Ibis Budget - Maybe a bit too “budget”? O

Okay this is the thing: We all know that if we go for the “budget”-segment of a supplier- or hotel-chain, that we shouldn’t set the bar too high. But I found Ibis Budget Hotel in Grand Synthe very basic and perhaps a bit “too practical” when it comes to room-outfit. A bit more “flair” and a bit more “comfort” is desired.

The hotel was fine but your needy demands for my time to complete this useless survey have ruined the entire experience. if you send me another email i will never use ibis again and i will ask the hotel chain to be removed from my company list.

Well located for road trip

A bit old and tired now and in need of a refurb. We've stayed in nicer Ibis Budget hotels nearby. The doors were loud and the receptionist was on the phone loudly for a long time at bedtime and then seemed to go around slamming and locking every door in the building. Unlike other Ibis hotels there was no gluten free bread option in the morning, so the limited offering was a disappointment and not great value. Convenient location though, and good parking as always where you feel that your vehicle is secure overnight.

Pleasant stay

Reception was very helpful and given a well received coffee on arrival (and kids some fruit juice!). The hotel was to easy to find (just off motorway) and also easy to get to the ferry. Clean although Hotel is a little dated but not unexpected at this price point.

Very Basic and over priced, check in was a nightmare

Ibis budget is basic, we knew that, but after staying here I felt it was still overpriced for what we got. A fairer price would have been around 30 EUR. It was clean, and minimal, but without any staff after hours was difficult to navigate check-in and did not feel very secure. Check-in was a disaster, we were checking in late which means we needed to use the kiosk. The software must have been written in the early 2000s, it looked like it was running on Windows ME. It crashed, and we couldn't get hold of anyone to help us. Thankfully I know a bit about computers and enough french to navigate the menus popping up to get it to restart the kiosk application. This was a very poor experience. I also wonder just how secure a device like that was. Overall, our experience with this hotel was not good and I would not recommend this to anyone. There are better options for the same price. We will not be staying there again.
