Terrible hotel, to expensive

The arrival at the hotel was ok, well more than ok even. It's just a hotel-building, but the evening receptionist was very friendly and nice. Then up to the room, 2 adults with a small (carry-on) case and a backpack hardly fit in the "elevator". Well, no big deal so far. More important is the room, it was just a normal hotel room, maybe a bit small. But nothing shocking here. Bathroom/toilet on the left of the hallway, next the bed and on the end a small sink/mirror and desk. The bed.... O dear the bed. They good make a horror movie of it. 180x140cm I guess? very tiny and hard. Omg so hard. Un-sleepable-hard. And the pillows were more like handkerchiefs with covers. 2cm thick, like the mattress, so thin, so hard.. Previous mentioned, the bathroom and toilet weren't really rooms. More like airplane cabinets. You don't need a lot of space here, but they felt like a camper-van. All plastic, no lock, no mirror. We didn't use the shower, I didn't bring any slippers. Speaking of cleaning, the floor was dirty/stained and there were some strange spots on the clean towels. Not helping were the other guests, I think this adjusts to the type of hotel. Screaming, talking, running and bouncing on doors in the middle of the night. All in all, we paid €70,- for a 2 persons/1 night stay without breakfast and I feel that that's WAY overpriced. I've been in much cheaper hotels which were MUCH better. A positive note, a GREAT note to be honest, was the reception-staff on departure. This lady was one of the friendliest I've ever met in a hotel. She deserves a ton of credit here!

We had decided to say here we had been traveling for over 14,hours so warn out first of all we struggled to get in the car park as the barrier was not working properly so had to go to the resection and ask the Hotel resepsoinist was not a very welcoming it was she was not at all interested in use at all she never smiled once we got our key cards for the rooms which did not work so had to go back down stairs for them to be redone when we finally got in to our room it was clean very very small it is the smallest room we have ever stayed in with wood chip paper on the walls there where no tea or coffee and no kettle so I went down again and asked if we could have a kettle her reply was they did not have any so if you are like us want to make a cup of tea find some where else we would not recommend this hotel

I come often to the North of Essen and usually use Airbnb, but all my usual places were not available, so I decided to stay at the Ibis Budget Nord. Never again. I am not spoiled and don't need much, but for the service and amenities offered the price is too much. I booked for four days. I checked in at the computer without a problem (although later I saw that the computer froze). However, the computer check-in is only good for the first night (which I overlooked, my mistake). The next morning the manager at the reception did not remind me of that issue and I wasn't able to get into the hotel that night. Had to sleep in the car! However, that didn't keep them from charging that night to my credit card. I asked them why they couldn't call me or send an email, the answer was that that kind of service is not included in the service of a ` star hotel (but charging the card is easy, so that is included). Also, after I came back the first night, the door to my room was open and the manager blamed me, but I was sure that I closed it and checked that it was closed (I first asked to change to code for the door, which they cant do, but got a new room. But the manager failed to inform me of the issue with the payment). The room is clean, but the shower and toilet reminded me of those in an RV. The sink was across the room from the toilet, so not very practical and there was no trash bin next to the toilet. The entry area of the hotel and the hallways smelled of cigarette smoke. Not very pleasant.

It was a nice, clean (with the exception of the stains on the carpet- still I do not understand why it has to be a carpet in hotels rooms and other public places!) and recently renovated accommodation. However the shower /toilet unit and the apart wash basin in the room made it was not very convenient and practical especially if you are restricted in movement. The staff was friendly, helpful and efficient.

We used this as an overnight stay while travelling to Poland. I chose it as it was one of the cheaper options, had free parking and is a common 'brand'. It does the job. Rooms are functional, clean, have a shower and toilet. Who cares if the shower is like a caravan...... if you want a fancy shower go and stay at the expensive Ibis! Don't book this place if you want the services of something double the price. Stop here if you need a room, bed and a shower. It felt safe and was quiet, despite being full. The staff were friendly, spoke enough English to get us booked in, and the breakfast was acceptable.
