Accomodation for 3 gents on their annual footy trip. As usual rooms were more than satisfactory and that is why we have been staying ther efor over 10 years now. Friendly welcoming staff were happy to assist with anything.

Great location and clean rooms. The room of our travelling companions was not ready for many hours after the scheduled check-in time. Fortunately our room was ready and they could refresh there. Our room had limited powerpoints which was problematic, one behind the bed did not work, there were none anywhere near the desk and any kettle / laptop required pluggin into the bathroom.

Initial room had leaky bathroom - was quickly moved to another room. This room was exactly the same layout but bed had broken springs, was terribly uncomfortable. Another guest told me in the lift, they had to change rooms due to terrible bed also. TV remote only worked if you were within 30cm of TV. Kettle had the smallest cord and had to be put in front of the TV to reach power point. Not very safe. And the fridge froze the milk. Had to take my rubbish down to reception as they would not service room until day 3 of a 4 night stay. Wasn't great leaving hotel Sun morning trying to avoid stepping in the vomit in the street outside the entrance. Still there on return at 9am - ever heard of a bucket of hot water?

First time back travelling since pre-pandemic, and my first stay back at the Mercure since 2019. The place is great - the room was well presented and had everything required. My only comment would be the showering space, but as I am a larger person that’s on me to lose a bit of weight too. Included in my stay was breakfast each morning and the buffet was great with plenty of options. My choices were simple - bacon, eggs and sausages, but fruit, toast and many other options were available. Location wise the hotel is right next to Chinatown and just over a 5min walk to Federation Square / Flinders Station, and there are plenty of great bars, restaurants and stores nearby. Ultimately I always regard my hotel room as the place I store my items while I’m out and about and a place to rest my head at the end of the day. The Mercure offers both of those and at a great price. The staff are also very friendly and great to deal with. TL:DR: highly recommend staying here.

Staff were friendly and couteous. A special mention to one your front reception staff (Indian national) who I regretted not getting his name. He was so helpful when we booked a supposedly van or bigger car for my group of 6 pax. Perhaps it was my mistake for not mentioning the number of luggages but he was so quick to respond to our dilemma! He went out to let the cab driver know we can't take his cab due to the number of luggages we have. Then he promptly made a call to get a bigger car which was a comfortable ride all the way to the airport with all our luggages together. The cab driver that he booked for us was very good and we even had a snooze all the way to the airport

Central location & good feed in the morning. My room was beside the lift so I could hear it constantly going up and down & all the people traffic too. I could also hear the people in the rooms beside me talking so the walls are not sound proof. I would stay again but ask for a better room.

The overall experience was good. The check-in was smooth and welcoming while the check-out was delayed due to a lack of staff on the reception desk. The room was basic, more basic and smaller than expected. The bathroom was nice however the rest of the room was like a 3 star motel. While it did come with a fridge and kettle there was a lack of Power points and a toaster would have been an expected addition. The bed was comfortable but given it is Melbourne a quilt/doona would have been appreciated. The heating/Aircon was quite loud and not overly effective. It was surprising that News24 was not available on the TV and so the only news channel available was Sky News. The breakfast was well priced at the reduced rate of $20 and the addition, I can suggest is mushrooms otherwise it was a good hot and cold selection. The hotel is poorly signed.

Great place to stay central to everything right in the middle of Chinatown great restaurants to choose from .. staff couldn’t have been any more helpful Rooms are on small side but clean and tidy bathroom …good shower water pressure best ever had in a hotel we will definitely be be back there

Not as good as in the past

We have stayed many times. The last 2 times the beds have been very hard and even having a “topper” on ( which we had to ask for) didn’t help. The pillows also were awful. Also no room service, even though it was stated that we get room service every 3 days. We had to go to reception for toilet paper, clean towels and tea, coffee and milk. The bar has become pure gaming machines and the nice restaurant upstairs has gone. We probably won’t stay here again as we have become disappointed with it.

In regards to the servicing of the room only on the third day, this arrangement is only temporary and we are hoping that we would be back to the daily servicing sooner than later. Unfortunately Louden Kitchen is now only open for breakfast, however Eva's Bar and Restaurant, located on the adjacent Pullman Melbourne on Swanston (just above the Black Opal Tabaret) is open daily.
