We stayed in room no 2 which is a very nice big room but allocated on the ground floor next to the lifts. We have been unlucky as some guests met in the space in front of our room and talked for ages very and I guess have just been unaware that there was a room. It spoiled the stay but the breakfast the next morning made up for it. Generally a good place to stay in York.

Location was great, very close to the train station and to the main bit of York. Staff were friendly and welcoming, the room was clean and the bed was very comfy. Breakfast was great, loads of options and all up to temperature. You can tell the staff have adapted great to manage with coronavirus :)

It was a fairly last minute booking so was pleased to see a decent deal could still be had. I don’t normally go for a 2 star hotel but was pleasantly surprised overall. Checkin was easy and breakfast included which had to be booked at that point. Staff were friendly and helpful too. The room was clean and bed comfortable, although a little basic and lacked the nicer touches but was functional and for the price was worth it. The only downside was the shower. The water pressure was quite low and temperature kept going from too hot to cold. The shower head was quite dirty too. It would also have been nice to have some sort of glass for water. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise. A decent spread with hot food options, croissants, cereal and toast. The Coffe, although from a machine was actually pretty good. The hotel was very covid safe with things in place to keep it clean. I thought the little signs on the tables at breakfast we’re a great idea. (Flip it over once you’ve eaten and it lets everyone know it’s not a clean table, so not to be used) overall a decent stay. Perfect location for the train station and city centre

A bit of a yes and no this one. We arrived to be greeted by a lovely young lady, very polite and apologetic as the laundry was very late and still hadn't arrived so they couldn't make up the rooms. Offered a complimentary drink. Lovely lady. Not her fault Once we eventually got into the room we had a dodgy telly. Let the same lovely lady know and she sorted it ASAP for us. Love the idea that you can pay for breakfast as you go as my partner doesn't always eat breakfast. Now to the downside... the very rude and impolite older man who was on duty on the night of Wednesday 28th. Not only was he very rude when talking with us, he completely ignored us waiting at the bar and went onto serve a lady who had turned up at least 5 minutes after us. The way he asked did we want a drink was very rude and not very welcoming. He put ice into the glass with his hands when there were ice scoops literally a small reach away and he had just come back from what looked like being outside... didn't even wash or sanitise his hands until he got to putting it through the till. And to top it off, last orders is 11pm in the bar, he proceeded to start turning off the bar lights when there were people still sat in that part and there were at least 3/4 other couples in the bar with more arriving. He was just not very welcoming or very informative when talking with the customers. Good location, good breakfast, served the purpose or what we wanted.

Well located but poor room standards

Whilst the location was great, and staff were very friendly and accommodating, the car park is chargeable and extremely tight. The room is sub standard and whilst I appreciate that external temperatures were high, we needed to check out a day early as we couldn’t tolerate the room temp any longer. Windows barely open and no air con.

Noisy and uncomfortable

My stay wasn't pleasant, the staff were great, the room, not so much. The beds were uncomfortable and only one pillow was provided. We were situated right above the entrance which is right next to a main road which made sleeping difficult as we could hear traffic most of the night. The floor didn't look clean at all, there were stains on it.

I paid for what you described as a ' superior ' room at £177 + for two nights stay at Ibis York. I'd stayed there before in 2016 I think and had been very satisfied . The things we were disappointed in were : No cups to make a drink , No glass or container to rinse in the bathroom , twin beds very narrow 2'6" wide , No chair in the room so people had sat on the side of the bed making it slope on the side. No Wifi which was a feature mentioned. In all, the room was in no way ' superior '. In fact, I have considered demanding a refund for this as the Hotel is a budget accommodation and the room was only basic .

Very disappointing. We walked in our room and there was rubbish on the floor, went down to reception to complain and was then put into a smaller room. It was a really hot summers day, the windows didn’t open and reception wouldn’t give us a fan. Couldn’t sleep and as a result was very tired the next day. Will be thinking twice about staying at an ibis again.

The hotel is in poor condition and needs updated. The air conditioning has been removed and a fan was provided, totally useless. Rooms not serviced , unless requested. Basically not good value, this is by far the worst Ibis hotel I have stayed in. I mid this had been my first visit to an ibis hotel then it would have been my last. The sink was chipped and cracked the grouting was disgusting. Covid is not an excuse for this. I was told the AC had been romped due to Covid, a weak excuse. I will choose my hotels with much more care in the future. Some of your ibis hotels have been very good, but sadly this has put me off

After scratching my car in the terribly tight hotel car park it was lovely to be greeted with such a kind and friendly receptionist! The room itself was ok and the beds were comfortable. Really nice to be able to open a window on such a hot day. The bathroom was tired but serviceable. Good location so overall not bad.

A good base but the hotel is looking dated and shabby round the edges. Very hot weather so a decent sleep not helped by a window with security lock and which needed to be propped open to prevent it sliding down. The staff were all friendly and seemed keen to make our stay as pleasant as possible.

I have stayed here many times and always ask for the same room 301. The staff are always helpful and friendly. However, the room, and I suspect, many others, are just not equipped for high temperatures. It was almost unbearable and I asked for a fan. The first one was not working properly and then I was given a tiny desk top one which did absolutely nothing to help. I noticed on Trip Advisor that the heat had been mentioned before and the Manager said that he had purchased fans. Well, a proper sized fan placed in the room before arrival would have been very useful........ Obviously the windows were open all the time, and consequently, this meant noise from the air con units of the Hotel de Vin and fellow guests being noisy very late at night and in the early hours. I was there for 4 nights so there was a variety of guests! I have always liked this hotel, its budget, but its clean and perfect location. Sadly the lack of investment in fans or even air con (which it clearly used to have as there was a unit in my room) spoilt this trip and I just wont stay again. Sorry. I guess it would be fine in the winter though!!

Staff on general very pleasant and helpful - esp member of Reception staff (Ava? Eva? Pos Polish and wore her dark hair in a ponytail) who learnt my breakfast choices and anticipated them! She was lovely and always very friendly. Had to complain about another member of staff - young, hair in short ponytail- who was on reception duty the night if the Workd Cup Final. My TV wasn't working and he refused to cone and sort it claiming that it would need to wait until the next day because "government policy' meant that he needed to be 'suited up' in PPE - something that turned out to be completely untrue. It was put down for a maintenance check the next day instead. The following day, when I mentioned the probs at Reception, the member of staff said she would check that my TV was working now right enough ' to save you having to go up the stairs and come back again' I expressed surprise given the conversation the previous evening. She explained that as long as I was not in the room at the same time, it was fine. Exasperated, I said that I'd suggested that the previous evening! Clearly the ponytailed staff member wasn't wanting to be taken away from the football.
