Hotel - Great and exactly what I hoped for. Booking via Accor - Overcharged and Zero Customer Service

Rotmm TripAdvisor review

I booked this hotel for my son and I relatively last minute. We have stayed in a number of Accor properties in Marseille over the years (we like to watch Olympique de Marseille play) and I have to say this is our favourite by far. The rooms do feel a little dated, but the quality of the fixtures and fittings were good, the bathroom had both a bath and a shower and the toilet was separate, which is great when you have a teenager who can spend 15 minutes in the toilet and you can get your shower done at the same time. Our room had a double and a single bed and they were both very comfortable. There was also a coffee machine, a kettle, a microwave oven (which we didn't use) and a decent size mini-fridge. There was only a single bottle of water in there, which I think is a little stingy for 2 or more people, but in January the water from the tap is cold anyway. One thing that we really appreciated, and this is something I haven't come across in any hotel room before, is the ability to divide the room with pull-out wicker dividers. My son is a teen and being able to give him that little bit of extra privacy when getting changed, ready for bed, etc is something he really loved. In terms of location, it's a little further from Vieux Port than we have stayed previously - about a 20 minute walk and quicker on bus/tram. However, there is a new shopping centre in the docks area that has all kinds of shops and restaurants. There is also "Le Dock" which is an area that has been converted into accommodation but also has some stores and restaurants, all of which are very cool. This is all just a 5 minute walk away. We also booked a room with a small balcony that overlooks the port. In January you're not going to spend a long time sitting out there, but I did find myself a couple of times over the 4 days relaxing with a cup of tea for an our or so and reading on that balcony. Housekeeping cleaned the room and replaced used towels every day. Breakfast was ok. Buffet style and not loads of choice, but enough that most people will find something they like. I was really pleased to see a station where you could soft/hard boil eggs. One thing that HUGELY annoyed me was being charged more than when I booked it. I made the reservation on the Accor website in the England the day before and when I checked in I was originally charged nearly £40 more. On showing my booking the receptionist amended the Euro amount but I still ended up paying £15 more then when I booked it the day before. This isn't the fault of the hotel but it is a wake up call that using something like Booking.com is a safer way to ensure you only pay what you are supposed to. Worse, there appears to be no way to actually contact Accor directly. Even on Twitter/X they don't respond to customers. Again, not the fault of this hotel but it does dent my trust in the Accor brand. Overall, my son and I really enjoyed it. The large room, the good facilities and especially the room divider mean that if I use Accor again I will be looking to book the same hotel on our next Marseille visit.

Good location with great transport links for the rest of Marseille. Good sized rooms.

My wife spent ten days here in unfortunate circumstances. I had been MediVac-ed of a cruise ship and taken to a Marseille hospital. She was struggling with language but the staff were so kind and sorted out what she needed to know, and how to get to the hospital on a daily basis etc. She had a large room with two beds and I was grateful for one of them the day I was discharged from hospital! She had to progressively extend the booking as my discharge from hospital kept being put back but the hotel management happily accommodated it. Very grateful for the compassion they showed my wife.
