive. Reception advised they would ask for the music to be turned down but no difference was apparent. We checked out after only 15 minutes as there was no way we could settle and sleep with the noise in the room. We then had to wait until late on Monday for the hotel to authorise Expedia to refund the cost of the stay due to there apparently not being anyone with authority to do so in the hotel until that time. We've been advised it could be up to 10 days before the refund comes through. This was our first booking in a Mercure hotel and it has put us off using this brand again. The C. service has been poor and it's disappointing that nobody will acknowledge that it was not fair to allocate a family a room in this area. We ended up driving back to Scotland late at night instead of having a nice relaxing stay to break up our journey from London so it really spoiled the end of our holiday. Very dissatisfied.

Not without issues

We had a pleasant stay but there were issues with the rooms.The first room allocated had no telephone and a refrigerator that had been removed from it’s cupboard standing unplugged by the wall. Second room had no refrigerator and then on second day we had a failure in the hot water supply. The hotel tried to fix it but couldn’t. We have stayed here for many years but the refurbishments have obviously had issues. In general the hotel’s standards have declined with the exception of the restaurant manager Aziz who is always very professional and helpful. The management did refund £40 for our inconvenience and hopefully will address the maintenance and quality issues they have.

Lovely room. Staff friendly. We were not made aware of having to register our car on arrival so still so not know if we are going to get a fine which is a worry, check in staff should highlight this to guests. No hot water one day so had to boil the kettle for a wash staff did take 20% off that nights stay because of this & appologised.

Second stay just as bad

This is my second stay only because of the stamp auction. To call yourself a 4/5 star Hotel is just wrong. There is NEVER anyone at reception and when they do arrive there is never a oh sorry to keep you waiting. When you check in you never get told where any of the facilities are. I was in room 18.....please have a look at the mould on the floor...I wish I could send photos. Can you please contact me for photos of the room to see how appalled I was. Yes I was given a 50% discount however this room should not have been available at all.

Just a few minor points . We had four rooms all in the Courtyard, the smell of drains inside the room was quite overwhelming. Two rooms had cold water for at least ten minutes before any hot water came through. Lack of coat hangers ( did mention some points rather minor) . Waited rather a long time for service and clearance in dining room and to get wine lists . Staff however exceptionally pleasant. ( maybe a little more training required)

For us this is a perfect location for an overnight stay enroute to the lakes very peaceful good food and above all excellent staff. The rooms are warm and clean this was our second visit and another already booked for next month.
