It’s ok. Location is ok. Rooms are ok. A little depressing somehow. 2 ladies on reception. One was nice, one (blond) was just plain unfriendly. Makes you feel like you’re staying in the cheapest hotel downtown. Which you are, so fine.

Dismal experience

The only aspect about our stay that was enjoyable was the location, close to Albert Dock and its iconic attractions. The shower was nice and hot too, with good water pressure. In contrast to our previous hotel accomodation elsewhere in England, the staff were not welcoming and friendly. We found them surly and miserable looking, and we got the impression they hated their jobs. We decided to eat dinner at the hotel one night and the pizza I ordered was abysmal: soggy, doughy, undercooked and with barely any cheese whatsoever. It looked like it had thrown in a microwave for 30 seconds. Some people sitting nearby took a look at my pizza and decided to leave and eat elsewhere. My girlfriend said that her food had been very poor also. Additionally, the chairs had food crumbs on the upholstery and there was food on the floor near our table. When I approached one of the staff I was taken aback by her surly response. Instead of a response such as ‘I’m so sorry to hear about that, let’s fix this’, I got a sullen ‘what’s wrong with it’ and no effort whatsoever to rectify the situation. Eventually another staff member resolved our issue. In every single one of our encounters with staff we were made to feel like we were a burden and an inconvenience to them. We checked out early and when we asked if we could leave the car in the car park to take a last look around Albert Dock, we were very tersely told it would be £1 per extra hour that we stayed in the car park. It was not so much the information we had an issue with, more so the way it was delivered. As overseas visitors we had been eagerly looking forward to visiting Liverpool. Unfortunately our terrible experience at this hotel will probably be one of the strongest memories we have of the city. Hotel staff should carry out their jobs with pride, strive to embody hospitality and maybe even consider themselves ambassadors for their city. Unfortunately, the staff at Ibis Hotel in Albert Dock failed dismally in all these areas. I am happy to provide dates and specific information should you wish to contact me again.
