ibis Dinant Centre 3 stars

We were on a motorcycle tour & had a few days here, bikes parked right outside 24-7 reception. The beers pretty good too :-)

Lovely view of the river, close to the town. Parked next to the hotel twice and in nearby car park once.

Convenient location & plenty of parking nearby. Reception staff very helpful. However, the hotel is tired and needs a complete refurb. Our room was something from the 1980's. Noisy aircon, dated bathroom & room.

If you are familiar with the Ibis brand, you know what to expect and the Ibis hotel in Dinant is typical of that brand, but with some bonuses. Firstly, Dinant is an interesting place to visit (though I suspect it might be a bit quiet in winter). Situated in a deep gorge, overlooked by an imposing citadel, and with a good selection of riverside bars and restaurants, it is well worth a visit. But with few accommodation options, the Ibis is popular and thus early booking is recommended. Indeed, there are many events over the summer weekends which makes it even more popular. The hotel is indeed well situated along the river with pleasing views over the river from the terrace outside the bar / dining room. Parking has been mentioned as problematic, and I guess over a festival weekend that is indeed true, but as our stay was from Sunday evening to Friday morning, we had no issues parking in the adjacent free park. There is also a larger park just over the road. Check-in was efficient, and I was soon on my way to the room, one floor below. Although advertised as a river view, it wasn't really practical to view the river as it was on the same level as the pedestrian promenade, so the net curtains were useful to keep nosey rubberneckers out and maintain a degree of privacy. If you really want a river view, ask for a room above the minus one level. The room itself was typical Ibis: large enough with a comfortable double bed; ample storage space; good aircon and heating controls and a clean bathroom with a good shower, lots of hot water. Ear plugs were provided, and I did wonder if this was because my room was directly below the breakfast room with associated noises coming from that's room service preparation commencing from 0500. A safe would have been nice to have too. Breakfast was from 06:30, an early start much appreciated due to nature of our work. Again, typically Ibis. Cereals; meats and cheese, yoghurt and fruit. Plus a waffle maker giving a hot option. Juices, water and hot beverages from dispensers. And at the end of the day, the bar was open! Located between reception and the dining room, the bar was a great spot to start the evening: some good beers, friendly staff and access to seating on the terrace overlooking the river. We ate out every evening as the wide choice of riverside restaurants were in walking distance, so can't really comment on evening dining options. In sum, well in keeping with the Ibis brand, albeit with an excellent location in an interesting town. Recommended, and work will probably bring us back again next year.
