Poor Reception Experience

Having used their advance book-in facility it was disappointing to find upon arrival that we had to wait 10 minutes to check-in. Then, for even more delay, the Receptionist couldn't find our booking. Eventually I was given to key cards which, upon arrival at our room, failed to work. Return to reception to find that the cards had not been activated apologies, just replacement, activated, cards. For a system which is advertised as removing all the time and hassle from checking-in, this level of service is rubbish. They will no doubt claim this was due to new staff of something similar but there were plenty of staff around (including the Manager) and, quite simply, nobody appeared interested in providing good service. As for the hotel facilities, room was quite small with only a small window and the in-house telephone system doesn't work. Won't be using again.

Simple overview .. Room okay, small Bathroom and toilet separate so you have to come out the tiniest darkest toilet in the world and walk around the corner and then into the bathroom to wash your hands. Not the end of the world if staying one night though. Bar however, is nice but had one member of staff on bar who was clearly stressed. Another member of staff came to ask him to do drinks to go with pizza but He got a) confused with request and b) then banged his head on the till and verbally complaining to everyone at the bar that he’d been on a 12 hour shift, just him. He worked really slowly and never looked at customers or engaged with them or said thank you so took over 15 minutes to get evening drinks to take to room and felt very awkward ( being kind ) so this is either a fault of the hotel for him being there or He is always like this I don’t know but I’m any event I had my ten year old Son with me, Dad and Son going to the bar to get drinks time and He spoilt that as my Son looked at him in amazement of how someone could be so rude. I said to couple next to me as we were looking at each other with raised eyebrows, crown plaza opposite next time then, more expensive but now seems way worth it. Needs fixing guys.

Having used the pre-check in facility which is advertised as simply pick up your key on arrival, it was disappointing to have to wait almost 10 minutes to be received by the receptionist who then couldn't locate my booking on the system. Eventually the receptionist, having found my booking, gave me a key only to find, upon arrival at my room (4th. Floor), that the key hadn't been properly activated and consequently, did not function. Having returned back to reception the key was simply 're-activated' and handed back to me without even the most basic apology.

The day Of my check out I forgot my laptop and a mobile phone on the bed afterwards I was having my breakfast in the hotel and when I realized I went to reception asking to take a look in the room for my stuff at the beginning they told me “we don’t find anything of your belongings “ after discussing for a while they only find my laptop but not my mobile phone and I would like to highlight that when I went to reception for announcing about my stuff loss my mobile phone was ringing after a couple of minutes was turned off

Please rest assured all feedback is taken seriously and I have personally investigated the matter you've shared and as discussed with my colleagues, the mentioned phone has not been found in the room, while the laptop was found and immediately handed to our housekeeping manager to log it and keep it in the safe which was later returned to you. We have extremely hard working team and it is saddening to see our guests leaving upset, however on this occasion I would like to suggest if not tried already to see the location through 'find my phone' or similar you may have used to help you locate it. My stay at Novotel London Excel was good, walking distance from the expo I was visiting, rooms are simple but with plenty of space, cleanliness of the room could have been slightly better, there were some hairs in the shower and some dirt under the bed. Beds are comfortable and I slept well, the street side can get a bit noisy during the day due to the daycare in front of the building, and airplanes flying over are quite noisy, but after 11 it is pretty much silent. Spacious bar with great drinks and friendly staff. The hotel was fully booked but didn’t feel overcrowded at all, also not at breakfast. The breakfast is simple, but with enough variety for everyone to get something they like, I would prefer a few more healthy options or some fish options such as tuna spread or salmon. The team at breakfast is really welcoming, always smiling and friendly, ready to help where needed. Especially Audrie made sure that all the guests had a great start of the day by talking to them and making sure they had everything they needed. I always appreciate it when team members take a brief moment to talk to you although they are super busy with a rush hour breakfast, that truly makes a change in how you start your day. Reception team was also very helpful, would highly recommend coming here if you want plenty of space and great service!
