Great location and service but not value for money

I have stayed here on a few occasions and for a while have thought the hotel needs a refurbishment as it’s looking dated. However if was very clean and no real issues apart from one of the lifts being broken which meant getting anywhere took ages and there wasn’t an out of order sign to be seen! Obviously the location is ideal for flying out of Gatwick as it’s literally connected to the north terminal. However the price is really poor value for money in my opinion especially given the cost of food and drink as well…. £170 a night and then £30-50 per person for dinner and a drink it really starts to add up. Bar service was not very good and wasn’t clear if it was table service or not, our drinks got spilt by the waiting staff. So For one room with our food and drink it came to £278 for a single night

Disappointed to find that a chair was not provided for the small circular table in the room. Curious what one is supposed to sit on when working or having a meal. The excuse provided was that the hotel was under renovations and no chairs were available --ridiculous !! However on my request a metal soft chair (perhaps from the conference room) was provided. Otherwise my stay at the hotel was good.

We had booked a superior room but was very disappointed as we couldn’t see any difference at all to the basic room that we had stayed in before - refillable toiletries were all missing - only three small toiletries available- food was nice but expensive- we weren’t told we can have 10% off our food and drink so we missed out on that - overall experience disappointing- we are staying at Gatwick airport at the beginning of June and have decided to stay elsewhere

The room was excellent and the service was berry good only down side was the lounge access. We were told that 5-8 would be canapés and from 8 cheese and crackers but there was only canapés and very little of that was on offer. I thin there was only a couple of samosas and nuts on offer the whole time.

Nice building, clean & functional. Crazy rate for the size of the room. Comfy bed and clean room with good quality shampoos etc but they don’t justify the price. Car parking cost is crazy. Hotel bar with very limited choice of drinks closes at 1130 whereas Premier Inn next door has are far better bar with more atmosphere and open to 0030. You pay for the location but if all you want is good nights sleep before a trip there are better vfm options - if your company is paying for it then fine but it’s nothing special.

Not the best Sofitel

Not the best Sofitel I have stayed in and stayed in plenty. There is no warning on the website that the lounge was closed and yes there was an alternative venue for the evening but it is noisy from the ground floor outlets and not overly relaxing. That said the hostess that evening was absolutely outstanding.

We enjoyed an early meal at Vanda and then had a couple of hours sleep before checking in at 03.30. The Sofitel is perfectly placed to catch an early flight and we park our car for the duration of the stay. All worked perfectly.

Overnight stay and holiday car park

Comfortable and clean ( and quiet room) for our overnight stay prior to early morning flight from Gatwick. Covered walkway to airport so no need to go outside in the morning. Found it difficult to understand the car park so perhaps this could be made clearer ( better signage) as I went round twice and ended up with two tickets! Also. At park was very very busy so a struggle to find a space. Although a long queue to check in all done quickly and efficiently. Had to leave car keys and we did ask if we could hand them in the next morning as wanted to drop overnight case in car. Also be aware no lift in car park so best dropping passengers and cases before parking up.at the drop off stop. same when you collect. On return easy to walk from airport under the walkway to the hotel- collect keys- left hub is with the cases and I fetched the car round. All in all would recommend this hotel- friendly staff. We stopped for something to eat before arriving at the hotel- the restaurant looked very very busy so just be aware of this.

Sofitel Gatwick is a very good hotel and has just undergone a significant, and welcome, refurbishment. First impressions were good but the new bedroom layout was clearly some arty-crafty designer's view with no regard to practicality and customer needs. An opportunity wasted.
